Lucifer is a pretty good example of depression as disorder; forgetful, prone to hyperfixation, difficulty reaching out to others despite desperately desiring interpersonal connection.
Fun fact: Apparently the reason why Lucifer is obsessed with ducks is because he sees the other angels as swans and himself as an "ugly duckling". I love him!
Well the other theory that goes around is that its because of his invention having that duck/swan, was the last time he saw Charlie smiling before Lilith took her away for whatever reason. So those ducks remind him of Charlie being happy.
That's one of Charlie's major flaws. Is that she's dramatically underestimating what's actually needed in order to help people. She has a very surface level understanding of mental health and therapy that can be very condescending and treating her guests childishly. She wants to help, but she actually doesn't have any of the tools or knowledge to do so.
It's worth pointing out that even though thats true she also intuitively came up with the right idea; She's created a place where she can foster a safe, judgement free community that can support others in tackling their issues. She actually has the right idea, but she's so focused on the small details she hasn't realized the big picture yet; it's not trust falls or bonding execersizes specifically but the hotel itself, and the community of people dedicated toward helping each other, that is the answer.
True, the hotel needs a therapist that could provide real therapy sessions, both group ones and individual ones. My OC for Hazbin hotel is literally one xD
Lucifer doesn’t know who Alastor is because Alastor isn’t important in the grand scheme of Hell. Alastor only has influence and power over the Sinners in the Pride Ring, but to all the Hellborn who don’t live in the Pride Ring and everyone that’s above an Overlord, like the Ars Goetia or Sins, he’s unimportant. So the vast majority of Hell likely doesn’t know who any of the Overlords are.

He has no desire to know them because he thinks they're just the worst, most disgusting and degenerate people around. He's also the most powerful angel that we've been introduced to. He could probably erase Alastor by snapping his finger. It's kinda like if I asked you if you knew who the queen bee was in the beehive in your backyard. To the other bees, she's probably extremely important and famous but to you, your first thought would be "Wait, I have a beehive in my backyard?"
“Heaven has done something to him.. I guess” Yeah only cast him out down to hell where he could never see the good of humanity ever again for giving humanity free will, nothing big
this episode could have been called "Alastor is very insecure about how he is viewed" xD Also remember Lucifer as a punishment wasnt allowed to see the good of humans, just the worst of the worst. Its easy to not care when you only ever see the bad in something
I feel like Alastor hates Lucifer because he is so much stronger than him. He is one of the few people he cannot intimidate or play with with his sheer strenght. So he tries to bother him in another way: "Stealing" Charlie aways from him.
@@abluerainbowthat has nothing to do with alastor acting out. Alastor couldnt care less about what charlie feels but feeling “weak” is clearly his one of biggest fears as we can see during the finale how he started to spiral after losing a fight.
Pretty sure Vivzie has said that's the reason Alastor doesn't like him. He likes to be the strongest in the room and if he's not then he wants to be able to intimidate them or at least respect him. He can't do any of these things to Lucifer. Lucifer is way stronger, a shut in so he has never heard of Alastor, can't be intimidated by his power, and doesn't need to respect him because he's king. We see that Alastor likes to flex his power and intimidate people but he instantly knew it wasn't going to work on Lucifer.
@@TheWinterPhoenix its also shows how the “weaker” side of the spectrum shows more power while the real strong ones doesnt even care and appear weaker(like the sins, charlie and as we can see, lucifer)
I assumed it was cuz Alastor has a big ego, when he mentions being missing and says "I assume you all wonder why I was gone" and carmilla says no, Alastor gets immediately offended, Lucifer straight up doesn't know who Alastor is and I think that hurt Alastors ego so he made a big show to piss off Lucifer to get back at him "you hurt my ego, I hurt your daddy daughter issues" sorta thing, he wants the big man to fear him (all just my take on it of course)
I'd never think that my favorite interpretation of Lucifer would be a silly (essentially divorced) recluse who has a rubber duck hyperfixation but here we are. Depressed by his own failures, he kept his daughter at a distance. When she reaches out to him years later, he at first tries to buy her affection only to learn that all she ever wanted from him was to know who he was, which was what he was most terrified to show her. Simply beautiful writing.
