I actually liked Adelina and thought Violetta was kind of selfish hiding her powers but she made up for it in the end. Enzo...that was just horrific. *my heart*

I actually loved all of the dark parts in the story, especially when Adelina and Enzo were training for the first time and Adelina created the wings. THAT WAS BOSS

A lot of people complain about the Adelina's darkness or overall darkness of the story. Not me. As cheesy as it absolutely sounds, there are others like me who can relate and enjoy the darkness, fear, hatred and all.

That last conversation between Adelina and Rafaelle infuriated me and I really hated the daggers that time.

I love your opinion on the book, but I have to disagree with you on the protagonist because I think the fact that she is an antihero makes the book that much better because we always see from the good guys point of view and never anything else so it's good that she is branching off with this book(Marie lue)

I think the antihero part of Adelina's character is exactly what makes this book so intriguing. It's something new. Adelina unlike a mainstream hero like, say, Harry Potter, she has flaws.
Sidenote: heros usually get a good ending, rapping up all the problems and whatnot, but considering that Adelina is the antihero, I'm left wondering if Adelina will get her way in the end or if the more heroic characters will get their ideal ending... hmm............

My favorite scene is when she gets shocked by Raffaele in a lesson with him and starts remembering her life and hears her fathers words---"I know who you really are. Who will ever want you, Adelina?" and she gets angry and thinks "Everyone. They will cower at my feet, and I will make them bleed." I was like DAMN. I saw her darkness in its entirety right then.

I actually thought Adelina would have done well as Queen rather than Enzo as King. Throughout the book she was the only Dagger who actually cared enough about the Malfetto being slaughtered in the streets. And yet, the other Daggers were very flippant about it, and to some degree, were even glad for the distraction.
I think the reason I liked Adelina was because, in the end, she accepted who she was and she didn't pretend to be someone else to fit in.
The entire Dagger Society were manipulative, hypocrites, and only allowed her to join because they needed her ability. They told her, if she outwore her use, they'd kill her because she knew too much. And it had been done before. Which is why she didn't tell them about Teren. She had seen first hand that The Daggers didn't care for anyone who wasn't useful to their cause. And I have no doubt they would have left Violetta to rot since we had no prior knowledge that she was an Elite.
As for her ability she has the power to manipulate the threads of reality and influence them with illusions that she creates. There is a section were Raf was teaching her about the threads and how to use them.
I'm actually rooting for her because I think she has what it takes to be a great leader. If The Daggers had come into power I don't think there would be much of a difference. At least Adelina and Violetta have the will and strive to change their world.

    • @BT5PavedTheWay
      @BT5PavedTheWay 9 лет назад +23

I think people are still trying to fit everyone into this mould of good and evil. There are so many book talks depicting the former King, The Queen and Teren as evil, and The Elites as 'supposedly' the good guys.
The truth is everyone is fighting for their own causes and their survival. And in my opinion, Teren's actions were just as justifiable as Enzo's--even if I didn't like them or him.
I think what people are failing to grasp is that it's not so much about who is good over who is evil? And more so, _who is the lesser of two evils?_
Besides, I didn't feel like Enzo wanted to be King because he wanted to change the world and the ruling class system where Malfetto were seen as lower than dirt. It felt like he wanted to be King simply because he was dethroned and he felt like it was his right to be the ruler.

    • @Lexxie-lg4mh
      @Lexxie-lg4mh 9 лет назад +1

Anthony Maurangi I agree with you. I saw Teren's actions were justifiable cause we saw the way he thinks.
I also like Maeve but...I felt like she was striving for power as well?
Correct me if I'm wrong but I felt she was going to use Enzo as a pawn to take over and had The Windwalker (I forgot her real name) become a spy overseas even though she was banish.
I think we need to see which side to pick on in the next book or so just to see what everyone is really capable of.
We saw Teren's Power and what his plan is. Now I want to see Maeve's, the Daggers' new plan, and Adelina's Group is going to do.

  • @LeaderColden

i think the best way to describe Adelina's abilities is senses: Sight, Smell, Taste, Touch and Hearing. She has the ability to deceive someone's senses. At first she can only fool Sight with illusions, but with practice she can fool the other senses. Dante's dumbass unlocked her ability to affect 'Touch' which, as we read, can kill someone if its used on them long enough.
The Human body doesn't do fake. If it feels like its in pain. ITS IN PAIN!!

