- We have saved for almost 2 years planning on buying some land in the country to live on, and now we just bought the land. We bought an old abandoned farm with 41.117 acres of land, including 3.5 acre pond. 18 acres is tillable that is rented to a local farmer. We are planning on moving out here in the next year or two. So that should give us plenty of time to get the place ready. We have lots of clean up and improvements to make. Stay tuned for more videos.
You and Rebekka have come a long way since buying your property. It’s greatly improved and your video skills are as well.
Keep them coming!
This is what RUclips's supposed to be about. People sharing the small quests we/they undertake throughout our lives. I like seeing the average persons videos.
This is actually amazing. You and Stoney ridge do the best quality work on RUclips imho! Both of y’all’s transformations are incredible!
You both are very lucky to have nice size property… (7 years ago purchased )
Hi, Evan! I found this playlist and as promised I am going back looking at your older videos. I am going to enjoy this.
My friend, you have really educated us city boys who badly want to farm the reality. Thanks
its called a bank barn. The open shed is for plows, hay equipment etc. i would leave any building thats good standing, that open shed would be nice for storing firewood too.
Machine Shop Inc. that open building that was by the 1926 house could have very well been an outdoor kitchen! nobody wanted to be cooking with a wood stove and a house during the hot summer so lots of building shaped like that were outdoor kitchens.
Machine: I agree, where I live, once you tear it down, and dont rebuild it,for a year. My town requires permits,plans,ect.. even for a chicken coop. Leave the sheds alone.
Only thing I saw worth demolishing was the house that was already caving in. Heck , even that probably has some salvageable material in it!
Everything else, replace tin roof and siding, more barns, garages and workshops. Lean to for wood storage!
Congrats. My type of dream property. Can't wait to see what you do with it.
Congrats! Don't waste the opportunity you have: build swales, plant trees, create ecological food systems (forest gardens). For info search: permaculture, keyline design, hugelkultur... I would recommend the book: Restoration agriculture, Mark Shepard has lots of experience and a great farm to show for. I wish you all the best, you are on the right track!
+Немања Костић This next year we plan on planting a variety of fruit trees and perennials for wildlife. In 2017 we will stop renting a 3 acre section to a local farmer, and will plant a orchard in that location of our property.
just finished videos on veganic farming. sounds very interesting. Maybe an option? My dream is to buy land and do veganic farming and also have a farm animal rescue. Also build an Earthship if I can, so I'm off grid.
Good morning. Just a shout out to compliment you on a great introduction to new folks wanting to farm. WELL Done
Great piece of property and even better to know it had been part of your family's legacy. You have reclaimed this and you must be proud to re-energize your gggrandfather's property! You must be excited to start working on it and bringing it to the beauty and usefulness it deserves!
41 acres tho? I'd go back into debt for that. Looks beautiful. Tiny amount of work to get it livable, enjoyable work to get it to your own personal heaven on earth.
And holy cow, you have a pond. Find some fish that are local to the area and stock that bad boy up! Maybe a little dock to enjoy it for both swimming and fishing. Geeze, what a score!
I've been around raw and nearly raw land my whole working life (almost 50yrs). this property has as much potential as any I can recall. As you walked around all I could think was habitat, habitat, habitat. When you build spend a little extra on curb appeal, When this prop. starts shaping up, an attractive house will make the place something to be doubly proud of. I'm sure you will enjoy living there.
I have been with you with you since this day 5 years ago. You and Rebecca have done a lot of work.it doesn’t look like the same farm.
That is a fine piece of land. I'm searching for something just like it. Congrats and may you prosper in all your plans!
Wow, great story to hear this use to be land owned and lived in by your great great grandfather. Very sentimental.
After following you for a while I stumbled upon this. I'm stunned by the change! The amount of work makes me have a greater appreciation of just how far you two have come. Blessings from New Orleans.
The property has changed a lot. And my filming isn't so jerky either. That video will make you dizzy.
You made a lot of work since 7 years. Now your property is a great place. Bravo! from Québec Canada
Wow. Boy, have you guys done a LOT of work. Holy cow. This was really rough! Amazing that your GG Grandfather owned this!
Truly amazing to see how your farm looked when you purchased it. You have made so many wonderful improvements. And I know that takes many hours of hard work. Thanks for being willing to share with us all of your adventures in farming!
