  • From Mel Brooks' "Blazing Saddles," the scene before The Great Pie Fight. Dom DeLuise is trying to direct a group of queens in a musical number called "The French Mistake," but unfortunately for them their studio is right next to where "Blazing Saddles" is being filmed...

The joke is the implication that they are going to the cowboy's car for a quick sex act that is left to the imagination. Watch closely:
One of the dancing French Mistake "sissy marrys" and the cowboy outlaw go fighting through a tunnel water fall stage set. They come out with their arms around each other and head over to the guy's car. The fact that the car is parked by the Commissary is irrelevant.
("Commissary" is also a word that is commonly used today. It's not outdated or old fashioned.)

" ... and watch me fa****ts!" gets me every time. I post it on my feed at least once a month - no one EVER likes it. Part of it's greatness is Dom DeLuise's delivery - it's perfect ! ( I think everyone thought he was gay in real life - I know I did ) Our representation in film was very limited so maybe part of my fondness is tied into finally seeing my own kind. I was 9 and my very progressive, hippie-ish parents saw nothing inappropriate about taking me to see it ( or with them smoking a joint in the car before going in ) so I'm probably in the minority ( HA!) The spirit of the scene I think transcends the use of the offensiveness of the word. I used asterisks in my quote because these are different times and this is youtube - in fact I find all of the satirical "offensiveness" of this film has held up quite well considering it's been 46 years. A masterpiece imo

This is NOT the 4th wall being broken. The 4th wall is the barrier between the camera and the viewer. As a matter of fact, Harvey Korman breaks the 4th wall earlier in the picture when he addresses the camera, "and why am I asking you?" This is simply a huge, extended gag (and gags within gags) about movie making on studio lots in the era when Mel was a kid going to the movies when westerns and movies with huge choreographed dance numbers were popular at the box office and often times were being shot concurrently on neighboring sets.
