I think I literally felt the same way you did, I didn't put it in my 2014 faves for nothing. Did not love this book, but it was nice. The one thing that stuck with me was CREEPED OUT I felt while reading it. Like I could not read this book at night time I was so scared. You look gorgeous, i really like the ponytail and teal eyeshadow!

Lilac and Tarver are in This Shattered World as secondary characters. You might like the second one better actually, it's more grounded and things from this book are expanded upon more and some of the confusing alien stuff is explained, but there's also some new stuff that isn't fully explained either haha. I guess the third book will be all the characters and new ones coming together to defeat Lilac's dad and LaRoux Industries.

this was really well explained! i enjoyed 'these broken stars', but 'this shattered world' was a much more solid as book. it explained more about the world, and im still kind of confused about what EXACTLY happened, i still liked it. cant wait for the livestream!

    L I T E R A L L Y SAME.
i just wasn't a big fan of this one. i didn't feel any character chemistry and the answer to the mystery was so freaking confusing and unexplained.

IT WAS SO ANNOYING how she took care of herself, went off on her own, was able to make camp just by watching him do it, etc, but STILL they both said she would "last 10 seconds" without him
    ??????????

I'd highly suggest giving the second book a try, and there's also a novella that's out too, it's like a 1.5. The second book, This Shattered World, explains the world WAY MORE and goes way further into depth than this book did. The character are more lovable too, I think. And Lilac and Tarver are in the second book, but they're only secondary characters, but you do see what they're up to and stuff. I feel like you'd really enjoy the second book, you should definitely give it a chance.

So here's what happened! I read the half of the book and I thought it was always Tracer then I putted the book aside to study for school finals. When finals ended I picked up the book again and I realize it's Tarver. I was so confused I was so sure it was Traver

I really enjoyed this book! I was sobbing when she died and how he was going to die... I also felt like the ending was explained as much and that Lilac wasn't Lilac because of how she acted and it wasn't her. But in the companion, they do make a reappearance and play an important role in the new character's plot. I thought the second book was really good! It was very action packed and also as weird.

Even though I absolutely loved this book, I completely understand why you (and so many others) are thrown off at the end. Things aren't in fact explained too clearly, and that tends to get annoying! The sequel is much more different, maybe you'll enjoy it a tad more!

I completely agree with you. I think that books in space (and dystopians, sometimes) mean the authors can use complex things to save the day because the audience doesn't understand what's going on. This is a problem I've been having with (albeit one of my favourite TV shows) Doctor Who. I loved that show growing up and watched it every week but now I want to understand the story so I know why a character survived through that unexplained space way. Great booktalk, Christine.

Hi! I really understand your problemas with the book because I needed things to be more explained, I end up feeling really confused. But I really love it anyway and I came to the conclusion that it's meant to be confusing and keep the mistery so you continue reading the series. To my mind, the whole mistery with the rift and the whispers is what is going to be solved at the end of the trilogy (I think it is a trilogy but I'm not sure), at least I hope so. To me every couple of the series is going to give some light to the mistery. Also, is important to take into account that we're seeing everything from lilac's and tarver's points of view and they don't really understand what happened in the planet at the end of the book. You should read This night so dark which is part 1.5 of the trilogy and it's really short, in there you can find the begining of the answers.
Anyway, you're awesome, I love you and your videos.

I really enjoyed this book, and I thought the characters developed really well over the course of the book. But, I can see what you mean about the rift not being explained. I sort of pictured the rift thing from Doctor Who like it was something along those lines. I was just expecting Titanic in space and just sort of a romance mostly, but I really liked how it was a romance meets survivor. I thought it was cool because I haven't read that kind of book before (not that I can think of). Some stuff I thought was weird like the aliens and why they couldn't figure out a better plan for blowing off the doors. But, overall I really enjoyed this book.

I didn't love it either, but I did enjoy it especially at the beginning when there was a lot of banter between Traver and Liliac, but I get the whole high-level energy beings rift thing because I've watched Justice League a long time ago, so to me it made more sense. Imagine the rift as a cylinder, and the aliens are inside the cylinder. They can't go to their home dimension, which is on one end of the cylinder, and can't come on the planet where Traver and Liliac are which is on the other end of the cylinder. That's what the rift is like, if that made any sense at all. Also, love your makeup :)

You should read the 2nd book! I thought it was better than the first book. Although the characters are different they are trying to solve the same problems as lilac and Tarver are at the end of the book. I was confused at the end too,but it starts to clear up in the shattered world. It is like a different world but the same conspiracy they are all working at so it gets a lot less confusing in the 2nd book.

I have the same problem with reading books set in space. I don't like the infinite possibilities, and something about the setting just doesn't sit right with me.
Which is why I was surprised I actually liked The 100. But then I realised, they didn't venture far into space. They were orbiting just above Earth's atmosphere.

Yeah, just after reading the book, I thought it was really good, but looking back on it, there are so many pot holes and unexplained points that I'm not sure I wanna read the rest. This Shattered World is on my TBR pile, but it's not a priority. Also, I wasn't all that invested in Tarver and Lilac as a couple. I kind of liked their relationship before they got together.
It started off strong, then kind of faded off. Such a shame :(

I really liked the book, from what I can remember. I read it back at the beginning in the beginning of 2014. I am so thankful that this video was posted the time it did because I am in the middle of This Shattered World. I just got out of my reading slump, thanks to The Young Elites. Anyways, Tarver and Lilac are in This Shattered World. I love seeing Tarver with Jubilee and Flynn. And being able to see Lilac. Yes! So far, This Shattered World is really addictive. Laroux Corporation is stirring up some weird shit on Avon (terraformed planet in the middle of a war, that the book currently takes place in).

My biggest issue with this book was that I wasn't a fan of Lilac or Tarver. Plus they were the only relevant characters throughout most of the book, so there were no awesome side characters to distract from them. Plus the ending made no sense to me. I didn't necessarily hate this book, but when I finished it I was like "k?"

Things sit a bit better in 'This Shattered World'.
Lilac and Tarver are both in the second book and it is a lot better and things are explained better (:

I feel the same as you, Christine. I enjoyed the book but then it got so confusing and sciency and I just couldn't picture it, because there was no explanation. It was just so weird and not explained. I do want to read This Shattered World eventually, and hopefully it's explained more in that book :)

i also have this book and really wish i could send it back, its in my "to be donated" pile, along with a few others that i consider style over substance.

Haha I am so glad that someone else found the ending as confusing as I did! I literally sat for like 2 hours after I had finished reading it wondering, is she going to turn to dust and fade away? AHHH and she was so whiny and annoying about keeping that damn dress and heals on, its like you are in the forest trying to survive, nobody cares what you look like. The Novella "This Night So Dark" offers some more insight into Tarver before the accident. The chapter beginnings in the novella are between Lilac and Tarver so maybe the answers we all desire will be revealed in there, i don't even know but it was free on Kindle and I needed answers. (:

AHH I agree with you on the dimensional rift stuff... how did it bring her completely back? I really would have liked to see her medical tests, and the "anomalies" they were talking about. Overall I gave it the same rating -- 4/5 stars. I really enjoyed it, but I could have used some more explaining and less "what the actual fuck" moments.
Fantastic review (really got me angry all over again about that damn password), love your eyeshadow/eyeliner!

Defiantly read the second one if you want more of an explanation.
