Sire are doing loads for us lefthanded players. Been looking out for a decent J style affordable guitar for a while, and you've either got a choice of a Harley Benton or a Fender American Pro for just short of 2k. Nice that theres something middle of the road for us lefties, after Fender has failed us for so long!
Great intro Captain, and you too Pete 😊. I’ve been watching The Captains Privates lessons with Justin lately from several years ago and Lee you have come so far, it’s fantastic to see how you’ve improved, maybe there’s hope for me yet!
Well after watching this video, I pulled the plug and and now I'm anxiously awaiting my new T7TV in Sunburst here in the states from Sweetwater. Thanks fellas !!
Great to point out which models are available left handed! Always naff to watch a video, enjoy the vibes of a guitar only to go look and find out they’re r/h only
I love Sire guitars and currently own three guitars and a bass from that brand. I would have loved to buy them from Andertons, but since I live in France, the costs made a big difference. Let's break it down: the conversion between pounds and euros, along with taxes and shipping, adds up. For example, the new T7 TV is priced at €589 in France (about £496) with free shipping. If I were to purchase it from Andertons, it would cost £529 (€629), plus shipping and import duties/taxes. In 2022, I bought three Tone City pedals from Andertons, including the amazing Durple, for £87 plus £13 shipping and €37 in import taxes, bringing the total to £131 (€155). Except for the Durple (which is exclusive to Andertons), I could have paid just €39 per pedal with free shipping in France. I would love to buy more from Andertons because of the incredible value you bring with your RUclips channel and other social media content. However, I simply can’t justify paying 20-30% more than I would in France. So, my question is: When will you open an Andertons shop in Europe? Cheers from across the Channel
Squier is a little more adventurous with some of their paranormal and baritone offerings. Also wider offering of offset guitars. With that being said I like the Sire guitars.
I like Sire: I have a Sire Jazz bass, but I think they could have pushed the boat out a bit more with this Jazzmaster to include all the switching options of the original. As it is, it's no different to a Harley Benton, and for a little more money they could differentiate themselves from HB.
And tbh the Strat style trem might be a bit easier to deal with. Have a Jaguar with the traditional Fender offset trem, and it doesn’t stay in tune quite as well as a regular Strat style. Of course, it sounds different due to the sympathetic vibration of the strings behind the bridge.
Bought the creme one at a discount from Sweetwater. Got 80 bucks off so 320 for any otherwise open box guitar. Quality is a clear step above anything I've tried or owned at the price point, so Squier, G&L, Epiphon, and Harley Benton. Neck feels fantastic, stock pickups are perfectly fine, trem doesn't pull out of tone. Not sure what else I could add other than I would not buy a Fender if I wanted a S or T style guitar with finer appointments. I'm not sure I would opt for the J5 vs. the J3, not sure I see the value proposition but the J3 is probably the best quality to price guitar I've got out of a collection of a dozen. Actually I think the only thing I'd like to have to slotter tuners. Locking tuners seems to be bulky and heavier, so it's just preference in that regard but the stock ones are perfectly fine.
They look like great guitars. I’d been waiting for the J5 to finally be released but will probably wait awhile since I just got the Squier Paranormal Offset Telecaster SJ.
I have the P5R 5 string bass and it's amazing - pre-ordered the new "acoustic" one. Can't wait for that to show up. Their guitars are fantastic, especially for a cost that brings all of the features at a price Fender can't come close to touching. The old Mexi and Japanese lines were at least a middle of the road option in the past, but the Player series is too expensive for what you get, and the Pro series is astronomical. When companies are dropping guitars with roasted maple, ebony, stainless frets, and quality finishes it's just harder and harder to justify spending more than $500 on a guitar or bass.
Lee's intro lead was killer! Remember Lee, as Chet Atkins said, "All mistakes are intentional." These look pretty cool. Does anyone know if that Goeldo Jazzmaster bridge can lock like an "F" style bridge can?
