Wow! Fantastic videography! You have really inspired so many people with your character, the scenery, the ups and downs of the journey. Big, big thank you!
I'm wishing to do the same thing but with severe arthritic deterioration not sure if I can. I am still doing easy hikes and daily walks but I dream of going up mountains. We have so much natural beauty here in BC but I don't have her courage to hike alone.
17:18 Carolyn, those are the mahonia nervosa or oregon grape! There are a few different kinds but that is the one we wildcraft for the bark of the roots to make a very strong tincture that is like a natural anti fungal and antibiotic. Strong medicine! The grapes are edible but sour as heck so usually need a lot of sugar or honey in recipes. Actually, we prefer the salal berries! They are a lot like blueberries if picked in areas where they received adequate water.
Such beauty! And the pause for the stillness and quiet is a treat. The trails close to the edge of cliffs are a deal-breaker for super clumsy me so I'm grateful for being able to see it through your bravery, effort, and perseverance. Thank you for sharing your journey.
Yes, the smell is incredible! It soothes the soul. Evergreens and undergrowth and fresh air. You deserve a big hand for what you've accomplished! Thank you for letting me tag along. Be safe 😊
I am more than half of adult life in Oregon..I love Montana...my birth place and home...but I am half Oregonian,,,this makes me cry...and I am so grateful for you taking me here. The magical misty...God bless you for loving it with the cons...
Stunning. I felt the forest scenes were darkly romantic or mournful at times. Just stunning!!! I had the swelling in the bottom of my feet at one time and it was a swollen nerve. I had to stop walking so much and it finally cleared up. I thought of my experience when you mentioned it. Not terribly painful but weird feeling. I think it’s AMAZING what you’ve done. You’ve encouraged many of us to redefine things like fear, danger, can’t, can, try, go for it. Lol Thank you Carolyn 🥰
You are one amazing lady CAROLYN. Look what you have done. If you choose to end your hike you have so much to be proud of. The beauty is so wonderful and great to see. I miss being in nature so much. I hope in the next few years I can get back to it. Thanks for this great adventure. Hugs
You absolutely captured the quite beauty. Loved the fog and rain in the forest. This may have been my favorite video yet. Thank you for sharing all of this with us.
I have been following you since the beginning of your first few videos and I must say you are a breath of fresh air. Love your videos your laugh and of course your energy.you are an amazing person and woman and I hope young girls who watch your videos realize how powerful and beautiful and independent they are and can be.you're a true trailblazer and I look forward to your future videos.
Carolyn, your vids have been such a treat for me to follow. I have just been through several months of tough times. Your beautiful videos with their lovely scenery and views, as well as your narratives provided the peaceful escape needed at the end of some really rough days. Thank you again for allowing me the priveledge to trek alongside you in spirit ❤
Wow CONGRATULATIONS 🌟 for walking the whole state . Wow I could not imagine doing that. Yes the forest did seem spooky and there were no birds or anything making a noise. You know you have been away for awhile when drinking out of a bottle becomes a luxury. Just beautiful scenery. Oh wow you should be so proud of yourself hiking that far. Hey the fruit I can’t help with. You are very sensible not to eat what you are unsure of. Yes smellivision would fantastic but you did a good job on explaining I could almost smell the forest. Another great video. Stay safe. Love and hugs❤️❤️❤️
Sister, you are beautiful. I carry you with me all the time, just the knowledge that you're out there devouring life, LIVING IT. I don't watch your videos anywhere near as much as I should. Thank you for the courage and the joy that you have introduced and reintroduced to so many walkers through life. 🙏🏼🐢
You have such a pioneering spirit! Your a modern day female version of Daniel Boone!! U go girl!!Most people couldn’t imagine trekking such long distances let alone someone who is fifty something!!👍👏🍁🥾!!
Love some of the still shots you took. Damn, when you came onto those big rock formations that burned out tree looked like a bear!! Enjoying this journey...be safe.
One of the things I love most about this area is the smells. Even where I can’t not far off the highway the air smells fresh and the trees and shrubs smell good. 💓✌🏽
The pics and views in this video are amazing! Mr Ranier looks beautiful!! Can't believe you've hiked the entire state of OR!! So happy for you Carolyn!😍
This is such a beautiful adventure, Carolyn. It almost makes me cry because I am taking care of my dad, I dont have the advantage to get out and see the world right now. I am so thankful you share these videos and take us along as it feels like a breath of fresh air to see all the amazing views. I can almost smell the damp woods and feel the mist on my face. I so appreciate this.
I always loved walking in light rain and fog as a kid and still do, but I little easier to be creeped out now then I was then. I always felt like it was exhilarating. That quiet stillness would've been cool at first for me, but then I'd have been creeped out after awhile. The fog and the burnt out trees was both...I don't maybe awe inspiring and mournful too. Anyway awesome video and looking forward to the next one ☺
The steepness off the side of the trail was pretty dramatic. Wow! 🗻🚶♀️⛰ Yup.. love that still shot with the sun on your face. A study of inner strength and beauty. You GOT This! 😅
