When I was a TV and film puppeteer, I was one of only a handful of British puppeteers that used straightscan monitors. The vast majority preferred reverse scan (which was always a PITA especially if one of the reverse scan performers somehow found themselves using my straight scan mid scene, throwing them off). It’s been 20 years since I shifted over to CG animation and VFX but weirdly now finding myself missing the performance aspect of puppeteering. A lot.

I'm a little late to the field of puppetry, but i have found myself in a position of teaching Drama to 5th graders in China. Your channel has opened up a new avenue of content to be taught to my students. Every year we do an "English Day" at the school and I would love some advice on doing a show based on the "Yip Yip characters from Sesame Street. It may not necessarily be a live show, but it would be great if you could do a tutorial on how to make the characters and a demonstration on how a small group go 6th graders could perform a simple sketch. I have some ideas brewing, but have never once in my life made a puppet. I plan on spend all of my summer holiday figuring out and tinkering with it. Any help would be appreciated. Also, I wish you the best moving forward!

Hey there, Mr. Krutinger! I’m gonna try and do my own puppet videos and this is really helpful!
My one question is I hoped you could show how to key out the puppet rods, like how The Muppet movies do. Can you show how to do that?

It would be the same as keying out anything else. Make them green or blue or whatever color you want to key out.

Would that be possible with a plush like without a hand hole just holding the back would it work?

Do you have a video about direction? I'm finding that my jump cuts are terrible/jarring, but I'm not sure how to transition better.

Adam I’ve only see a few of your vids but wow, am I impressed. Great teaching, great techniques, great communication. 💥 I’ve recorded 30+ shows now and we created a community, write books as well as created products. The next step is to find partnerships. Any suggestions or tips for that?

    I have a question.
How exactly did you hook up the camera to a tv monitor? Because my dad has a canon EOS Rebel T7i camera and I wasn’t too sure how I can hook it up to a tv monitor or a pc monitor of any kind really.

do you have any tips/plans to make a video on what to make puppet videos ABOUT? this probably sounds lame but that’s the part i get stuck on; i love building and playing with puppets but i have trouble thinking up anything substantial to make videos on

Can you do this with zoom if you don't have access to a monitor setup ? or just your phone ?

I also use a Cannon Camera. What are the best lenses for puppet work?

Isn't there software... or camera settings, or whatever that you could set to mirror what the camera sees?
Also, what about VR headsets? Could those be an alternative to a monitor?