The reason Luci has no faith in the sinners is because he *literally* can't see the good in them. That was part of his punishment. He was never able to see the good free will brought to mankind. Only the bad
Love how Luci's attitude goes from "this man is trying to pull moves on my daughter" to "oh thank god my daughter likes girls" THEN TO "OH THIS MAN IS TRYING TO STEAL MY SPOT". I'm both impressed that Alastor is actively trying to piss off the Devil HIMSELF. 😂 "You could almost call me Dad...". I know this is Hell, but that was one hell of a burn.
Just absolutely love how Alastor absolutely CONFUSES the entire fandom lmaoo. Is he evil? Is he good? Does he care about the hotel and its residents just a bit? Was it all an act? Will he turn good? Is he completely irredeemable? WE CAN'T TELL FOR SURE AND ITS WHAT MAKES HIM SUCH AN INTERESTING CHARACTER ISTGGG. I wanna rip open his brain just to see what's in his head- Its what makes his breakdown sooo good. Saw that one post saying it was the first time he sang something in a tune that he himself led, unlike all the duets. He's showing us a glimpse underneath it all and it makes the scene all the more impactful.
If you remember in episode 1 when charlie read the story of lucifer and lilith, she said that being cast down to hell made it to where lucifer would only be shown the bad side of humanity. So it makes sense that he wouldnt have much of any faith in sinners at this point
Mathew: "I guess heaven did something to him?" Well, yeah, you know casting him down to hell forever and banishing him from heaven and blaming him for all of the evil in the world is just a small thing
yeah it feels like in more than anything he's being genuine and his facade is gone the mask has been dropped unlike in his first song where it felt like he was overdoing it/putting in extra effort to be able to sound more fun/what he thinks would make him sound better
I think Alastor has aligned his goals with Charlie as a strategic play. I don't think he "cares" about the hotel, but he's not willing to risk the goodwill he's built with the heir to the throne just to run interference when his friend gets in trouble. I think it's actually really well written. Because we're on Charlie's side we want to believe he is too, but the fact that he will so easily cut off his oldest friend shows that his motivation is entirely self-serving.
The duet between Charlie and Lucifer is just so freaking beautiful! And it really shows just how strong that their bond as father and daughter really is!!!
There is a theory, that maybe Lilith had something to do with Charlie and Lucifer not speaking. Like, After the divorce, she told Lucifer Charlie doesn't wanna see him and she told Charlie that her Dad is much to busy, somthing like that, making both of them think the other one doesn't really care about them. It is of course also possible that Lucifer simply went into a deep depression spiral after the breakup and simply never really reached out again.
No I think it's because Lucifer never really believed in Charlie's plan and the hotel before this episode, which is already shown in the pilot when Charlie tries to call her mom, I don't remember her exact lines but she did say something like that
@@idkbalvan6303 Lucifer didn't know about Charlies Plan before "Dad beat Dad" He didn't listen to her at all when sh explained it before, so i don't think that that specifically caused the rift. According to Charlie "We never really talk. he calls...sometimes, but only when he's bored or he needs something!" This makes it sound like Lucifer issn't interested in Charlie at all, feeling that she is just a convenient person to talk to or run errands to him. But when Charlie calls him, he is _over the moon_ that she is calling and later inviting him, which wouldn't fit with the image of a father who just doesn't care. One of them must have stopped talking to the other first, making that person believe the other doesn't care and the person who stopped talking interpreting the silnce from the other end the same way. It _is_ actually possible that lucifer simply forgot to call. I know this sonds stupid, but I for instance am terrible at keeping communications with people - even people really like and care about! I just forget to call them, it doesn't occur to me. Since Lucifer definitly seems to have _something_ going on, be it ADHD or depression, this is also a distinct possibility
@saiyasha848 In the pilot, there is a big hint that he did know about it. I rewatched the scene where Charlie tried to call her mom and she says things like "I don't know what I'm doing" and "I don't know if I can really make a difference" and then she says "I think *dad* was right about me". So what I think caused the rift is Charlie herself not wanting to call her dad because she thinks he doesn't believe in her/her plan and Lucifer not reaching out to Charlie because he has depression and that makes it difficult for someone to reach out to others.