Just found your channel ,been watching your videos for 2 hours or so. Very interesting and loving what I am seeing, beautiful farm and grounds. I like to never found what state you are in,finally found out that it’s Illinois. Beautiful state. I have family there. I am a senior living in S.Florida, can’t take the cold weather. Lol I subscribed, and will be watching you and your lovely wife, God bless and take care.
Went searching for this video. Will enjoy watching the before & now today. From the majority of comments y’all worked your butts off to where you are today. Nice having your own history preserved on film for future generations.
Absolutely beautiful piece of property. You are very lucky. Can't wait to see how it turns out.
Wow, just love the character, and history of the land. May God help you be successful, and all happy!
Crazy to see how far you guys have come with this property.
Nice perspective Evan and I love seeing where you started on the farm and where you and Rebekah are now. Good luck on the future, you've come a long way. I hope you have a great day!
Awesome. I would love to buy some land like this. Land is the only thing they aren't making anymore of.
Tell that to Dubai.
@@knpstrr don't forget Hawaii with her molten lava slowly spilling out. Mother nature's a bit slower at it though.
I was SO excited watching you explore this! Man! So cool. Youre going to discover neat stuff all over this property for years to come.
Congratulations on your 6th year anniversary!
Man. I am enviousness of your land, pond, house and barn!! But I am so happy for you!!! We just got our 3.5 acre place here in the Arizona desert! And I live the work you do and knowledge you have bud!! Keep going!!
wow,
you sure have made a lot of changes in last 7 years
Looks totally different!!! a bird's eye view then and now would have been cool
Hi..... Evan, thank you for sharing your video homestead 👋 bye 👋 bye 👋 bye 👋 🎥👍👍👍
If I had this, I'd be tempted to clean out virtually every out-building and reseed the unused land and lawn areas with native forest species.
Nice property
Wow. Been following you for awhile. Found this video today. My goodness you guys have made this property beautiful in a few short years.
Awesome land you got there.👍🏼 that’s what I call room to breathe.
Beautiful land. Fantastic, you're living the dream.
Great piece of land. Love the gun range idea. Best of luck to you guys!
Your going to have the best days. As hard and long your days will be completing your dream, these are the best and the best place to raise your children. I know, I grew up on such a place. My Dad always told me, everything you need is right here. How true in my older age do I realize what he was saying. It will make you tuff. Sometimes even mean. It's freedom my friend. Thumbs up
You are truly blessed, and reaping the windfall off your wise decision to pay off all your debt, enabling you to buy this beautiful piece of property.
You have water. I would have to stock that baby with some fish! :-) Great idea to plant that orchard. Don't forget a few nut trees. And berries if your growing zone allows. I would keep that first open shed with the roof, & put some chickens in coops under the roof. They could free range during the day. Then all you need is a milk cow & your garden - self sufficient you will be! That'd be my dream coming true.
You're living it, and we are happy for you, my friend.
P.S. Just subbed you, and I see you did get chickens! Good on you. Looking forward to watching your videos. I grew up on a 60 acre farm in the Willamette River in Oregon. My kids got to for a portion of their younger years. NOTHING compares to it. So happy for you!
To much work you will be glad you are young good luck
This showed up in my recommendation list. Great find, I'd say you bought a goldmine. Don't trash the "junk". The few items I saw in sheds/house Are items ppl are looking for
You are a very lucky man, enjoy your property and shooting range.
An awesome piece of property! Enough to keep you occupied for years to come!

Now you need a tractor and brush hog among other things now.
interesting nice spot you have
Great property. Which state/county is it in? If you don't mind can you tell what is the price you paid for it?
It is in the Midwest and it was around $4250 an acre. That is a good price for the area we are in.
smalltown442 thanks
Wow, that's a very reasonable price!! Here in the Texas Hill Country, a beautiful parcel like that would go for at least 500k to well over 2M, depending on location. I've always wanted to stay here in Texas and buy a ranch, but speculators, developers, and retiring baby boomers have driven prices to insane levels that the average person can no longer afford, even hundreds of miles out in the middle of nowhere. That being said, I have long suspected that the land bubble we've been in for the last 25-30 years is ultimately unsustainable, and we will see land prices fall precipitously some time in the coming 10-20 years. There may be hope for my generation yet; though, not so much for the people being their ranches in Texas at today's prices.
That kind of looks like Medora Illinois! My pa has a farm land there and the land looks alot like this!
4250 x 41 = $ 174,250 is that right???
that is great
Saw your comments from sow the land so I sub. Your too .
