    Back when I was teaching, I wish I'd thought of a couple of your own ways of communicating these ideas. You're blessed with easy going and clear communication skills.🥰😊
    I think that after all those years I learned what mattered most was how I said or showed something to a student. It was the exact same later in life when I was teaching cabinet-making too, not just music.

    I’m lying in bed humming my way through stacked 3rds - totally normal behaviour. Then this pops up in my recommendations. 👍

    Thank you Dave for explaining this topic; would you do one on constructing blues chords for improvisations over them…(how to put something exotic together in terms of the chords and melodies over them…) It might take more than one session… I hope It is making sense what I asked you to teach us…⚡️🎸🔋

    Outstanding lesson. Thanks for posting. Once chords get into 7th and beyond they start sounding expensive to me :)

    I’m saving this lesson for deeper study! I guess to do chord progressions you need to know how these chords fit into keys? E major falls into E but it also fits in any key where the E is I IV or V (for example)?

    This is great. MY only issue is not knowing what to do with 7's, 6's, and 9'ss. I guess I could just play different chord progressions but then I start overthinking things and get lost. Then I just go back to playing whatever sounds cool.

    Ron Jarzombek has always used some really off the wall dissonant sounding chords to go with that frenetic style of his 🎸

      @@LateNightLessons Your "foundations" are anything but foundations let alone explanations or.... (cue the spooky arpeggio played on a sitar) ....guru "secrets.. It's obvious that you've had a limited background in formal harmony or from where harmonic axioms, terminology, and conventions arise.
      Your half-*rsed explanations and assumptions as to what your watchers might or might not already know will mostly serve to confuse learners as much as enlighten them. Because of that, I can safely assume that you have had limited experience in successful teaching.

      Everyone else understood him just fine. As someone who also taught guitar for over 3 decades, it was Davids communication skill in particular that I was just complimenting him on before I saw this.
      Having poor listening skills does not equate to someone else having poor communication skills. People should at least have enough courage to take responsibility for their own short-comings, not project them onto others.🙂

    • @rjlchristie
      @rjlchristie 3 месяца назад

      @@aylbdrmadison1051 Oddly, a reply of mine providing further reasons why I found the explanations deficient appears to have been deleted.
      Btw I (too) have decades (well over four) of full time music teaching experience, a university major in guitar performance, so it's remiss of you to project poor listening skills on anybody.

      @@LateNightLessonsno need to respond to asshats. Maybe he’ll get it one day. Then he will come back and thank you profusely… or not 😝 Again, killer explanation! Take that formula up and down the neck chromatically, and you have a wealth of chords to play with.✊🏾👍🏾💯🫡