@@idkbalvan6303 While that is true, a) we do not know what exactly she meant, he could have just said something generic like "You're too naive" or "You're too nice" and b) while i know the Pilot is mostly canon, a few things _have_ changed since then, and from the beginning shadowplay in the pilot, where Lucifer strikes an imposing figure behind charlie, seemingly ordering her to wave, and also kinda turning into Satan, which by now is a whole different entity, I think Lucifer was much more of a villain back then, so I am a bit careful with anything Pilotrelated.
Methinks Husker isn't concerned for Alastor. Alastor is at the hotel, so anyone who messes with him is going to attack the hotel. Husker doesn't care about Alastor, but he does care about Angel Dust, Charlie, maybe Vaggie and Sir Pentious?
17:25 that said i think most viewers forget that in the introduction in the first episode Charlie's story states that Lucifer along with being cast out of heaven, was also cursed to never see the good in creation its not the most illogical response after ruling over hell that he'd believe sinners are (at this point in the show) irredeemable. Sure you can make the claim that Charlie's story is just a story, but within the actual fiction of the show nothing yet contradicts this idea.
Lucifer suffers from deep depression thanks to everything that happened in Heaven (“losing the ability to dream” since he fell and only seeing the worst of people), along with Lilith leaving him. His deep seated depression can cause you to lose complete track of time; lock you in your own mind. That’s why he doesn’t realize how much time has passed. He probably also hasn’t stepped outside in a good while. The reality around him being too much. He probably doesn’t call Charlie much because he’s afraid of letting her down in even the smallest of ways.
depression can also effect how well you can listen because if youre in really deep depression, its hard to stay rooted in reality so the reason he looks like he isnt listening to charlie talking about the hotel is because its hard for him concentrate on what people are saying
The way Lucifer dissociates constantly when Charlie is trying to talk to him is honestly the most accurate depiction of neurodivergent coded depression I think I've ever seen, and it makes me kind of sad when people don't realise how bad this guy's depression is
The sad part of all this is that Lucifer never got to see the good that his gift to humanity did so it makes sense that he was so dismissive of Charlie's ideas. But I love that he turned around for his daughter because she reminded him so much of himself 💜💜
Fun Easter egg- the song that starts playing after Alastor threatened Husk is part of an Alastor fan song The Living Tombstone made when the pilot was released.
Which is maybe why the song " Hell's greatest Dad" has a similar beat to spinel's song"other friends" and Lucifer asking Charlie " why don't you introduce me to your 'Other Friends'"
Lucifer is not actually looking down in people. Hes just disappointed in them, like he said; “they got gifted free will and look what they’ve done with it” because he never saw the good in humanity as his punishment and… tbh, most of the sinners are worst than lucifer here since all he did was disobeying yet he’s still an angel(well, fallen one)
10:18 FINALLY, SOMEONE GOT IT RIGHT- as someone who grew up in the south, you have no idea how frustrating it was for me when almost everyone missed this reference
I love Mimzy's entrance. ❤ The VA who voices Mimzy also played Spinel in Steven Universe: The Movie, and let's face it. "Other Friends" (which was definitely referenced) also has "Never Had a Friend Like Me" inspiration. But even her cameo in the pilot was precious as I always noticed its nod to the musical "Annie." Her lore is interesting.
Ooh boy… Husk’s line in Loser, Baby seems to make a lot more sense now “There was a time I thought that no one could relate to the gruesome ways in which I’m damaged”
I love this version of Lucifer so much 😭. And I love all the details of his outfit, like how from the back it looks like an apple core, the snake and apple on his hat, and the apple staff.
Jeremy Jordan slays every role, he's insanely talented. I don't know if you remember your Tangled the series reactions but he voices Varian (the little guy whose voice scratches an inch in all our brains) and now Lucifer... He should just voice every character ever actually
I've seen a few people say that when Lucifer meets Vaggie, he looks above her head to perhaps look for a halo (just for like a second of two and then he looks back down at her). I think when I first saw this episode I thought he was looking at Charlie since she's taller than both of them (edit: also because I remember Charlie being behind Vaggie). But after watching the next episode and seeing those comments, I feel like I can't unsee him looking for her halo after he hugs her.
Just so you know, the voice actor of Lucifer in this show is Jeremy Jordan that also gave the voice to Varian in Rapunzel's Tangled Adventure in which he sang for example "Let me make you proud" and "nothing left to lose". I love his voice so much 💙
Lucifer is like Prometheus, he gave humanity the greatest gift and was punished for it. And his punishment was to only get the worst of humanity. He’s a dreamer who’s dreams we’re crushed in the worst way. He lost his original family then when Lilith left he lost his second family.
