My 7 year old Grandson brought one of these home that he had traded, for lord knows what with another kid, who did not know the code. I worked on it off and on for 2 or 3 days using the paper clip idea, and the aluminum strip with no luck. until I got out my feeler gauge, pulled the .007, or the 0.18mm out, and it was much ezier to feel the low spot after trying a couple dozen times, this worked the very first time. I stuck a dollar in it locked it up, then had my Grandson try, making it seem as if he had found the code, himself. You can only image his surprise, and delight when it popped open and a dollar bill fell out, well worth my time, just to see his face. Now he can't wait until school tomorrow to show the other kid what we did, with some bragging rights in order, I am sure. Thanks for all the advice much appreciated.
you are the Man! That little homemade tool made all the difference. I was trying for hours with a pen-knife and couldn't feel the drop. The aluminum can trick did it. Thanks Man!
Pretty thankful right now. There it is on youtube. Had a $150 Master Lockbox sitting on my desk for 7+ years I'd guess. Every few years I'd fiddle with it to see if I remembered the code and never did. Watched the other video with the pick and then used the pop can metal a half inch to 1/3 inch wide tip and a few inches long- once you get the feel - it was so easy- mine didn't open at 3 clicks either - I didn't give up and kept moving the set of 4 till I hit it - probably 5. Thanks
Outstanding video...and your assistant is obviously the most trustworthy--I have one around the same age (9 1/2) and they don't mess around. Well done. Keep up the good work!
This works great. I just did 5 locks in total and opened all of them like this. One was a VL lock like shown which I had to use the aluminum can. Three of the others were a different brand but matching, and I was able to peak in the cracks of the numbers to see the "flat spots", with a flashlight of course, and the with the fifth lock is also a different brand and could just barely see in with a flash light to line up the flat spots. Each lock took 3 or 4 cycles through the digits, but all unlocked no problem. It takes a few moments to get the hang of it, but will definitely work, took me maybe 10 minutes to get all five opened. If anyone is having no lock, I mean luck, keep trying, it works! edit: I just seen I had another VL lock sitting here, I peaked in between the numbers with a flashlight in that one to "see" the flat spots (where you slide the pop can; not as easy to see as with my other locks, but can just barely peak in there, opened just fine, so that is 6 locks that this has worked for.
My son changed the combo on my lockbox a while back, and we were never able to figure out what the new combo was ... until today! Thank you so much for this! FYI ... I didn't have a soda can so I used a little strip of cardstock, and it worked great.
John Kenny, you are the man! Why anybody would put a keybox on a gas meter is beyond me, even the meter reader asked if I put it there. I bought this house a month ago and it has locks stuck on everything. Next I need to find out how to remove rotary dial master locks. Thank you for this info :).
I bought my home 5 years ago and there was 3 of these lock boxes left behind I always thought about throwing them away but then i got into real estate and I remembered I had those 3 lock boxes with your video i was able to open every one of them and save my self probably 80-100 bucks thank you man
Worked for me. One thing I did different was instead of waiting for the drop, I made a mark on the aluminum and spun the dials until it found the lowest point. That kept the piece from getting snagged in the wheel. Worked like a charm.
My Realtor was unwilling to give me the code on a house that I am just waiting to close on. We happened to be in the area and wanted to take some measurements but Mr. By The Book wasnt cooperating. Pulled up your video and followed exactly like you demonstrated and I was in the door in under 5 minutes. Thanks for the tip. BTW this was a Master Box but worked exactly the same way.
Great video!! Took me a little while but I finally got it. The only thing I would add is that I did have to spin mine more than 3 times. It may have to do with where I put the tool. So don't give up until you've made a full circle. I had 4 boxes that I had to retrieve from my properties that someone had changed the codes on and was able to open them all. Thanks!
Yay! Slight variation on the number of rotations on an older letter- based lock, but good instructions and saved me the cost of a locksmith on my rental house :)
Thanks,This worked so well. I do realize that with a good light source that you can actually see the flat spots on the left side of each wheel if you just move the wheel a little to the right. Line the flat spots all together, then do just like the video shows. Move each number individually from left to right. Each time seeing if the box will open. Very nice.
