The greatest honor of my life was meeting both Syd Mead, Futurist designer and had his three autographed concept art booklets and on a separate occasion Vangelis in LA after his one and only North American concert. He took photos with me and autographed the concept program. I had every one of his albums. Both were wonderful people, artists and created the future in visual and music. No one can surpass their creativity, they were originals and masters of their art. Blade Runner enthusiasm has been with me since seeing the first movie in 1982….Miss both of them.
The original film was a masterpiece. Best direction, best vfx, best acting.. and best music.. way ahead of its time... 2049.. was really good buy nothing compares to the original..
The original movie and any movie or music will always have its own beauty due to the relativity that led up to it. Now a days, the directors copy movies and use shadow relativity while using their own vision. The Copy Cats use Zeta Vision to create. They create from another person’s vision. .. … If a person can have a vision that is beyond the creator’s vision then the creation will surpass the beauty of the original, which rarely happens. One song that surpasses the original for me is “All along the watchtower” redone by Jimi Hendrix. And movie wise “Cape Fear.”
I love them both, but as someone who was born years and years and years after the original was released, I feel a lot more emotionally attached to 2049. Whether that's because the story is more compelling to me, or just because I got to watch it in theaters five times, who can say.
@@abtinb.f691 Vangelis passed away in 2022. He was still alive when BR2049 was released, so I wish he would have been in charge of the song as a posthumous work.
The original was mind blowing. Science fiction work of art on all items, story, music, film noir aspects, acting, cast. The movie has it all. The follow up, 2049 came close to that. A masterpeace science fiction saga in two parts. Who knows, maybe a third part, and bye the way, most of the film noir aspects are allready becoming reality looking at the decline of society and AI becoming more real and sophisticated.
The decline of society is right, though there's still no realistic AI. What corporate America calls AI is just generative AI, not actually artificial intelligence. And replicants were genetically engineered humans, not robots, anyway.
Impossible to decide! Both are such great movies, still from viewing the older one with "today's eyes" its a masterpiece - the soundtrack, the environment, the atmosphere, the ambience they both have are beyond humanity.
I lived a couple blocks from the Bradbury building for over a year before I realized what it was. You can also see it in the "tonight tonight" vid by Genesis. Inside is amazing
2049 was a good sequel to BR. Outside of very, very select few sequels that can surpass a classic original, 2049 kept true to the lore and backdrop while finding a way to tell its own story. It would be interesting to see a third film, so long as it continues to respect the lore. But it isn't craving it.
love 80s blade runner, man falls for a toaster. Love 2049, toaster tries to figure out if he's the chosen toaster. What saved the 80s blade runner was the visuals and music.
@eonodyssey Good video mate, my love for blade runner has been since I watched in the 80s, on vhs. Ridley Scott based the LA scape on the ici plant in red car, uk.
Nobody here is talking about how this movie score belonged to Johann Johannsson but they denied it then mysteriously died of cocaine OD and flu medication. I am scared hollywood did that to him. Getting to score for blade runner is absolutely huge, and the fact that hans zimmer wasnt originally chosen for it really means something was special about Johann. They said the soundtrack was "too experimental", wasnt it supposed to be??? Were they just scared people wouldnt like it because it wasnt made by hans zimmer then hired hans zimmer? Did they want to be safer with the soundtrack so they declined Johann for Hans??? I can never ever listen to this sound track or movie without thinking about Johann for every second of it. True Hollywood L. Johann was an up and coming legend in film scoring like Hans Zimmer, John Williams, and Vangelis (The original blade runner soundtrack artist), and never got to shine. Then he was working on Disneys next big film score, then passed away. Either they mixed cocaine with his medication intentionally, or he was really depressed about Blade Runner 2049 score being rejected. Horrible horrible backstory to the sound track of Blade Runner 2049...
Blade Runner is in my top 3 fav films of all times. Tried to watch the -49 sequel several times. Just can't get through it. I'm thinking the new Alien TV show will be even worse...
Honestly , I belong to the place where this environment is described. I focused so hard on it, that I could strongly feel all the sensations, like if I was living there. I’m strongly addicted to this stuff 🫶🏻
Errrm, hate to be picky about it, but it should be 2019 vs 2049, the years the films are set. To be even pickier about things, sure go ahead and call it 1982 vs 2017. But don't mix the dates of things.
Both movies were titled Blade Runner....the second of which was titled 2049.....1982 tells the people its the original movie....at least to me....appreciate the feedback.
In my opinion, they made a series of bad choices that robbed the movie of what it needed to be a worthy sequel. Most importantly, I think is the fact that they waited far, FAR, far too long to make it. Another is that Ridley Scott got cold feet & choose not to direct. Denis Villanueva may or may not be a fine director; but, he was never half the director that Ridley Scott, at least, was. This caused Evangelos Odysseas Papathanassiou, i.e., 'Vangelis', to back out of the sequel. And any possibility of that situation ever being smoothed over or rectified died with him; he died! So, they bungled it. They really screwed it up.

Oh, you lucky creature!!! Glad to read this, indeed you met two masters who were top notch in their fields. I also miss both of them very, very much. The first Blade Runner gives us the dream of enjoying Philip K. Dick, Mead and Vangelis on the first dystopian cyberpunk film. Please don't forget to well preserve your pictures with Vangelis, and of course all the signed stuff. Always remain loyal to your passions, they'll reward you immensely. I wish you all the best and a very long life, you Nexus 8!

I disagree. The insane scale shown in 2049 is second only to Dune.

Can’t say I disagree, but I’m really TRYING to love 2049…
Love both for different reasons.
1982 = music, villain, cast, atmosphere.
2049 = script, cinematography, nostalgia done right.
Yes....thanks for watching !
exactly, the music of Vangelis made the unique and great atmosphere of the first movie.

@@red-pu1siyes wonder if it was just old age that was the reason for this?
@@red-pu1si The music on BR2049 was absolutely marvelous too. Hans Zimmer and Benjamin Wallfisch did a great work there, like a tribute to Vangelis.
1982 was a masterful and formative piece of cinematic history.
I agree....Thanks for watching !
Life-impacting for many of us, especially in our formative years.
2049 was a decent movie, but no where near the Sci-fi classic of 1982. It was stunningly original and very well acted. Another Ridley Scott winner.
I agree....thanks for watching!

Adore both of these movies but 2049 probably more. 👍

I share the same sentiment.
Absolutely love it. Whoever wrote it is very good.

I love the original, it holds a special place in my heart, but I think 2049 was a masterpiece, at least I think so.

The Bradbury was a great filming location for those particular scenes....these days its all CGI which lacks character and vibe....thanks for watching.
1982 felt more noir like while 2049 feels way more Cyberpunk sci fi.

The more you pick apart the original Vangelis work the more it sound like gods work, he was being channeled.

Blade Runner was an aesthetic and new concept bludgeon.
Blade Runner 2049 was a reminder.

Considering how much tastes can change in 30 years, I'd expect 2049 to have a very different music - pirate polkatronic or some shit.