When i read the scene Enzo died, i was like " NO HE DIDN'T DIE, IT WAS ALL AN ACT. HE COULDN'T HAVE DIED. NO. NO. HE'LL COME BACK TO LIFE LATER." the entire time. I thought he's gonna be back at the end of the book, but he didn't. But yeah, i have the same thought of Maeve bringing back Enzo from the dead in the next book, it makes me feel a lot better when you talked about that. IF HE DOESN'T COME BACK LATER, I'M GONNA BE FREAKIN MADDDDD.
    Anyway i loveeeeed this book

I actually believed that the Daggers would've killed Adelina if she confessed early on. Maybe not if she confessed earlier than she actually did, but Enzo and the rest, who barely trusted her, would've considered her a liability. Which is what I think is really interesting about the entire series, since Adelina never trusted anyone, and no one really trusted her either.

You shouldve read the blurbs because then you wouldve known Adelina's story is the villain's origin story. And Rafaell originally was the protagonist hero so it's funny you like him it shows your attracted to the typical hero

    • @polandbananasBOOKS
      @polandbananasBOOKS  9 лет назад +49

the Rafaellle from this book is def not your typical hero though, or else he would have been like LETS GIVE ADELINA A SHOT EVERYONE DESERVES A CHANCE. but he all: you should kill her. i don't think any of these characters can represent the original typical hero that Marie wrote, when she rewrote the book everyone changed a bit. =)

I'm watching this right after I finished the rose society and laughing bc I know what happens. Btw, I hated violetta and I LOVED Adelina's character. I actually like this more than legend, the symbolism and theme is soooo good in this trilogy when you think about it in depth and what it says about the real world. Compare it to Animal Farm (one of Marie's favorite books) and it'll help to understand what she was going for. Sure this does have some cleshes but it's definitely way different from any YA book I've read, which was very refreshing. And pay attention to the amazing character development throughout the books, you'll see why it's important at the end of the second one.

It really was stupid that she didn't tell her ELITE friends about Teren's ultimatum thing, it really was. But in a way, it was necessary because Marie Lu really had convince the readers how much poisoned her heart was already with all that hatred instilled inside her.

I actually liked Adelina from the beginning like I just understood how she felt like... She always focused on her father's hatred towards her that making her forget about her sister... And my heart broke when Enzo died, I even made myself believe that Mauve's brother was actually Enzo at some point. I just don't want Enzo to die just like that, at the hands of effin Adelina??

Favorite part: When Adelina goes to save her sister Teren tries to divulge information from her and SHE STAYS SILENT! Ah! I felt every ounce of disturbance lift and a glimmer of hope for her redemption emerge. But then she gets that bloody chest wound and it all goes to hell on the back of a balira. All feelings neutralized, "it's all grey area" like you said. To be honest I wanted this to be a stand alone book, have closure and not turn into a trilogy that I had to wait for. I look forward to some redemption though. Woot, woot Maeve!

Awesome video! I want to talk about my thoughts on the Young Elites.
I understand Adelina on a personal level. She has been abused and least favored in her family. I get her. She has been hurt countless of times by her father to the point where she sees her sister is superior then her, even though she loves her. I assume that she left her sister because she thought she would be better without her, that people would take care of the perfect sister.
As for the Daggers, they were manipulative. They do what they had to do in order to kill the royal family, even sacrifice other Young Elites even other malfesttos (sp?)
For Adelina, she has trust issues. With her father being her demon and the only source of love who was suppose to support her growing up, her trust is faulty. She trusted the Daggers and, even though Enzo trusted her on some level, the others did not. I kinda thought Raffaele would help Adelina, but he distrusted her from the very beginning. Adelina got attached to Raffaele and to hear his very fist thoughts about her, the one he stood by with til the end, crushed her. Thinking her friend didn't really like Adelina or trust his life around her.
Enzo I felt was a little bit to blame as well. He pushed her to get stronger to embrace her fear, her darkness. He said the Daggers really needed that power. And train her to embrace and feed it, yet he should of taught her to connect her power to love instead of fear.
Adelina felt no love and the one time she trusted someone, they didn't feel the same back. If I didn't have my friends I would have probably be in a worst place or dead like Adelina would be (not the dead part).
Like Adelina I feel...something dark in me too. I hear my father telling me that I'm no good or useless, too fat. And it chips away at you. I trust my friends completely and they have my love. But I rarely trust anyone else afraid I might hurt someone or they will see me like my father sees me.
But I am so happy she has her sister to love. I felt a ray of hope for her and I do hope she feels better.
Fun fact: I think Adelina can make people feel so much pain that they can die. It is like the mind over matter. It kinda is connected like how people have nightmares and they wake up with a jolt and the heart is racing. She might pull on the pain near the heart for example and the person feels the pain so much the brain can cause the damage to the heart and can cause cardiac arrest.