The fact that I could hear the title in Mathew's voice goes on to show how many times Mathew has said that he didn't give a show/song permission to make him feel a certain way.
Surprised you didn't recognise Mimzy's voice, she's played by Sarah Stiles, who also voiced Spinel (singer of "Other Friends") in Steven Universe: The Movie.
8:18 lol forgot I was halfway through the episode 10:27 She was in a sketchbook. Out of the reactions i've seen so far, exactly 1 person actually recognized her and was excited 12:28 (and Husk makes a drink for AD before he comes over) 15:40 Deflecting -- though people sometimes are like "he wasn't listening" like uhh? 15:47 HECKING THANK YOU 19:34 I just love when voices do the The raise-crack on higher note intervals
Fun fact: Lucifer didn't just know razzle and dazzle (charlies little goat pets), but according to Vivziepop herself in an older interview, the two were once plushies for Charlie, that lucifer turnt alive for her to watch over her And now i just need them as cute little plushies
Just a little further context for the rest of the show, Lucifer technically only oversees sinners and not hell born demons. One of the conditions for the extermination was lucifer isn’t allowed to interfere *but* the angels aren’t allowed to kill/injure hellborn.
I don’t know if anyone has mentioned this yet but! A lot of your questions would be answered if you watched the Pilot. A lot of set up was established in it and happens before the show
About Lucifer. He was cast out from heaven for giveing humanity free will. From now on he has to see only the bad in souls. Kinda like a curse. That is why he got depressed and basicly shut himself in.
At first I thought I would hate Mimzy's character, but Sarah Stiles (Spinel from Steven Universe) is SO GOOD at voicing annoying characters in such a perfectly entertaining way
3:45 honestly im really glad you caught that so many reactors miss it even though it says so much about their relationship and how they both feel like the other doesn't want anything to do with them
Someone made a comment on one of the other videos that you can catch Lucifer looking for Vaggie's halo the whole time when he meets her. That's why he was nervous. But you can also see, at the end, he gives her a very understanding look and smile. ❤
"Heaven has done something to [Lucifer], I guess?" - You mean the part where he was cast out of Heaven and condemned to eternity in Hell for what Heaven percieved as the 'crime' of giving the fruit of knowledge, and subsequently free will, to humans. That's what Heaven did to Lucifer.
8:31 I saw a comment saying lucifer looks up looking for the halo in that scene and looks with the expresion of: Ou men, another fallen angel, just like me!
Viv has mentioned that the duckies are a Veggie Tales reference where they tell the story of David and Bathsheba but instead of wives, the king collects duckies.
1:29 Yes, Charlie and Vaggie are actually a couple and this episode confirms it 2:26 Kind of. All Lucifer did was sign an agreement with Heaven to spare all hellborne from the exorcist's blades 6:47 The apple is all over his outfit, not just the staff. Remember his deal with giving the apple to Eve and stuff? We don't know who's holding Alastor's leash yet. There are theories but nothing concrete 19:46 Yeah, they banished him and in doing so prevented him from seeing the good things mankind did, he only sees the evil because Hell is where all the evil ones go. He can't go back to heaven so he can't see the good people. 21:06 Yes, since the dawn of time Next episode, best character arrives
Mimzy is someone that Alastor actually considers a friend. He's also far more forgiving to women, as he's quite the Mama's Boy. He prefers the company of women, because of that. Additionally, Alastor made sure the say that he couldn't have Mimzy's BS "at the hotel," specifically. He wasn't saying for her to stop relying on him to get her out of things, but not to bring those things to the hotel. He likely enjoys when she brings chaos, so that he gets to flex, and "let off steam."
Love how Mat is like 'so heaven did something to lucifer?' 'He think talking to heaven is a bad idea??' 'Why can't he go? Is he banned or something????' 😂😅.... like my dude lucifer is a fallen angel, whole first 3 mins of the first ep.... To answer ALL your questions -Yes
It's theorized that alastot spond in hell as powerful as it was because of the amount of people that he killed. It's believed that has been universe that if you are to kill a human soul and then go to hell, you then own that soul or spawn with more power. It was also confirmed that really really evil people that orchestrate the murder is a millions, usually end up in a place outside of the reaches of hell because they're just to evil
You will never be able to guess despite hearing all the songs! Which is the best part of the show, methinks. Can't wait for you to hear another song you missed soon though!
