    I suffered from primary dysmenorrhoea for years, right from the time I started to get my periods. Most people said it gets better after you get married, which is a euphemism for becoming sexually active. But I was too young to understand then and thought it to be silly. It did nothing to help the terrible pain which sometimes made me cry, toss around in bed and stay bedridden for the entire day.I coped with it with pain medication specialised for dysmenorrhoea, a hot meal and sleep. Thankfully, it did get better over the years and it didn't cause any fertility problems.

    Actually menstrual pain and dysmenorrhea are the things that are never given importance in our society as we women are too shy and stereotyped to talk about our own problems. I am a patient of dysmenorrhea since I was 15 and my mother always tells me not to scream much and behave awkward around my father and elder brother on the first day of my periods, because that is considered to be a shameless act. My female relatives advise me that I should not take 'dysmen' ( the painkiller) and according to them it is a 'normal feminine disease ', although i suffer from terrible pain, headache and nausea. I remember, my ex best friend (female) saying one day, during a fight "you are an attention seeker and that is why you fake illness during your periods... there is no such thing!". She said that because she saw me shivering from pain on the class as my periods began without any notice. Even, one male gynecologist called me 'weak' and 'fragile' because in his opinions, I should be able to go through this as I am a female being and one day I have to be pregnant and give birth to children. Really, we are still so much underrated!

    *Fact:* Primary Dysmenorrhea is not an issue with the woman's body structure, it is because of the increased myometrial contraction which is because of the release of PGF-2alpha (produced in response to vasoconstriction from decreased progesterone every month). This is absolutely normal and needs evaluation only if the pain is not getting relieved with painkillers and other medications. It is seen in young females particularly in late teens and in the 20s.
    Secondary dysmenorrhea on the other hand is because of a pelvic pathology, seen in women in mostly in the age grp 30s and later. It is pathological and needs consultation with a doctor.

    I remember teaching in school and a 13 year old girl had a hideous dysmenorrhea attack that began sometime in the beginning of the class. Within 10 minutes the girl withered as an epileptic patient, lying on the bench flat and rolling hither to tither. It became a scene as the whole class was worried. She cried bitterly. The school nurse was called. All the classes next to mine were disrupted and the girl was rushed to the hospital. Period pains are real. Most women are lucky enough tp have just stomach pains. For few, its kind of an embarrassing attack of epilepsy.

    Swaddle you'll missed to mention that in many cases, despite "hot water baths" and "pain pills", women may still suffer. Sometimes women try everything from home remedies to over the counter pills to consulting doctors and are still left to just deal with the pain, because there's no fool proof way of "dealing with it" yet. Dysmennorrhea especially primary often goes undiagnosed and brushed under the carpet even by gynaecologists.
    This video needs more research. 😅but a good effort in the right direction

    • @aparajitayograj
      @aparajitayograj 4 года назад +4

      It doesn't get undiagnosed. People don't know what it is. It is the physiology of the woman that causes her pain. And this pain gets relieved by medicines, if you consult the right person. The only pain that has no painkiller is the labor pain.

      @@aparajitayograj hi, my gf has this and she's already had surgery once and the doctors have told her that it will come back and be aware about any pain. Her gynaecologist has suggested birth control as a preventive measure but that has its own health issues.

    • @aparajitayograj
      @aparajitayograj 4 года назад +4

      @@mihirvelapure2258 I know it must be hard because of the severe pain, if you stay by her and take care of her it will get better. If she had a surgery before, and she is young, most likely a type of minimal invasive surgery would have been done on her (Like cauterization, Laser, Laparoscopic breakdown of adhesions, cystectomy, LUNA, something like that).
      Following the conservative surgery, recurrence rate is 10% at the end of 1 year and 25% at the end the 3 years. So there are majority chances that it will not recur. But a doctor can never tell to the patient that the future is all well, otherwise they will be blamed later on. So that is why they have said to beware of the pain. If in the least possibility she has pain, a second surgery can be done. And there is another alternative to repeat surgery, which is Mirena IUCD.
      As of the previous surgery, Mostly combined therapy is given along with surgery, that is surgery and drugs both are given. I don't know which treatment she has undertaken, but if she was put on drugs along with surgery, which further decrease the recurrence rate, the only side effect of the drugs is it delays pregnancy. So you don't have to worry much.
      Regarding whether to pursue birth control or not, that depends on the severity, the surgery undertaken, the age and much more. You can ask the doctor why she has been asked for birth control, or consult another doctor maybe. As of now, you don't need to worry much. Only if she would ever want to plan a baby in the future, there are various techniques nowadays for the fertility issues, including IUI, IVF, ICSI, etc, that can be dealt with when that situation arises.
      As of now, just take care of her, check for any symptoms of dysmenorrhea, abdominal pain, menorrhagia, etc. And if anything happens, consult the doctor.
      All the best. God bless both of you! Take care!