Thank you!!! Like most, I did not see this for evil doing. People do realize most realtors with give you the combo over the phone. But for me, I was obsessed with locks & keys from birth (sure some Fruedian shiz there lol) but my aunt gave me a MMFS box around age 8. I changed the combo & locked away a 24kt gold ring that ended up being the last bday gift from another aunt. I packed it away & never really thought about it & tonight, thanks to you & you're sidekick I dug for hours to find the box & opened it while watching this the second time. Thank you!
Took me awhile and several re-attempts to get the feel to find that flat side of the tumblers, but it worked! I also had to turn the tumblers down 3 or 4 clicks until it opened too. Thanks! Cannot imagine trying this with the LB on a door!
This was the best video. It took me one try and I am so happy. I am a realtor and I have so many lockboxes. There was one that I couldn't remember the code. Thanks so much.
Thanks took me awhile to really feel the drop, I keep doing re-keys for companies because they don't have the code . You saved me a shitload of money. I have 20 boxes still on knobs I can now take the box off of.
I just accidently changed the code on a lockbox not realizing what I was doing, this hack saved me. Took me only about 5 minutes and four spins of the dials and I was in, Thanks :o)
Thanks! Had an agent change the code on my box so more showings couldn’t happen and this worked and helped me to save the box instead of having to bolt cut it off
Thanks man, I have a lot of mechanics tools and used a .004” feeler gauge.. I bought a used 2016 GMC truck and found a lock box mounted on the underside of the back bumper..most shade tree mechanics have a set of feeler gauges so no need to cut up an aluminum can..
OMG! This works! I went from the top of the numbers to feel the drop and used a piece of aluminium blinds! Saved me a trip to go get another one! Thank you thank you!
Thanks. This came in handy. Friend purchased a home, and the backdoor had one of these locks. Keys have been in there for a year! lol... Got them out for him now though. :D
You don't have a set of standard keys for REO properties that have been secured. I keep a set of 10 or 12 standard keys that rarely fail to work (maybe 1 in 50 doesn't). It's not just a regional thing, surprisingly, as we learned when running a nationwide independent insurance adjuster business.
Awesome. I had a few of these left from years back of doing REO work and need one now for a Job Trailer. Thanks for the tutorial. (No nefarious intentions on this end)
Thanks man it worked, I had to get a feel for how the drop felt which took a little while but once I got that it was easy! I finally have the dumb lock off of my front door!
Thank you thank you thank you !! I was given some lock boxes to carry with me at my new job and I messed up the code on one, I would have been really embarrassed to have to go to my new boss and tell them hey I messed up one of your expensive lock boxes !!! Thanks Man !!!
Big ups and RESPECT for having the courage to post your 1st time. It's a winner for sure. I never really post anything anywhere but I comment on shift I have a opinion about. Depending on the situation of course. I'm not wasting energy and frustration arguing with religious people of "faith". No winning but you can ruin their whole lives foundation if you want to meet each of their dogmatic pandering at the lowest possible point. Quoting scripture as it relates to your agenda or argument. I broke a man's fake faith. He had no idea he was literally living under the many lies he was indoctrinated with by his "well-meaning parents ". I just don't understand people who are okay with never questioning anything or calling B.S.
This actually works! Thank you so much :-) BTW....low spots were 0821...CODE WAS 5376....I found the low spots on each digit and added 5 to each. i must admit i am amazed! Thank you John Kenny. I AM USING THIS ON MY OWN PERSONAL LOCKS ONLY that I forgot the combination to.
Can't believe it! I never felt happy that the key to my office was in a box outside the door. No one knew the code so it sat there for two years. I watched this video and had it on in two minutes. Turned out it wasn't even the key to my office. Ha. Great video.
When trying to reset the code on my box I accidentally did it incorrectly and therefore couldn't get the box back open. This video saved my from having to throw the box out.
Lmao, I keep telling people to buy the best equipment they can afford for picking locks, but I also recommend improvisation. I have even used feeler gauges to do that :) piano wire works well too like jiggler keys can pop cash boxes easier than raking them.
Ha! It worked! Thanks for this video. By the way, I didn't have any pop cans handy so instead I used a business card which I cut into a similar shape as shown in the video.
This works well, took me 20 minutes on my first one but I finally got it. Do you know if this works on other brands of lock boxes? Like 3 numbered, or vertical layout, or those masterlock boxes?