Yeah, I'm convinced the only reason Alastor even tried to be as much of a nuisance to Lucifer as he was is that he knows he's part of Charlie's project, and he knows Lucifer won't actively jeopardize something Charlie cares so deeply about, because he is absolutely not a match for Lucifer in terms of power
07:07 well if you think of it from the pov that Lucifer hangs around since the start of creation and Al died in the 1930's it has to be an eyewink for Lucifer since his passing and him getting a reputation in hell. Dude was probably off creating rubber duckys the entire 80 years lmao
Just to clear up some things about Lucifer without spoilers! He's an fallen angel. He's no allowed back into Heaven. He was casted out because of giving humaniity free will. It hurt him and he doesn't want to see Charlie hurt for having dreams like he did. If you recall the story from Episode 1 Lucifer lost his will to dream due to only seeing the bad things humanity had to offer from their free will. He doesn't involve himself with Sinners. Design wise he's in contrast with everyone in hell with his overall pure white angelic appearance while everyone is more blacks/reds. He still holds Heaven pretty high and sees himself better than the Sinners. Even talking with Charlie when he talks about the sinners he winces. He doesn't get involved with their politics of Overlords and since the separation with Lilith seems to keep to his workshop making ducks out of depression and boredom. Hell is Charlie's home while it's Lucifer's prison. He's a ruler of a something he never wanted. He wants to connect with Charlie but doesn't think she needs him or doesn't think she likes him. Charlie feeling the same way in return. In the song she's taken away by her mom and we're not sure how long the two have been separated/divided but they once were a happy family. Lucifer also implies doing something similar to Charlie's hotel in the song and puts the comment while the hotel is being attacked into better sense of hurt. In short, Lucifer is a shell of his former self. Bits of him peak through but he's a traumatized depressed man who's been burned and is scared of Charlie suffering the way he did.
"Alastor looks like a giant!" Well, Alastor is almost 7 feet tall (excluding ears) if that helps. Edit: From what I've seen, Lucifer still has some holdovers from his time in Heaven, which is why he acts a bit funny when Charlie introduces Vaggie as her girlfriend.
Hey Mathew! Just to let you know Lucifer has the same voice actor as Varian in tangled the series. He was in songs: Nothing left to lose, I ill make you proud, Ready as i'll ever be
what I find interesting is the type of sin the Overlords fall under is shown in the chains they manifest. Alastor has a green chain, he owns the gamblers soul (greed). Valentino's chain is red/pink and obviously Valentino is under the lust sin. Such a great little detail and like hidden key.
Keep in mind, Heaven didn't like, and outright refused Lucifer's ideas for humanity, and also that, as part of him being in Hell, he's only shown the the wickedness and cruelty of humanity, none of the good, which broke his will to dream - paraphrasing from the opening of episode one. So I think that colors a lot of his perspective on both Heaven and Sinners.
Alastor was originally trying to pit himself as Charlie’s boyfriend, you can tell, because he goes from being touchy to coddling her in a fatherly way. He clearly was only doing any of what he did to piss Lucifer off in any case. Charlie is too naïve to realize.
Lucifer is my fav character of the show (followed very closely and maybe even fighting for first-Angel Dust) I am extremely biased to loving Lucifer though because he’s voiced by Jeremy Jordan who voiced Varian in the Tangeld animated show and I loved him (I KNEW I’d love him when I knew that…but I loved him even more than I thought I would.) He’s so adorable I love him so much!!!!
So Lucifer's whole thing is that he used to be an angel but the other angels deemed his creativity as "too dangerous" so they banished him to Hell. He has LITERALLY never seen the good that came out of him gifting humanity free will (hence his pessimism).
just some info: Sinners are people who died on Earth and came to hell Demons are people born in hell Same for 'Winners' (what Adam calls them) and Angels in Heaven
"So, Heaven has done something to him, i guess ?" Yes... You are actually looking at it all the time. His punishment for giving humanity "free will" is Hell itself. They banished him from heaven, locked him into Hell, and now Lucifer only gets the see the worst of what came from his decision to grant humanity free will. Honestly, its not at all suprising that Lucifer is so depressed.
