How fuc--- up that was. Poor Mikey. But he pulled it out in the end the same way he started in the beginning with Teddy KGB. He got him back the same way Teddy got him. Fab movie. Love poker tho.
A few years ago, I couldn't find this song anywhere. Looked at the European release of the album "August and Everything After" and there it was. Tried to buy it on iTunes, but they made me register as a new member in the European iTunes. So I did and I ordered the album and it never came. When I called to ask why, they said they couldn't ship that album to the USA. Go figure. My son finally found it and sent me the MP3 file. Too much technology for me. I'm still balancing my tone arm.
They say that Moneymakers win in the 2003 WSOP was the major turning point in the poker boom, then online poker but the Rounders movie was a close 3rd place.
Rounders came in 1998, Moneymaker won in 2003 like you said. I think without Rounders there wouldn't be a Moneymaker. You feel me? My opinion is that the film popularize this particular version of poker. That's why the prize pool got so large by 2003. Interest.
+LEFTaTIP The major turning point in poker was the tablecam which allowed people to see the hole cards. 2003 was the first year they had that. That's why Moneymaker's win was such a big deal. People could see the cards and follow the action.
+eddievangundy Agreed, I still think there's a poker boom even if Chris finishes runner-up to Farha, that king high bluff + Chad's sensationalizing commentary riled up the public, there was no turning back after that, and the Moneymaker bracelet just sparked the keg
TC, yes I know, it seems alot of ppl do not even know about it. Very weird to me as well, such a killer movie! Great actors. This great song perfect! "All this pleasure gets me high" Checkin' it up baby one more time for you, checkin' it up till the pot hits the sky!"
If you are young (let’s say under 25 or even 30), whilst I’m in no position to give advice, I would expect you may possibly find the following poignant: Chiefly, this song is VERY deep. First you get the reality check you never knew you needed: “Even the best years leave a lot to be desired and then they pass you by” Life is what happens while you’re busy making plans. Enjoy the present. Then you get some incredibly sage advice. It is hard to explain the value of this advice. Many only realise after it’s too late. “Turn your back on the people who draw the line. Put your faith in the answers that you can’t find. Hit the ground hard running down that highway line. Say a prayer for the ones you have left behind ‘cause all this pleasure gets them high.” Consider the two together. The next part may require two or three readings before it makes sense. Apologies. I’m not a wordsmith. This is the encouragement you never knew you needed because you never had the reality check you equally never knew you needed. It’s like an antidote to a poison you took, but the only time you take it is when you are also given the antidote immediately. It’s a conundrum. Are you better for having had the poison and having been cured or is ignorant bliss? Often it’s better not to overcomplicate things but equally nobody likes to feel like they were left out. Perhaps forewarned is forearmed. If you’re a young person reading this: 1) congratulations for making it this far through the comment 2) Do. Not. Waste. Your. Youth. 3) Recognise you’ll get what you’re gonna get when you’re gonna get it and just because you don’t have everything now, you MUST understand that future you (when you do have what you currently desire) will be envious of present you who possesses what money cannot buy: youth and time. I have absolutely no idea why I wrote all of this but if it lands with anybody, great. Otherwise, I welcome comments calling me a complete boomer even though I’m not that old 😂 Peace ✌️
Well…I AM a boomer and your comment has made me cry. I really can’t add anything because you’ve said it far better than I possibly could. It’s so well written…I keep reading it over and over. Let me just add this since I’m older than you…it gets easier. The memories that caused me almost crushing chest pain when facing the realization that there would never be any going back…are now pleasurable for me. I float happily and peacefully in those memories…no more agonizing over the choices I made…I just enjoy remembering them. I’m not sure if youth is wasted on the young. I’m not sure if I could do a better job of it if I had the chance to do it over again.
