    - Buy the game.
    - Buy the expansions.
    - Pay monthly fee.
    - And still pay for Store items.
Not just Blizzard, many major gaming companies are trying to normalize this.
They are trying to benefit from the new generations' unawareness of how games and other services worked previously, and how they were sold *(Buy it = "Own" it!),* and making it seem like it was like this all along *(Pay for it = Never own it, just Rent it! / Pay more = Buy in game stuff / Pay even more = get special treatment).*
Larian's Swen made it clear with Baldur's Gate III that it wasn't always so, and it shouldn't be so either.. But doubt Swen's voice alone will be enough to educate the masses, especially when it comes to blind consumerism..

@Pb-bs3ii Well personally I don't spend any money on microtransactions in any of those games but yeah I'd rather give a developer of a free to play game $5 or $10 here or there to support the development of a game I like. That's what you do with a subscription every month in WoW. You pay that sub so they make money and use that money to develop the game. WoW being filled with microtransactions and fomo on top of a subscription is just really dumb and is doing a diservice to the player base. Used to a developer would pick one of two models. Subscription based with no microtransactions or Free to Play with microtransactions. Now we have subscription based with fomo microtransactionsons top. You don't see a problem with that? Players deserve better and we had better past.

I quickly found that as a f2p I can only hope to get every third or fourth character with those drop rates. And I have to spend hundreds of dollars monthly if I want them all. And the really bad thing is that in Arknights for example a full potency (when you get it several times and merge copies) character is like 15% stronger than base. In Genshin and Star rail a base without weapon/artifact is like 70% weaker than all potency. So even if I spend those hundreds of dollars - what I get is trash compared to if I spend thousands.
At which point I'm not interested. It's so discouraging that I'd rather not play at all. It's just P2W in the pure form. And before someone says - I KNOW that all end game content is so easy that you can beat it on a free account. But here's the thing - winning in that game is not about finishing story or beating last boss. Winning in Genshin is about having a full collection.

2:05 Ye and games like GW2 exclusively finance themselves via cosmetics like that, not a subscription model in this day & age... ( which btw look 100x better than any custom stuff Blizzard has released yet lmao )

There should be an achievement for looking at each store item.

I'm so sick of people complaining about microtransactions when they're the morons who keep buying them. The companies aren't at fault, gamers are.

Hot take: this is no different from what other game publishers do. I mean look at Nintendo, they released a limited edition game. (Which I’d argue is worse than a $20 cosmetic)

And let's all bare in mind, this isn't some F2P game either, this is a buy and then sub to game, this is absolute insanity that people are still giving money to them.

I get having a few $5 items in a in game store to help with production costs for small companies, but big companies having WAY TOO MANY $20 purchases in unbelievable, and for a game as old as WOW. That’s greed. Plain and simple.

The good thing about the store in FF14, is that almost all of it was available in-game first.

I will say that these cosmetic items that "leave the store indefinitely" eventually end up on the trading post for tendies. You can buy it for money to have it earlier or you can just wait to get it on the trading post.

Quick retail wow fix: Set timers on all items in wow store, reduce all to $1 for pets $2 for mounts, and they all expire in 12 weeks.
Then when removed never add again.

Tbh in guild wars 2 you can get any cosmetic with ingame gold conversion to gems, only the expansions are only with money.

Most of the store things prey upon impulse buyers. If it’s temporary it’ll either end up in the trading post or as a twitch or prime drop.

I remember The Old Republic MMO being stuffed with 50-60$ lightaber skins and people still bought those up like crazy. And then when they put them on a "deal" for 30$ people are like oh thank you what a bargain!!

This brings me back to when my sis & Dad first got vanilla, and my Dad was up in arms about blizzard "taking two steaks" as he put it. Or double dipping, to him you either charged up front for the game license, or charge a subscription, but not both. RIP Dad, you thankfully don't have to witness blizz getting even grubbier.

Rather see them make store items be part of an in game event or from a vender over being part of the shop. Could make them exclusive to the black market auction house as a gold sink. Maybe even tie them to the 6 month sub as a bonus like they have done for a while with select items.

This wouldn't be a problem if the game was free and many expansions were free then sell all the cosmetics and armor you want. But for WoW you have to pay MONTHLY and buy expansions. I've never subscribed to a game in my life I got off of console because I wasn't about to pay monthly just to play an online game.

Man i bet if Blizzard added a scuffed 5.000$ transmog and then had a temporary sale for 1250$ people would buy it... these people can no longer perceive value.

Guild wars 2 does that every few weeks they make some things available and others leave the store but it allways comes back sometime after. But its mostly cosmetics anyway so most people dont care but for those that convert hard earned ingame gold to gems its probably a bit unfair sometimes

No no. Blizzard/King was the OG for this stuff. Candy crush was how a lot of this started. Also there was that 1 in game WoW pet that made more money than all of starcraft 2 at the time. I remember hearing an interview with someone at Epic talking about how excited he was to implement this new micro transaction model into their games and how Blizz is paving the way... Probably over a decade ago now by this point.

Its like that guy who worked at Blizzard said, one mount skin earned more money than SC2 did in total, imagine how soul destroying that is as a dev.