I suspect that Lucifer made a deal with Heaven that if he didn't fight the annual exterminations, they wouldn't attack the actual Hellborne - primarily his daughter - just the "Sinners" dead humans).
im still obsessed with protecting sir pentious

He has no desire to know them because he thinks they're just the worst, most disgusting and degenerate people around. He's also the most powerful angel that we've been introduced to.
He could probably erase Alastor by snapping his finger. It's kinda like if I asked you if you knew who the queen bee was in the beehive in your backyard. To the other bees, she's probably extremely important and famous but to you, your first thought would be "Wait, I have a beehive in my backyard?"
WAIT I HAVE A BEEHIVE IN MY BACKYARD
brilliant analogy
In the pilot, Carmilla, Zestial, and (iirc) the Dinosaur girl were with Lucifer.
Ironically one of the few Overlords that Lucifer is probably aware of is Vox purely because he has a phone and has presumably watched TV at some point
@@LiMe251pilot isn't canon
“Heaven has done something to him.. I guess” Yeah only cast him out down to hell where he could never see the good of humanity ever again for giving humanity free will, nothing big
this episode could have been called "Alastor is very insecure about how he is viewed" xD
Also remember Lucifer as a punishment wasnt allowed to see the good of humans, just the worst of the worst. Its easy to not care when you only ever see the bad in something
+1 on the Alastor aspect, he hates when people don't know of him, and uses the inverse (him not knowing of someone else) as an insult.
i saw someone else call it the “episode where alastor took everything personally” 🤣
I feel like Alastor hates Lucifer because he is so much stronger than him. He is one of the few people he cannot intimidate or play with with his sheer strenght. So he tries to bother him in another way: "Stealing" Charlie aways from him.
Could also just be from the fact that Lucifer pretty much did just ditch his child when he was depressed as balls
He likes screwing with people no matter how powerful they are
I saw this exact same comment from you on Elijah's and her mom's reaction to this episode 💀
@@tophat_yiga_footsoldierTHAT’S WHERE I SAW IT I REMEMBER THAT

"I hope Vaggie can teach charlie to not be so trusting." 💀
💀💀💀
Welp- 😂
Lucifer's voice gotta be one of the best in the entire s1 of the show
I love Jeremy Jordan!!
He is so freaking good. I love this and the finally so much.
All hail Jeremy Jordan🛐
James Monroe Iglehart and Keith David tho...
@@ARandomEliatrope yes they have outstanding performances too, I'm just saying Jeremy has one of the best voices in the show
Just absolutely love how Alastor absolutely CONFUSES the entire fandom lmaoo. Is he evil? I wanna rip open his brain just to see what's in his head-
Its what makes his breakdown sooo good. Saw that one post saying it was the first time he sang something in a tune that he himself led, unlike all the duets. He's showing us a glimpse underneath it all and it makes the scene all the more impactful.
I think it has something to do with his deal, I don't think Lillth has him on a leash though.
I love your comment ^w^ you couldn't have said it any better.
If you remember in episode 1 when charlie read the story of lucifer and lilith, she said that being cast down to hell made it to where lucifer would only be shown the bad side of humanity. So it makes sense that he wouldnt have much of any faith in sinners at this point
Mathew: Did heaven do something to Lucifer?..
No way he just asked that 😂😂
Mathew: "I guess heaven did something to him?"
Well, yeah, you know casting him down to hell forever and banishing him from heaven and blaming him for all of the evil in the world is just a small thing
I love how Lucifer’s voice is a lot more sweeter in more than anything and every other song he sings he’s all peppy and his voice different
yeah it feels like in more than anything he's being genuine and his facade is gone the mask has been dropped unlike in his first song where it felt like he was overdoing it/putting in extra effort to be able to sound more fun/what he thinks would make him sound better
Agreed! It’s my favorite song of the soundtrack
According to Charlie "We never really talk. he calls...sometimes, but only when he's bored or he needs something!"
This makes it sound like Lucifer issn't interested in Charlie at all, feeling that she is just a convenient person to talk to or run errands to him.