I think a lot of the reason I loved Adelina was because I could really relate to her... In my opinion The Young Elites blew The Legends out of the water. It was that great and addicting through out the entire trilogy and I came here right after reading the third book. I personally loved it a lot more with an anti-hero as a main character. Personally loved Adelina. She has been through so much and yet embraces herself in the darkest way possible wich to me is very addicting. Hated Violetta and Rafaelle.

I honestly don't know why no one else saw this... But I rly like hardcore ship Enzo and Raffaele.
Christine, you said you didn't understand why Enzo challenged him to a duel when that could barely by time, but I distinctly remember when he first comes after Teren calls him out, his voice is 'Cold with fury.' Furious that a possible love interest is gonna die? Maybe.
But the big thing that started me shipping them together was in the beginning, when Enzo got hardcore defensive when Rafaele is hurt by that one Count dude or whatever. After that, I turned way bias. xD
And the whole thing about Adelina's 'romance' with him... I don't think they ever rly had anything, tbh. I was absolutely crushed when Enzo died, and the fact that she played such a huge part in killing him ruined their 'love' for me.
Plus… Let's just talk about that one part at the end, the last thing Raffaele says to her... "'Adelina,' he says, turning. The look in his eyes threatens to break me. 'I love him too.'"

Am I the only one who actually loved the evil in this book?
I have been waiting SO SO SO SO SO long for a book where evil is actually thought about deeply instead of 'oh she/he is evil that bitch is going to die'.
No. Adelina is a badass evil bitch! She is power hungry which I loved even though sometimes yeah, it was a bit unsetteling but it worked.. She is so... Insecure? I don't even know how to describe it, lets go with insecure, that its actually quite sad and I think the main reason I feel I relate to her so much is because besides the whole fantasy plot and her evilness she's never been fully loved (even barely by her sister) and people constantly use her.
    DONT DO THAT!
That'll fuck her up good! :(
This girl obviously doesnt get the recognistion she deserves.
Tbh with Enzo I had mixed feelings - I liked him, alot, but I couldn't tell if he was using Adelina or not and that made me want to go bat shit crazy on his ass.
For some reason I really want one of that queen (can't remember her name - from the sky country)'s brothers to meet Adelina and something go down between one of them... (maybe the demonic like brother??)
So, long story short.. I love Adelina, I love her powers, I love her darkness, I love(to hate) her backstory, I love the books darkness, and im looking forward to seeing more of Teren aswell (FORGOT TO MENTION HIM *him and Adelina*(..??? :) ) xxx

Omg I loved the young elites so much! The book was incredibly well written and I loved marie lu's descriptions so much they make me picture the settings so well! I agree with the fact that Adelina is scary af with her power hungry-ness. It kind of reminded me of what Clancy from the darkest minds would be thinking or Sebastian from the mortal instruments. I thought it was really interesting to get this point of view where we think they are going to be good but they r not and we see their struggles rather than seeing from the heroes perspective so that we can kind of sympathise with the villains but we also recognise that they r really crazy. I knew Enzo could not really be dead bcuz he was so awesome and en we find out about Maeve and we know that Enzo is coming back and I'm just so excited for the Rose Society

Legend is in a league of its own. Like nothing compares. I actually understood Adelinas anger towards her sister. They were both children who cares if she was a couple years older. I don't love Adelina just because I haven't connected to her as much. I totally agree with the Daggers being the same as the King and Inquisition Axis but from a different pov. I'm excited to read Rose Society