I can't deny that the colour of the J5 that Lee was playing is gorgeous, but I don't see it on the website. (Champagne Gold Metallic) Once again, the GAS is real! I agree with you about the reveal binding on the T7TM. I think a cream binding would look nicer, but it still looks pretty good. I suspect having a different process just for that guitar wouldn't be cost effective. It's a pity the T7TV isn't available in See Through Red. I'm not sold on the P90s in that guitar. The neck pickup sounded a little too dark for my liking. P.S. The reveal binding looks great with the See Through Red. Did I mention the See Through Red would be nice on the T7TV?
According to Sweetwater they are selling the J-5’s for $599 so you guys are lucky if you can get them for $499😂 I wonder if you could buy a J-3 and just buy some locking tuners and have a nice guitar under the $599 price with a bit of an upgrade? Love your channel I have watched so many of your videos over the years even if what you were showing was out of my price range I like you’re bantering and antics😂😂 Craig
Gotoh makes staggered locking tuners the proper size for those also. The strat is the same way. I forget the papt number. I have it written down somewhere around here because I was going to buy an S-3 and toss them on it. Direct replacements. I spent 3 hrs finding them and now I can't find my note.
That Rose Gold T7TM would look even better with a tortoiseshell binding!! The comments in the video about the P90's being "super phat" made we wish that Andertons had a sub channel where one of your techs dissected the guitars, similar to Play & Trade or Trogly et al....
Hey guys! I'm about to buy my first guitar and would like to know if the J3 sounds better than the Squier version of Jazzmaster and Jaguar. Would be really cool if you maybe could help me. Anyway I wish both of you a happy new year ✌️
Yes! Ever since I saw the announcement for the J series a couple months ago, I've been waiting for the reviews to go out. That J5 seems to blow everything else out of the water specs wise for a J type at this price point. Definitely seems to beat anything priced $1000 or less in Fender's range
I love Sire guitars! I own both the S3 and the J3. Love the mahogany/rosewood combo these days. The resonance is great on both models and the mids come out a bit more in comparison with alder/maple. They have more 'acoustic' sweetness/roundness to them. Very smooth, but very balanced as well, which is great through a vintage, bright and cleaner amp like a Fender Bassman. The J3 I own is pretty light weight for mahogany and it plays like a dream, just like the Strat. Amazing guitars. Personally in this video I also prefer the S3 above the S5 tonally. The S3 sounds warmer and fuller to me, but definitely just bright enough for me. The S5 is too bright for me these days. The same if I compare the S3 with the S5. Maybe my taste has changed, but I go for mahogany these days above alder/maple. Both great, but both definately different.
Love the J5 but been really put off buying one after seeing the low E keeping slipping off the saddle in another RUclips video. Any owners have the same issue?
I like these. Just a point on the lack of string trees. I have a Sire S3(which I think is the best bargain out there) and that doesn't have string trees either, nor does it have staggered tuners. Shouldn't work but somehow it does.
I think Fender (and Gibson) should be very worried these days, there are some incredible alternatives, at all price points, and that includes Squier and Epiphone. Hard to justify spending the big bucks on the big names..
i hope they start experimenting with different headstock designs in the coming generations. i know it's a superficial thing and it's not THAT bad but man. it's so odd aesthetically
I like how jazzmaster style sound, but I cannot get past the design, offsets like that just make my eyes itch. Which is why there is variety out there after all!
It sounds fairly similar. It's missing some of the tone and vibrations that come from the original bridge not being there but it's pretty close. Buying a new set of JM pickups would get you pretty much there if you don't like the stock pups
I´ve tried one T7TV it resonates really nice and it´s spotless. Almost brought one home... the only downside are the pups imo, which are ceramic made, and the fretboard isnt that confortable either, they come with .010 but it feels that you are playing .011.