Sure you can make the claim that Charlie's story is just a story, but within the actual fiction of the show nothing yet contradicts this idea.
i have noticed a lot of people that do that haha forget basically how hell was created and the reasons why hahaa
Lucifer is definitely one of my favorite characters, he’s just so surprisingly goofy and awkward, also his duck obsession is such a mood.
I feel like someone needs to let him know about the Devil Duckies of the early 2000s. I loved those things.
The way Lucifer dissociates constantly when Charlie is trying to talk to him is honestly the most accurate depiction of neurodivergent coded depression I think I've ever seen, and it makes me kind of sad when people don't realise how bad this guy's depression is
Alastor curses in the show for the first time, and he does it directly at the King of Hell himself. He’s got balls of steel.
“Is he banned or something?!” Well yes. He is Lucifer. 😅
The sad part of all this is that Lucifer never got to see the good that his gift to humanity did so it makes sense that he was so dismissive of Charlie's ideas. But I love that he turned around for his daughter because she reminded him so much of himself 💜💜
"I think heaven has done something to him" uuuhh yes punish him and send him to hell??? 😭😭😭 i laughed out loud when he said that
9:45 "So much reminds me of the Genie song from Aladdin" GREAT! That's actually what Lucifer's actor was shooting for!
"So Heaven has done something to him?"
They sent him to hell
Fun Easter egg- the song that starts playing after Alastor threatened Husk is part of an Alastor fan song The Living Tombstone made when the pilot was released.
"Alastor's Game"? I thought it sounded familiar!
The VA who played mimzy also played spinel from Steven Universe!!
Lucifer is the best little dude I’ve seen in the show, him being one of the only little dudes
the way i can fr recite his entire patreon plug 💀💀
i'll switch it up just to keep u on ur toes
:O
I love Mimzy's entrance. ❤ The VA who voices Mimzy also played Spinel in Steven Universe: The Movie, and let's face it. "Other Friends" (which was definitely referenced) also has "Never Had a Friend Like Me" inspiration. But even her cameo in the pilot was precious as I always noticed its nod to the musical "Annie." Her lore is interesting.
"Hells greatest dad" is actually inspired by "friend like me" from aladdin
Ooh boy… Husk’s line in Loser, Baby seems to make a lot more sense now
“There was a time I thought that no one could relate to the gruesome ways in which I’m damaged”
I love his voice so much 💙
ALL HAIL JEREMY JORDAN FR🛐🛐
Lucifer is like Prometheus, he gave humanity the greatest gift and was punished for it. And his punishment was to only get the worst of humanity. He’s a dreamer who’s dreams we’re crushed in the worst way. He lost his original family then when Lilith left he lost his second family.
I also note that Alastor in the pilot describes how he wants to help only to watch sinners fail, he a sadistic mf
8:18 lol forgot I was halfway through the episode
10:27 She was in a sketchbook.
Out of the reactions i've seen so far, exactly 1 person actually recognized her and was excited
12:28 (and Husk makes a drink for AD before he comes over)
15:40 Deflecting -- though people sometimes are like "he wasn't listening" like uhh?
15:47 HECKING THANK YOU
19:34 I just love when voices do the
The raise-crack on higher note intervals
Watching Mathew try and decipher the plot of this series literally makes my day
The little goat things, Razzle (lighter) and Dazzle (darker) were created and brought to life by Lucifer to be playmates/bodyguards for Charlie.
why does it feel like mathew forgot the literal introduction to the series? like, the literal first 5 minutes of the show??
Fun fact: Lucifer didn't just know razzle and dazzle (charlies little goat pets), but according to Vivziepop herself in an older interview, the two were once plushies for Charlie, that lucifer turnt alive for her to watch over her
And now i just need them as cute little plushies
At first I thought I would hate Mimzy's character, but Sarah Stiles (Spinel from Steven Universe) is SO GOOD at voicing annoying characters in such a perfectly entertaining way
3:45 honestly im really glad you caught that so many reactors miss it even though it says so much about their relationship and how they both feel like the other doesn't want anything to do with them
Matthew forgot about the whole Eden thing I see, Lucifer loves his snake and apple motifs.
Someone made a comment on one of the other videos that you can catch Lucifer looking for Vaggie's halo the whole time when he meets her. That's why he was nervous. But you can also see, at the end, he gives her a very understanding look and smile. ❤
Lucifer is voiced by Jeremy Jordan who also voices Varian in Rapunzel's Tangled Adventure.