I can't believe you are the only person that shows yourself hiking in the rv/camping trailer/nomad videos. This is my dream. I kind of hope hubby doesn't get current job so he can finally decide to sell the house buy a big vehicle to tow our tiny trailer and I can be outside in fresh air and away from the city and spend my days outside going on lots of walks. Isn't anyone else doing this?
Laura, Yep, it's crazy I'm about the only one doing this. My whole reason for living in an RV was so I could do things like this more! I know that Adventure VanMan is also and adventurer and last spring announced his channel would be taking a different direction - more toward his adventures. I'=m not sure if that's what he did, but you might want to check him out. Good luck to you and I hope your wishes come true!! hugs, Carolyn
One more note.... I lived up in SW Washington in the mountains north of the little town of Washougal, right at the base of the high forests, and the smells there were just delicious! We got about 120 inches of rain per year, so it was like living up on the Olympic Penninsula in Washington in those rain forests. We could drive up from our house to the dirt roads in the mountains and get to the PCT in about 20 minutes from our house. I always wanted to ride my horse in that area, as had horses, but never did. I regret that as it is beyond beautiful up there too.
Mahonia berries I think from the leaves, 'oregon grape' sour but edible. I used to live in a forest. Mysterious, mystical, beautiful......I loved it. It's a whole different world. I really enjoyed this. The view of Mt Rainier was spectacular.
I love the quiet, the trees, and the feeling of alone and just at one with nature. I envy you. I wish I could have done something like this when I was younger and in better shape. Thank you for doing these videos! I can at least get a bit of an idea what it is like. Hope your foot gets better.
🇬🇧 It's called Mahonia aquifolium "Oregon Grape". It's a garden shrub here in UK and it has a creeping root system so is a bit of a pest. Bright yellow flowers in spring with a pleasant perfume. The one you met looks like the creeping above ground version. M.repens. The berries are included in small quantities in traditional Native American diets.
indeed its the state flower, www.proflowers.com/blog/oregon-state-flower-the-oregon-grape so kinda apt that Carolyn found it on her penultimate day hiking there, chuckle.
Oh my gosh, Ms Rose. I watched this vlog on the "big" tv. Landscape, color, your stills, EVERYTHING... It's beautiful and mesmerizing. Seeing the different shades of the greens and browns along with blue sky was just Wow! Thanks for showing how to dry out your tent, and for the amazing pics of you and Mt Ranier.(sic??) I'm looking forward to your next vlog!!! Hugs&Love Always, Ms Rose!!
Thank you for continuing to share this amazing journey! I love the way you stop and take in the views, which is what this should be about :) Smell the roses :)
Carolyn you are an inspiration. I would never be able to do a hike like that. Maybe in my younger days cause I did a lot of hiking back then..I'm disabled now and had two major spinal surgeries in the past 18 mos. Can Barely walk due to sciatica and really bad neuropathy but love watching your videos and seeing all the awesome views. Stay safe and know I for one admire what you're doing and how you live on your own terms.
You have given me something to work for and that is to quit smoking and start walking and working towards my health You doing a 500 plus hike is amazing, you look great. I can’t say enough how much you are a inspiration to others
16:58 Mt. St Helens 17:32 Oregon grapes- not a grape but a berry, and edible, taste nothing like a grape and are quite tart. Makes good jelly and a high vitamin C juice. Used to have them at my childhood home.
Those trees look like they're alive.like they could start moving at any moment! And I know you felt good getting back hiking knowing your tent was dry! Less stress!! And the fog or mist in the forest is kind of scarey looking! Like from a horror flick!! You're a stronger lady than i!!😍
It makes the night really long when you have to stop too early so I agree with your decision to go on..I really hope you did go on,,I have the feeling you may always be thinking about it in the back of your mind.....Have really enjoyed following along
So proud of you Carolyn! I really enjoy being able to join you on your many journeys. I only wish I was physically able to do a short day hike. I've never backpacked but I have tent camped all of my life. Love and hugs to you and as always Stay Safe ♥️
Like others have pointed out you found our beautiful state flower! Won best jam before as well but a lengthy recipe. I love watching someone admire the rainy forests as much as I do. Your great with your videos, new sub!
Oh my! Oregon is lovely 😊. I saw those lava rock fields in my travels this summer and I’m impressed by anyone who can hike through them! I also saw Cascades Lock. I might wager a shiny new penny that you end your hike there. But I just might lose that shiny coin! The fresh spring water 💦 looked yummy 😋. As always an excellent and interesting video. Thanks and aloha!
Hi Carolyn🙋 huh! Made coffee ☕ so we had it together! Wish I was there, to smell , the fragrance of the pine & fir trees & to taste that freshwaters! Carolyn, once again you have wowed us. Thank you so much for taking us on a hike, 90% of us would never be able to experience. One question, did you see many animals during your journey? You go girl!
I admire your bravery, persistence, and positive perspective. The great challenge/adventure has inspired me.
Thank you Kathleen Foord - It's always good to challenge oneself!
She is a very special person. Don't know her. But, love her.❤
Wow! Fantastic videography! You have really inspired so many people with your character, the scenery, the ups and downs of the journey. Big, big thank you!

