    Better off with the flat pack Ridge Monkey Grilla which can use both butane or firewood.

      I personally haven't tried wood or charcoal in mine, but this is a copy and paste from the STOV website:
      Yes, you can use the STOV BBQ with small wood pieces and turn it into a small fire pit.
      You can also use charcoal but make sure that you use some protection, e.g., sand on the bottom of the bbq. Make sure not to use too much charcoal - charcoal burns a lot hotter than gas.

      That’s interesting. This could be a cue for you to try it with wood & post it. I should have added that the Grilla has not been certified for importation to Australia. To my knowledge this STOV would be the only camping bbq to run on both butane & wood allowed in Australia.