This song was not part of the original soundtrack. Was added to credits scene when Adam Duritz came through at last minute. Movie came out after 1st CC album, around when Recovering the Satellites was out. Since it is not part of any CC album, they borrowed a bit from it when they released the next album => Hangin' Around may well be its pop reincarnation
Every card player's theme song. This song is like impossible to find. As many poker player's that's out there, you would think this song would be easy to find.
Ed Norton gives props to Counting Crows for this track, if you watch the DVD with the commentary on all the way through the credits... Actually there are two different commentaries: one with a bunch of pro poker players talking some awesome shit the whole time, and the other is some directorial crew with Ed Norton. That one.

No I labored today to put up the correct lyrics for this version. See above.
Great Movie
i like this movie and nice song also
I love it and it.
Aces full, Mike.
How fuc--- up that was. Poor Mikey. But he pulled it out in the end the same way he started in the beginning with Teddy KGB. He got him back the same way Teddy got him. Fab movie. Love poker tho.
Their best song and can't find it anywhere but here
Very underrated song
Brilliant song
"Life is on the wire, the rest is just waiting"
I always put this BSO when I'm working by night alone.
やっぱサイコー!!15年前だわこれ良く聞いてたの
so cool!!
Amazing
♫♥♫ Great movie and song ♫♥♫
Checking it up one more time , is simple Ego destroy.
Really great song
is on my copy. It's the last track on Sunday Mornings, might be hidden if listened to on a CD player but its on my Itunes.
The best trick of the movie, was to include this song at the end. I'm sure not even Teddy KGB saw it coming.
Fantastic movie, and my favorite Crows song. So why is youtube the only place to hear it? Thanks for posting Frost!
Perfect song to end the movie. Weird how this isn't more popular.
TC, yes I know, it seems alot of ppl do not even know about it. Very weird to me as well, such a killer movie! Great actors. This great song perfect! "All this pleasure gets me high" Checkin' it up baby one more time for you, checkin' it up till the pot hits the sky!"
I can’t find this song on Apple Music
Check check check..HE TRAPPED ME!
"checkin' it up until the pot hits the sky!"
If you are young (let’s say under 25 or even 30), whilst I’m in no position to give advice, I would expect you may possibly find the following poignant:
Chiefly, this song is VERY deep.
First you get the reality check you never knew you needed:
“Even the best years leave a lot to be desired and then they pass you by”
Life is what happens while you’re busy making plans. Enjoy the present.
Then you get some incredibly sage advice. It is hard to explain the value of this advice. Many only realise after it’s too late.
“Turn your back on the people who draw the line.
Put your faith in the answers that you can’t find.
Hit the ground hard running down that highway line.
Say a prayer for the ones you have left behind ‘cause all this pleasure gets them high.”
Consider the two together.
If you’re a young person reading this:
1) congratulations for making it this far through the comment
2) Do. Not. Waste. Your.
Otherwise, I welcome comments calling me a complete boomer even though I’m not that old 😂
Peace ✌️
Checking it up .
Chen it up
This song was not part of the original soundtrack. Was added to credits scene when Adam Duritz came through at last minute. Movie came out after 1st CC album, around when Recovering the Satellites was out. Since it is not part of any CC album, they borrowed a bit from it when they released the next album => Hangin' Around may well be its pop reincarnation
I'm NOT PLAYING FOR THE THRILL OF VICTORY HERE...!!!...OR SOME VEGAS PIPE DREAM...I PLAY FOR MONEY...BEST LINE OF THE MOVIE.
“My kids eat.”
Best scene love Joey Knish!
Every card player's theme song. This song is like impossible to find. As many poker player's that's out there, you would think this song would be easy to find.
Sucks that you can't find this on Spotify
Why can I not find this song ANYWHERE?!?!?
Ed Norton gives props to Counting Crows for this track, if you watch the DVD with the commentary on all the way through the credits... Actually there are two different commentaries: one with a bunch of pro poker players talking some awesome shit the whole time, and the other is some directorial crew with Ed Norton. That one.