I feel like I just did a dime at San Quinton with an evil genius for a cellmate. This worked just like you said. However for my lock I had to go 5 clicks after bdc(bottom dead center) I suspect the lock makers mix it up; some are 3, some are 1. Some are 6, etc. valuable 411. Thanks
Thank you for the great tip, i have a job for that today, my boxing club has a box like this and changed the combo by mistake and so they dont know it, im trying today to pick it, its my first pick, and i dont have tools, but now i do. - ill get back to you if it worked for me. -kenneth
Hi John Kenny, I am having trouble finding the low spot (or notch). I have tried at the bottom, the middle & the top. Could you please elaborate? Thanks!
Hi, love your video but I wasn't able to get it done yet. I wonder if we rendered the lock box inoperable. We were trying to change the code, after changing it we flipped the little lever back (on the back), but now the new code doesn't work. Neither does the old code. Could we be SOL or do you think your method would still work? thanks!
What's going on I watched your video and I will give you 10 thumbs up cuz I tried it on my lock box and it actually works thank you for the tip👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍
So would this technique work on a personal lockbox such as a SentrySafe p005c? Found one and I can hear some things inside when I shake it around so I want to see what's in there.
Took me a while but if finally did it. For the people that are trying this right now the drop and or shift wait for it to go as low as it can then after you have hit the bottom leave it there move it key by key and when the aluminum moves move leave the number as it is
Just did this to break into a lock box I took with me after replacing locks on a vacant property and hanging a new lock box since no one knew the code to the original.
How big do the dimensions on the 'custom made' tool (soda can piece) have to be? My guess is like 2 inches long by 1/2 an inch wide. But I'm only guessing. Thank you for showing us how to do this, it is VERY helpful.
I actually took the 3.5” computer floppy disc stainless sliding “door” off of the diskette and cut a thin strip which fits nicely between the combination wheels and I left a strong longer “handle” to hold onto. I spin the numerical wheels upward until the feeler drop slightly, after all four numbers have dropped, I spin them downward ONE number, after that. The lock door will open with the thumb slide and then the shackle inside can be unhooked and removed from the object it was attached to. .... it almost always works but every now and then I start completely over! Hope this helps someone!

you right on point with her age. also thank you we will be making some new videos soon.

after a week of trying different videos your video was the best, got it open it took me 5 turns after i got the first #s lined up thanks
This was the best video. It took me one try and I am so happy. I am a realtor and I have so many lockboxes. There was one that I couldn't remember the code. Thanks so much.

Wow thank you! This worked. Very satisfying to get this lock off. Worked on my Shurlok 4 digit lock.
Glad it worked for you!! Good job for sticking with it...
OMG! This works! I went from the top of the numbers to feel the drop and used a piece of aluminium blinds! Saved me a trip to go get another one! Thank you thank you!
Karoshi K your welcome glad it helped
Thanks for posting. we forgot our code, and this helped open up our lock box!!
Thanks. This came in handy. Friend purchased a home, and the backdoor had one of these locks. Keys have been in there for a year! lol... Got them out for him now though. :D

Thank you I found one of these locks all the way from Ireland done as you said, got it open cheers
Thanks alot! After arguing with someone who swore that the code must be, I proved the damn code was changed and we got in!
Awesome. I had a few of these left from years back of doing REO work and need one now for a Job Trailer. Thanks for the tutorial. (No nefarious intentions on this end)
It does work! Just got an investment property where realtor left lock box.. Awesome man!!!!
nice job . Thanks for demo. Very serious assistant you have there.
Thanks so much! Followed your instructions and had that sucker open in less than five minutes!
your very welcome i made this video to help people im glad you were able to get it done.
Thanks man it worked, I had to get a feel for how the drop felt which took a little while but once I got that it was easy! I finally have the dumb lock off of my front door!

You just helped me get into my house after being locked out! 🤣
Thank you so much for taking time and making this video!
Thanks man! Your right easy tools at home not like other videos makes u think u really need them tools but nah thanks! It worked thumbs up!
you just save me a lot of money dude !!! thank you so much...
Worked Great! Shame on us for forgetting the combination. Thanks!
thank you for this works on all 34 lock boxs we had money saver
I'm glad it helped you. That was the main goal for this video.
Big ups and RESPECT for having the courage to post your 1st time. It's a winner for sure. I never really post anything anywhere but I comment on shift I have a opinion about. Nobody picked up the box after we moved. The "drop" was subtle, but it worked. Thanks!
thank you sooooooo much I have used this three times so far it has saved me so much money!!!!!!!