8:31
I saw a comment saying lucifer looks up looking for the halo in that scene and looks with the expresion of:
Ou men, another fallen angel, just like me!
Viv has mentioned that the duckies are a Veggie Tales reference where they tell the story of David and Bathsheba but instead of wives, the king collects duckies.
I fricken knew it
1:29 Yes, Charlie and Vaggie are actually a couple and this episode confirms it
2:26 Kind of. All Lucifer did was sign an agreement with Heaven to spare all hellborne from the exorcist's blades
6:47 The apple is all over his outfit, not just the staff. Remember his deal with giving the apple to Eve and stuff?
We don't know who's holding Alastor's leash yet. There are theories but nothing concrete
19:46 Yeah, they banished him and in doing so prevented him from seeing the good things mankind did, he only sees the evil because Hell is where all the evil ones go. He can't go back to heaven so he can't see the good people.
21:06 Yes, since the dawn of time
Next episode, best character arrives
Mimzy is someone that Alastor actually considers a friend. He's also far more forgiving to women, as he's quite the Mama's Boy. He prefers the company of women, because of that. Additionally, Alastor made sure the say that he couldn't have Mimzy's BS "at the hotel," specifically. He wasn't saying for her to stop relying on him to get her out of things, but not to bring those things to the hotel. He likely enjoys when she brings chaos, so that he gets to flex, and "let off steam."
For some reason "take that depression" is a line I quote a lot
Lucifer, the first fallen angel, cast out from heaven because of the whole serpent thing in most stories.
Mat: "So heaven has done smth to him (Lucifer) i guess?"
Yeah well no shit 😅
Lucifer:Who are you?
Alastor:And I took that personally.
>:3.
3:45 THANK YOU! I've always tried to point that out to people who blame Lucifer for them not being close!
He was in songs: Nothing left to lose, I ill make you proud, Ready as i'll ever be
4:17 perfect way to greet ur daughter
what I find interesting is the type of sin the Overlords fall under is shown in the chains they manifest.
Did ya notice Lucifer voice actor is varien from the tangled series
Alastor was originally trying to pit himself as Charlie’s boyfriend, you can tell, because he goes from being touchy to coddling her in a fatherly way. He clearly was only doing any of what he did to piss Lucifer off in any case. Charlie is too naïve to realize.
Lucifer's voiced by Jeremy Jordan too, so same VA as Varian from Tangled the Series
The fact that you managed to pull me away from my favourite character ai bot should be an honour, goddamnit.
Lucifer is my fav character of the show (followed very closely and maybe even fighting for first-Angel Dust)
I am extremely biased to loving Lucifer though because he’s voiced by Jeremy Jordan who voiced Varian in the Tangeld animated show and I loved him (I KNEW I’d love him when I knew that…but I loved him even more than I thought I would.) He’s so adorable I love him so much!!!!
So Lucifer's whole thing is that he used to be an angel but the other angels deemed his creativity as "too dangerous" so they banished him to Hell. He has LITERALLY never seen the good that came out of him gifting humanity free will (hence his pessimism).
I knew these actors were going to be amazing cuz of their broadway performances, yet I was still blown away by their voice acting!
just some info:
Sinners are people who died on Earth and came to hell
Demons are people born in hell
Same for 'Winners' (what Adam calls them) and Angels in Heaven
Actually, "Demons" are just people in hell in general, Sinners are a type of Demon. People born in hell are called Hellborns.
"So, Heaven has done something to him, i guess ?"
Yes...
I suspect that Lucifer made a deal with Heaven that if he didn't fight the annual exterminations, they wouldn't attack the actual Hellborne - primarily his daughter - just the "Sinners" dead humans).
well ...
spoilers
the angels did kill one or two of the egg bois in the finale, who I'm pretty sure are hellborns like charlie ? so ..
@@satiramalek2572 How is it a spoiler (well, it is now)? Lute literally said there was a deal not to kill Hellborne in the very first episode.

lucifer is jeremy jorden who is varian in tangeled, he sung im ready for this, and he was light in the death note musical
9:42 you're spot on! This song is inspired by Aladin. I think they even paid for the idea to disney or smth just to use the references