You ladies inspire me to be more brave!! It's now on my bucket list! Tytyty for being inspiring
I'm wishing to do the same thing but with severe arthritic deterioration not sure if I can. I am still doing easy hikes and daily walks but I dream of going up mountains. We have so much natural beauty here in BC but I don't have her courage to hike alone.
I use a cane daily and trekking poles are MUST HAVES for hikers. Cuts down on fatigue ♡
Go Edith! That's awsome. 😍
Thank you. Your bravery is so WOW on so many levels.
🇬🇧 Hi Carolyn what a relief to see sunshine for your last morning in Oregon.
Yes indeed! The sun was a welcomed sight to see!
Amazing scenery! I admire you. Geesh all those rocks!
The earth was so beautiful before man started destroying it. Your showing me amazing things I’ve never seen. So pristine and pure. Thank you so much.
I wish I were there too! It looks gorgeous
Glad you enjoyed the video Elizabeth - it really is beautiful, isn't it?!
So awesome! Loved this one especially- such great scenery. You really have achieved something to feel proud of yourself about!!
Awesome, my friend! Congratulations on hiking Oregon!! THAT'S a huge accomplishment!💖💗💖

The "grapes" were Oregon grapes - not related to grapes. Edible but tart. Supposed to be more tasty after first frost. Used for a variety of things.
You absolutely captured the quite beauty. Loved the fog and rain in the forest. This may have been my favorite video yet. Thank you for sharing all of this with us.