Great Job, thanks for taking the time and share your knowledge, I see it has help many people and count one more 👌🏻👍🏻
It f***in works!!!! I had to turn the dials 4-5 times instead of 3
Dude this is so helpful! Thanks! I have a letter combination lock similar to this and forgot my combination to it. Thanks so much!
by the way i wouldn't have know how to figure this out without your video, thanks
Thank you very much, worked like a charm on first try!
just tried it with the mounted key lock-box - works perfectly, huge thanks! btw, no crime committed, just a lost code
This really worked. I FINALLY was able to open my lock!!!
Thank you for the helpful video. If this didn't work it would have been the trash pail. It took five attempts for me.
what works really good if you have any old floppy disks is the shutter from them. It's nice and stiff but doesn't have a sharp edge.
Thanks for the video....worked well. Worked on 5th time for me!! Thanks again
I actually learned a bit from this video more than from others so thanks
A Country Mans Ingenuity Is Priceless. You could have sold this lil' doodad for $1.99 at Realtor conventions all over the United States. Thank you.
Lmao, I keep telling people to buy the best equipment they can afford for picking locks, but I also recommend improvisation. I have even used feeler gauges to do that :) piano wire works well too like jiggler keys can pop cash boxes easier than raking them.
Thanks your video helped us so much we almost could not open our lock box
Ha!
Worked great. Went 4 rolls
This works amazing! Thank you so much!
Love this from sunny Hollywood, CA
I feel like I just did a dime at San Quinton with an evil genius for a cellmate. This worked just like you said. However for my lock I had to go 5 clicks after bdc(bottom dead center) I suspect the lock makers mix it up; some are 3, some are 1. Some are 6, etc. valuable 411. Thanks
Thank you for the great tip, i have a job for that today, my boxing club has a box like this and changed the combo by mistake and so they dont know it, im trying today to pick it, its my first pick, and i dont have tools, but now i do.
- ill get back to you if it worked for me.
-kenneth
Question - what does the "drop" actually feel like? is the shim straight on and then it gets knocked down???
Worked! Thank you. I bought the house, but the realtor forgot the code.
Hi John Kenny, I am having trouble finding the low spot (or notch). I have tried at the bottom, the middle & the top. Could you please elaborate? Thanks!
Hi, love your video but I wasn't able to get it done yet. I wonder if we rendered the lock box inoperable. Thanks for posting I forgot the code on mine I tried this way and third time lucky and I was in
Worked for me, but took 5 times instead of 3...Cheers!
THANK YOU GUY. GOOD JOB. WORKED FOR MINE. (vault lock box 3 letters digit)
your welcome i m glad i could help.
Worked for me. First try. Thanks.
I got mine on the first try. Thanks for the video
I tried it but first I didn't get it open but stuck with it and it worked thanks a million
What's going on I watched your video and I will give you 10 thumbs up cuz I tried it on my lock box and it actually works thank you for the tip👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍
That was awesome, it works. Thanks dude.
it worked for me. I folded the strip of pop cans in half to give it more strength. and I had to roll the numbers 4 times 1 digit each time
So would this technique work on a personal lockbox such as a SentrySafe p005c? Found one and I can hear some things inside when I shake it around so I want to see what's in there.
Took me a while but if finally did it. For the people that are trying this right now the drop and or shift wait for it to go as low as it can then after you have hit the bottom leave it there move it key by key and when the aluminum moves move leave the number as it is
yes works the same way on them all
Thanks, I forgot my number. I was screwed for a second. I used the bottom of a swisher packet I found though. I cut it diagonally
i am sure it does i will look around for one to try it out
Gotta love people who teach others how to be a criminal!
I got it on the first time great video,,, now how do i change the combo.....
Just did this to break into a lock box I took with me after replacing locks on a vacant property and hanging a new lock box since no one knew the code to the original.
Thank you, I used the bottom edge of can before it would work.
How big do the dimensions on the 'custom made' tool (soda can piece) have to be?
My guess is like 2 inches long by 1/2 an inch wide. But I'm only guessing. Thank you for showing us how to do this, it is VERY helpful.
Thank you for this video.
Hope this helps someone!
i would try 1/4 or 1/2 its really up to you. I am glad you liked my video. this was my first one thinking of making more.
what does the lowest point mean? depth? or part of the dial?
Would it work the same way with the alpa lock box?