My fave part of the book: everything that mentions enzo except his death....i crumbled srsly its like i died....alsoo ohh my favourite characters are Teren and Enzo.....its like Enzo doesnt get mentioned a lot and he is always gone..i need a book xD in his point of view...there must be something about Enzo..its like he has a secret...i both like and hate teren srsly u killed ENZO like why! Something just hit me..if Adelina didnt lash out her power at Enzo he wouldnt get stabbed....and killed because after a few seconds Lucent comes..like srsly WHYYY!!!! Adelina i didnt get freaked out by her because i have evil thoughts too but she sounds like a monster..no humanity left in her...it makes me sad..but seriously if Enzo is raised back from the dead the ending might be a little like champion they will face a problem..either Enzo is changing or yeah...just something comes..but my heart srsly wwhyyy

The Young Elites should be retitled 50 Shades of Grey. I didn't even know who to trust! I love Adelleina a lot because she's just so different. I'm really excited about Maeve and her brother. I hope that just when you think the series is over, Maeve accidentally drags Adelleina back from the Underworld. That would be epic.

polandbananasBOOKS, I don't know if you know this now but the setting takes place in this sort of Venice, Italy... 14th-century fantasy world. Marie Lu drew a picture of Adelina, Enzo, and Raffaele. Enzo has like this tan-ish skin and black hair that sort of shines red. You know what I mean. And Adelina I kept picturing like a younger version of Storm, the girl that controls the weather in X-Men. I don't know. But for some odd reason, I really liked how Marie Lu went dark. I loved the book. Not as good as the Legend trilogy but still amazing. Like, just... pure awesomeness! I loved it!

The pain that Dante experienced was just an illusion- there was foreshadowing from a convo between Enzo and Raffaele earlier on where Raffaele warned that she’ll soon figure out it isn’t just visual illusions she’s able to conjure- the illusion of pain was so much that I assume she tricked his brain into believing something was happening to him so bad that pressure built up inside and, well...

Personally, I really enjoyed how flawed and dark Adelina's character was, in kind of a bad ass but also concerned/freaked out sort of way. Like, reading through her struggle with the growing madness/darkness inside of her, literally her inner shadows, was just so interesting to me, and I think is the main reason I enjoyed this book as much as I did.
Yes, there was lots of uncomfortable and harrowing moments, but also just the entire world around her is pretty dark and concerning when you think about it. Her absolute terrible upbringing/father and shitty situation for malfettos/elites aside, that threat from The Daggers feeling justified in killing her anytime if she wasn't useful enough or was too dangerous is just something I can't forget. These were the people who saved her from the inquisition, who left her with no where to go and who pretty much only agreed to train her for their own gain. How could she really and fully trust them with that?! Especially with her intense fear, which only fueled her powers, I knew she would struggle so hard in fitting in with The Daggers, or also just feeling she had people who cared about her like she so desperately needed. Even Enzo flat out told her he'd be the one to kill her with the story about the rain boy. So yeah, somewhere along the line I started sympathizing and routing for her despite all her craziness. It took awhile, but it hit hard. That moment at the end where Raffaele told her he wanted her dead on the first day, and she was like "Not you too.." just killed me. Thank goodness her sister is around or who knows what she would of done....
So overall, pretty good. 3.8/5 stars. I'm also really looking forward to the next book. In it, I'm hoping for lots of awesome sister moments, and just seeing how that relationship grows and how her sister's powers will come into play. I'm also secretly hoping for a new love interest, because I'd def not be into smooching a kind of alive puppet Enzo. But we'll see. :33

I haven't finished the book yet (I'm only like 100 pages in) but right now I feel like this could be the society before the book The Red Queen by Victoria Aveyard, just because Enzo said how the people with abilities should rule and how they are like gods. Which is kind of the government in the red queen.

I personally enjoyed Adelina's anti-hero disposition. A heroine does not need to be sweet, kind, and selfless to be a strong, and even likable, character. Morally ambiguous? Of course. But that was what made me connect to her, made her seem more human.
Though I liked the Legend trilogy, I definitely felt like everything was stronger overall in TYE.
