Dude that was so great. Totally gonna teach myself some of those moves (there's a RUclips channel called SpintronixGuard that does amazing tutorials. I just taught myself the J-Toss/Drop spin toss with them). Amazing job, guard!
To everyone with constructive criticism, it's greatly appreciated...but you have to realize that half of these girls were rookies, and getting them to simply toss was a challenge. This was early in band camp, and free hands were the least of our worries. Don't worry, they still swept best guard at every invitational...so thanks, but no thanks. :)
Hey Alyssa, This was actually the second day of their camp. Over half the girls didn't know how to even spin let alone do proper drop spins. I choreographed this warm up routine and they all learned it in one day and had it THIS clean by the second day. Reminder, Most of these girls didn't even know how to spin prior to the camp. So yes, some aren't spinning by their belly button, however most are. (When recording this video the angle is hard to see but most are spinning at waste level) Thanks!
Awesome! Watch the free hands though and the drop spins should be just above the hips but below the belly button at your spin spot. Great job at getting sails out! Squeezing will really help the small wobbly motions on the drop spins :)
So... I'll just say, I LOVE irony. Halfway through watching this video for the umpteenth time, I looked down and noticed the "Flag As Inappropriate" button... I almost died. X-)
Wow I can't believe that I choreographed this nearly two years ago. I just noticed the amount of views this video has! Awesome! Haha and thanks everyone for the positive feedback! I was so proud of my girls after the fourth day of camp. They looked amazing by the end of the season. If anyone needs a choreographer or guard instructor hit me up!
I thought you guys did amazing and I hope to be that great when summer and fall come back around. I'm going to be a captain after only 2 season of doing color guard so please please if you have any pointers you could give me and my co-captain please share! You guys did great!!!
I love this warm up we do 8 on right an left 16 (right, left) 32 (right, left) 64 (right, left) then 100( right, left) I'v done this for 4 years now I could do it in my sleep! I love color guard it's my life!!
we tape down our bolts and by the end of band camp you can hear them in our pracitce flag we even have the tridtion of making a giant tape ball for each senior and we all sign it for them
This looks great! I do have question though, and don't make fun of me for asking it. Why do your poles rattle and how do you make them do that? If anyone could answer that'd be awesome :) Thanks!
very good!!! this was in august and i am sure they have gotten better but try working on those free hands. those are very important. the next important this is the way their body is facing and if they are sitting into their pelvis. It is very common but working on it makes you look to much better!! on a side note, with a guard this good, how are you so small? anyway, hope this was helpful!!!
I was thinking about buying a flagpole online so I can spin again, but I cant remember how tall the poles were. I have my eye on a 6ft pole, but based on what they look like here, they look 5 feet. Can anyone tell me which is the best one to use. I am a tall girl, im 5' 10, so I thought maybe 6ft, would be ok.
Being on isn't a problem but there are little details like being by the belly button, being TIGHT, POINTING your toes, SMILING, HEAD UP, etc.. that need to be fixed. That tightness is a big deal, otherwise you're being sloppy.
chris walton I’m actually a guy! And I would rather compliment them on actually attempting to toss the flag rather than not even making an attempt. And saying anything negative would not have helped! Many of these girls learned this routine in one day, and have never actually touched a flag. So it was a major improvement for never touching a flag before.
can anybody give me some tips for colorguard? I have heard theres lots of dancing involved, but is that true? Im not a dancer but want to get into colorguard, so if i cant dance, can i still get on colorguard?
Don't drastically change directions. it would clean it up a lot. like your show work, your flag and body warm-up should flow together. Also, there are a lot of height variations on those tosses. check free arms and release points. and also make sure they don't move under there tosses. they should think about pressing their heels into the ground. speaking of feet, there is no such thing as a 1.5 position. either its closed in 1st or open in 2nd. no in between.
Wow, is this a whole guard? Mine has 67 girls:) marching band of 300+! GO WILLIAM MASON HIGH SCHOOL! but seriously though that's a good idea for a warm up routine:) imma talk to my instructor about it!
Holy free hands batman!!! Make sure you fix that. Also make sure you all bring your hands down and catch the horizontal below (not above) your head-- usually around the waist or chest depending on the instructor.