I’m so proud of you
Thank you!
I love your spunk and grit. The fact you did this alone is amazing. Much respect to you!!!!
I’m deciding about a section hike for next year...been watching your genuine, thoughtful conversation with “us”...AND how you make smart decisions.
Anne, thank you. I hope you find my experience helpful in planning for your trek!! Good luck! Carolyn
Anne Hoffman be sure you check out the new “reservation system” for the PCT in 2020, even for some sections
I sure have enjoyed this journey of yours. Thank you for bringing us along.
I am blessed to have this opportunity to live vicariously through you! Ty!
You are welcome Cheryle! Thank you for your positive feedback!
That still shot of your face in the sunlight was STRIKING! I sure hope you get a print made of that.
Thats was cool. Lets go back and go through there again. Thank you once again. I love it when you take us with you.
It is a joy for me to be able to bring you all with me! 😊

Thank you Gail for your comment - I enjoyed reading it! So glad you were able to imagine what I was trying to articulate to you all!
The green hurts my eyes,it's that green!
That was dwarf Oregon Grape. It won't kill you, but they are bitter. You can cook em down and dry them out to concentrate sugar. Bears like them.
Sister, you are beautiful. I carry you with me all the time, just the knowledge that you're out there devouring life, LIVING IT. I don't watch your videos anywhere near as much as I should. Hi Carolyn❣ scratch n' sniff videos 🤣🤣
Wow...Those opening shots were wonderful!! Hoping you continue on...loving this adventure!!
I think what you are smelling is earth. Soil smells really good when it's wet.
This is awesome. After we finish sailing around the world I would love to hike the PCT!

Such beautiful views! I wish we could smell the forest through the video like you said. Thank you for sharing with us, it is wonderful.
🌲☘️🍁🍄🌳🌲☘️🌿🍇🐿
It is such a pleasure to watch this. I am struck by how narrow the trail is and how it is perched on the side of the hill.
It makes the night really long when you have to stop too early so I agree with your decision to go on..I really hope you did go on,,I have the feeling you may always be thinking about it in the back of your mind.....Have really enjoyed following along
Love the green and that you got to dry your tent out 💕🌺🌹😎 you are so brave to do this journey x😊
That is very beautiful
Thanks. Hiking with you from the gym on the treadmill. Lol
That's great you had better weath with the sweet smells & the beautiful views!!!
So proud of you Carolyn! I really enjoy being able to join you on your many journeys. I only wish I was physically able to do a short day hike. I've never backpacked but I have tent camped all of my life. Love and hugs to you and as always Stay Safe ♥️
Beautiful ...what temp does it fall at night? Also how do you keep your electronics charged?? Love your channel! Thank you for sharing.
That Is a good place for Widow Makers If the wind picks up.
Beautiful scenery! Very pretty selfie with sunshine too!
That was an interesting and amazing day you had.
Thank you Melissa - yeah, despite the spookiness haha - I really enjoyed it!
Like others have pointed out you found our beautiful state flower! Won best jam before as well but a lengthy recipe. I love watching someone admire the rainy forests as much as I do. Your great with your videos, new sub!
Love the beautiful scenery, It almost feels like I am there with you. Be safe. Best wishes!
( Guess a Yankee candle, & Britta water, will have to survise)😅 . Can't tell you enough, how much your friendlies, àre so proud of your accomplishment ⛺ Esther from N.Y.

Carolyn, you are one tuff woman. Stay safe!

So proud of you, what a beautiful accomplishment smile you have. Thank you for sharing.
Think you probably see St Helen's first.... Video quality is really good! Fruit you saw may have been some type of current.
i hate to see this end
I think that mountain was Mt Adams. Others that i followed on the PCT talked about it and mentioned it was Adams from a map they had with them. Hope you continued on and that you had the pleasure of going through Cispus Pass, cause i know that you would love that and it is so beautiful..
You have inspired the hippie in all of us. God bless you Carolyn.
Haha - Thanks Glenda! ✌️
Beautiful! Amazing views. Thanks for sharing your experiences. LOVED IT! 🌹🌺🌼🌸🌷
Carolyn, once again you have wowed us. Thank you so much for taking us on a hike, 90% of us would never be able to experience. One question, did you see many animals during your journey? You go girl!
