  • I recently rewatched an anime I've loved for years: The Rose of Versailles (or 'Lady Oscar'). I'm so in love with Marie Antoinette, she was so misunderstood and alone. She had a pure heart and she didn't deserve all the sufferings she had to endure. I obviously love the historical character too, I've read a lot of books about her, I particularly loved Juliet Grey's trilogy and Antonia Frasers's biography!
This is a very simple video, I'd like to make other ones so they'll probably be out soon. For the moment, I hope you enjoy this one!

This video is amazing! I've always loved Marie Antoinette and I hate how most people (who obviously didn't study her in detail) often have a completely distorted idea of her. For example, she never said 'Let them eat cake' and she certainly didn't lead France to bankrupt, France was in a very bad economic condition long before M.A. arrived there and she spent a lot less than the pervious kings (I'm referring to Louis XIV and Louis XV) and their lovers. When the poor girl arrived in France she was already hated because of her nationality (Austria was the historical enemy of France) and then she couldn't get pregnant because her husband wouldn't consume their marriage and that caused her a lot of suffering, since everybody would blame it on her. When she became queen she had no political power whatsover and she didn't care much about politics in general. Her husband's choice to fight with the American rebels against the English was what truly had an impact on the already desperate French economic situation. Marie Antoinette became a scapegoat but she was a good person, a sensitive woman and a lovely mother to her children. I suggest that everyone read her last letter, it makes you understand how tender she was. Also, her last note to her children is heartbreaking
"This 16th of October, 4:30 in the morning.
My God, have mercy on me!
My eyes have no more tears
to weep for you my poor
    children; farewell, farewell!
    Marie Antoinette."

I am reading Stefan Zweig’s biography and I definitely saw the inspiration from it in “The Rose Of Versailles” !! Awesome video, Fersen and Marie-Antoinette formed a beautiful and tragic couple ✨🥺

Thank you♥️ Marie Antoinette and Fersen are the best couple in the anime, their story is so romantic (however, I don't believe they ever had a relationship in real life).. I liked Zweig's biography, even though it is a bit harsh, it's so well written that it is as enjoyable as a novel. If you haven't read them, I would advise you to read
"Marie Antoinette - The Journey" by Antonia Fraser, a historical biography, and Juliet Grey's trilogy. I swear even though the latter is a novel it is so historically accurate that it is better than many other biographies, as it doesn't neglect anything. The author read something like 20 biographies about the Queen before writing her books, and then put all her knowledge into her three books, which are a perfect and detailed combination of everything there is to know about MA. It's written from the Queen's point of view and it is extremely touching.♥️