I know everyone is saying good job getting sails out, but something even better to work on, not getting them at all! Spin right at your belly button, and squeeze when you spin! :)
were 5th grades don't know to toss and begginer color guard's and we can do this stuff and the begginer toss the begginer toss were you toss it and fell lmaoo
your hand positions are different... especially when you perform a carve, some are on the bottom marker tape, but some are on the butt.. watch out.. when you get a good guard thats together,.. the judges start to look even closer.
Lol, I twirl. We neeeeeeeeeeeeever twirl that slow.. My coach would have made us drop if we did the routine like this. Lol I guess it depends on who you are and who's teaching you
lmao I wish my guard instructor complimented us like this 😂😂😂😂 I don't think I've heard "great job" all season.... maybe "that was better" but
SAME!!!
Seneca Hill thank you! I love giving back positive feedback! I miss instructing guard! Glad you like my instructing! Thanks!
lmao same all i’ve heard is “GUARD THAT SUCKED”
GIRL SAME !!!!WE EVEN WON STATE CHAMPIONSHIPS AND STILL
People commenting on this video are so rude. For all they know, this might be their first week on the exercise.
tape the weights in please! The sound is because the weights are hitting the pole because they aren't secure enough.
Dude that was so great. Totally gonna teach myself some of those moves (there's a RUclips channel called SpintronixGuard that does amazing tutorials. I just taught myself the J-Toss/Drop spin toss with them). Amazing job, guard!
I'm trying out for this this year hope I make the team
@min SHOOKgi same I’m trying out this year
Honestly just have fun with it,I’m trying out this year as well or should I say trying out your sign up you’re automatically in
This group does great fixing sails quickly :) good job.

Gamin JAYDA NOWW same this is also my first year! How is it so far?
Ruby i’m in my first year right now
Oop now it’s my first year
thank you for posting this!!! I was in guard in highschool. I'm deciding to purchase my own set so I can practice again for fun.
Gaurd really is one of the best things you can get involved in while in high school
I love this warm up! I can't wait to show my guard this video! Great job on counting together. Just watch those free hands :)
You guy are great! I'm auditioning for gigs school guard tonight. I love you guys lol

I like this warm up routine!
Great! I'm on the colorguard team on my high school, not this school.
me too c: i hope the rest of highschool doesnt go as boring as this year
I got the chills multiple times! GREAT!
Good rhythm! The toss at the end was really cool!
Thanks for this! I'm leading the color guard for my university matching band next year and this will be helpful. :)
Hi, just wondered if a could please use this video for a music video I am making? Not sure how to message you privately?
This is their second day?? That's so awesome!
I joined Color Guard today.....I am looking forward to the rest of highschool :D
I thought you guys did amazing and I hope to be that great when summer and fall come back around. I'm going to be a captain after only 2 season of doing color guard so please please if you have any pointers you could give me and my co-captain please share! You guys did great!!!
I like it I'm trying out for colors guard next year hope I make it looks like fun
It really is fun! Hope you enjoy being in colorguard when you join. :)
Me too, I'm trying out next week for my freshman year of high school.. Go HAUGHTON BUCS!
For our warm ups we do 3 right spins of 8 holt 8 while the letters do something
I love this warm up we do 8 on right an left 16 (right, left) 32 (right, left) 64 (right, left) then 100( right, left) I'v done this for 4 years now I could do it in my sleep! I love color guard it's my life!!
:O I've never seen a guard spin wrist over wrist. We always teach to grab the flag underneath, but either works as long as it's uniform!
For the rolling I do it too!
I am in color guard for Muskogee and my coaches friend said try gripping harder...
Cause your rolling your wrists
this routine looks so confusing !
YAS werk them basics friends!!! Your team is as good as your technique!!! ❤️
we tape down our bolts and by the end of band camp you can hear them in our pracitce flag we even have the tridtion of making a giant tape ball for each senior and we all sign it for them
this is a warm out routine? i'm speechless, my team can't even do half of this!!
This looks great! I do have question though, and don't make fun of me for asking it. Why do your poles rattle and how do you make them do that? If anyone could answer that'd be awesome :) Thanks!
Can someone tell me the names of the last two spins in this video? My instructor hasn't taught us that yet, but I would love to learn it for my final.
very good!!! this was in august and i am sure they have gotten better but try working on those free hands. those are very important. the next important this is the way their body is facing and if they are sitting into their pelvis. My question is why did she complement them on the one toss where they had the most drops
chris walton I’m actually a guy! And I would rather compliment them on actually attempting to toss the flag rather than not even making an attempt. And saying anything negative would not have helped! Many of these girls learned this routine in one day, and have never actually touched a flag. So it was a major improvement for never touching a flag before.
