Space is vast and filled with cosmic debris. Some of the remnants left over from the early formation of our solar system about 4.6 billion years ago are rocky formation known as asteroids. Brian Cox, Neil deGrasse Tyson, Bill Nye and others share their opinions about asteroids and what we can do to prevent one from colliding with Earth.
Nasa's DART mission will be the first demonstration of the kinetic impactor technique to change the motion of an asteroid in space. But what would happen if an Asteroid were to be heading towards the Earth? What would we do about it? How would we detect it? But most importantly, would we be able to stop it?

String of satellites orbiting each celestial body in our system that communicates in a chain back to earth. Satellites scan for outer space objects and notes their trajectory and speed. That is how we could see what's coming before it gets within the point of no return. Where it goes beyond the time frame of our response time.

@@Justin1337Sane Maybe we could create a railgun defense system to destroy the asteroid(s). Put eight in a circle and launch rounds at the asteroid(s)! Maybe one country could build a really large railgun cannon on an ice sheet that shoots cruise missiles at the asteroid!
@@Post_Stall_Maneuver try google this: Is Astroids Magnetic.. then try think wise.. if they are sticking to a magnet .. what could we do then.. most of the smaller astroids will burn out from entering the earth atmosphere.. but the dangerous ones is being tracked .. we just need more eyes up there for spotting new ones.. because space is freaking large :D and astroids / meteors / comets do have alot of resources we all could be benefitting from here on earth, like rare metal and such.. comets are not made of iron but somekind of ice .. but must astroids do have iron in them and they will stick to a magnet.. so instead of just blowing them up we could send some ready to go operations systems and robots that can move around in our solarsystem and be ready to slow them down before they are a real threat for impact.. and i kinda think thats whats spacex (nasa) is doing with all those launches.. just a logic guess and a little bit of hope.. a normal hardworking man on earth that aint working inside the space program can only guess at what they are doing.. if you want to do something and can do something.. if you have a good idea for planet defense then pass the idea out to the spacex / nasa / esa guys .. if they read it and the idea is well planned.. and you did a lot of research and have the time and money to help .. then go for it my friend.. Just remember if it is a good idea and you did your homework and such. someone will help you with your plan.. but a railgun on icesheet is a bad idea in my mind.. because what happens in the back end of a rocket when it launches up to space... ;D? what happens if you start fire on ice :D? it melts :D

Just nuking a asteroid sounds cool but it doesn't mean the course of that asteroid is now stopped. Because now instead of just 1 big asteroid coming our way it could be a dozen smaller pieces (but still dangerous pieces) from that asteroid is now coming our way still because of that nuke that was launched towards that 1 big asteroid, so in conclusion just nuking that asteroid even though it sounds cool I don't believe it's a good idea at all.