And they have some instruments over 1k USD now that are still really well priced for what you get. I really want to try one of those more expensive side by side with a Fender offering
I wonder way they don't make a normal T7 with a maple neck like that. The guitars are very good, but I really don't like how their roasted maple necks look. Too dark and it doesn't match the body colors. The neck on the T7TV looks fantastic instead!
Completely agree. The fretboard not matching the colors well is why I haven't got one yet. Now that they have rosewood, I'm pleased, but standard maple is always good too
A rhythm circuit and I'd end my JM search with Sire. But as it is, I'd have to grab a Japanese or Vintera II to get a really good JM with all the trimmings ;-;
Every time there’s “new” models from Sire it just means all of the other models have gone up in price by £100 or £200 !!! lol 😂 some of the prices have tripled in the last couple of years 😖
They have? I remember the S7 being about $650 USD a few years ago and many of the basses being about the same price. Maybe that was a little further back than I remember looking into the brand back in 2021/2 or so.
One thing i have found is that there are all these companies that offer higher specs for cheaper money and try and encourage you to not buy what you actually want, which in this case is a Fender. My experience is that you should buy the real thing because you will regret it if you don't.
But they're offering higher specs and good quality at a much lower price, what's the money for the Fender spent for? The name on the headstock? The only thing this is missing is the rhythm circuit and the exact bridge JMs usually have. You'd have to get a Vintera or Japanese Fender at around $4-500 USD more
@grawman67 it's not just the name on the headstock, although that also adds a bit. You've got the choice of buying a guitar from a company that has been making guitars for 70 years, thousands of them every year. Thinking about the details, getting the best people. People that have been thinking day in day out about how to make guitars. Your other choice is an individual who knows a bit about guitars, contacting a factory in China telling them about what they want to be made. Ok, maybe because you don't really have experienced people and you can't really see if corners are being cut in the making, you can get a bone nut instead of a synthetic one for the same price. I mean to me I know which one I prefer, but either way it's not just about the name on the headstock. The name on the headstock also tells you who built the guitar and that is what is relevant.
This may be personal taste and probably shouldn’t matter, but I think a person’s actual signature on the headstock is super tacky. It makes it look like a line of men’s cologne. I wish they’d just gone with the Sire logo. It’s seriously the biggest reservation I have about pulling the trigger on these. If I did, I’d probably sand it off.
Those Gumby headstocks always really turn me off. The Sire T7 Telecaster is probably the best value Telecaster you can buy for what you get, but resale on them is lousy and it's got that horrible headstock.
Pete is right, the J3 is more appealing than J5 as it has block saddles and a 2 point trem...where as the J5 has clones of the vintage Jazzmaster saddles/bridge which are very problematic. Will take the J3 all day, with the $200 savings between the two just upgrade the pups if not happy.
Jazzmaster bridges work very well when set up properly. They just require the neck to be shimmed. That's really all. Slightly heavier gauge strings also help.
@grawman67 the point is you don't have to do all that to an even decent 2 point trem system and the J3 is cheaper...not only that but the J5 has the old style saddles which cause strings to pop off very easy. I have several regular Jazzmasters and love them. The best one I have is the J Mascis Squire, the TOM bridge on it was far more superior. Though I did swap it for a roller bridge. It's incrediblely stable. All the 2 point trem guitars I have needed nothing...well...just an anchor screw tweak in or out once I set the action
@@SB-ht6kf Oh, I know what the point is. I was just saying that it doesn't take much to set up. Even a two point trem takes a little set up as well. It wasn't said to be rude, friend
@@grawman67 oh no, didn't think you were being rude. I have just had bunch of weird issues with JM trems. I'm a tech for a few bands so on tours they are really finicky. If you like them, then play the hell out of them! There's always worse like Gibson Maestro Vibrolas 🤪

That blue J is pretty sweet, love the inlays on the Rosewood.

I'd guess it probably has something to do with the way the neck pocket is angled. It may be cut to act as somewhat of a natural shim