I believe 6 ft's are standard for highschool and up, but that might depend on your area... I recommend 6ft.
Wow, your coach would drop you for a warm up routine? That's intense.
I think imma try out for my color guard team it looks fun
can anybody give me some tips for colorguard? I have heard theres lots of dancing involved, but is that true? Im not a dancer but want to get into colorguard, so if i cant dance, can i still get on colorguard?
What is the toss you do after the drop spins?
yea, i think all guards do that, we have to do it
como se llama la cancion de fondo?
this looks awesome! but the bolts clinking are really annoying
nope, you're absolutely right. i've spun at the belly button for high school and college guard. spinning up at your chest causes carpel tunnel
Where do u get your flags poles?
amazing
That was great
Where do you guys get your poles from?
Why do all the colorguard warm up routines I've seen do a Bruno mars song? Haha mine does grenade!
Wow, is this a whole guard? Mine has 67 girls:) marching band of 300+! GO WILLIAM MASON HIGH SCHOOL! but seriously though that's a good idea for a warm up routine:) imma talk to my instructor about it!
How tall is the flag pole?
After the drop spins....what is the name of that move?
+Melinda Ward Awesome job!
the flourish like the this with both hands? our guard calls them flourishes but other guards have different names for moves
Butterflies
Oh god the parallels
9 people, not bad.. Keep up the good work
Holy free hands batman!!! Make sure you fix that. Also make sure you all bring your hands down and catch the horizontal below (not above) your head-- usually around the waist or chest depending on the instructor.
Those helicopter tosses!^_^ love it!!
what size of pole do you think is best?
5'5
That was epic! :D
it is supposed to be at your belly button :) here they seem to be doing it at what my guard calls your "third belly button"
Do they have color guard for middle schoolers
Yes! My school starts colorguard in 7th grade and I can't wait to start next year!!
Am I on the only squad that does wrist over wrist when they spin
No, our guard does it too.
I know everyone is saying good job getting sails out, but something even better to work on, not getting them at all! Spin right at your belly button, and squeeze when you spin! :)
Work on double time spinning. And try to toss and the same count, then catch on the same count.
Tape your bolts. Rattling bolts are causing that shaking sound.
Just saying, but no one is spinning by their bellybutton... Isnt that ur supposed to do it? Or is that just my guard?
My whole field season this year is Bruno Mars
My school's theme is Funky Revolution, but idk about next year.
I love that purple flag that girl got in the back
Quite different from or warm up but I like it
It changes for every guard. some people do it higher than others. But yea my guard tries to stay around the belly button.
Dang y'all are better than east Hamilton hurricanes color guard y'all go girls
were 5th grades don't know to toss and begginer color guard's and we can do this stuff and the begginer toss the begginer toss were you toss it and fell lmaoo
Those were square cones
They're supposed to be spinning down by their belly button. I do color guard.
You're supposed to, it's supposed to by the belly button.
The techniques look really good! And yes they should be at their bellybutton.
Boy I'm in a pickle! Dislocated my finger and tomorrow's color guard try outs:/
your hand positions are different... especially when you perform a carve, some are on the bottom marker tape, but some are on the butt.. watch out.. when you get a good guard thats together,.. the judges start to look even closer.
OMG That is amazingly funny. hahaha
My guard does it too. Haha no worries, pretty sure that's how it's supposed to be. They were probably concentrating on what they were doing.
those free handsss.. eeeek. looks like trex arms
No we do that in my squad. :-)
i am doing color guard!!
Mine too
watch those free hands
Lol, I twirl. We neeeeeeeeeeeeever twirl that slow.. My coach would have made us drop if we did the routine like this. Lol I guess it depends on who you are and who's teaching you
WATCH UR FREE ARMS - especially girl in the front in the blue- they are relle bad on the parllel-- BOTH arms down to ur side!!
They are a toss/spin combo that I created myself. :) Inbox me.
My colorguard is as epic as that
Damn! Woman chill out!
free hands!!!
Yall probably hate that song now. We always had to spin to cotten eye joe for part of our warm up. I hate that song now
Thats what my guard does to so ya
