He has recommended quite a few locks, like the Bowley padlock. That is pretty much unpickable. The door version has only been picked by one person AFAIK who has custom made tools and was lucky in the lock he got. There have been a few others too.
The one thing these locks have going for them is that they can be programmed with any number of numbers needed. I think you could do one number or all of the buttons on this, and anything in between. I guess that helps to make it a little more secure, except when it has an exploit like what was just demonstrated.
We used to have these all over on rentals. Glad to know how dam useless they are. Almost fully changed them out. Im waiting in a year to see this guy unlock our new locks with his nail in 30secs.

It's a security thing. 😉 Jokes aside I used to have access to some pretty hairy information that required a high clearance rating. Thing is with a lot of these things you really do not want to know what's in there, and for that my memory worked just fine. People could give me their passwords and ten seconds later I might remember if it started with a letter or a digit, but never more than that. If I had to enter the same password ten or more times I might be able to remember it for an hour, but that's about it. Always amazed people how I could forget password and codes almost as fast as they were read to me. Unfortunately this skill also applies to phone numbers and pin codes, so I have to keep everything like that written down somewhere, which is less than optimal...
Dear LPL, I would like to throw an idea out on to the table: a March madness lock bracket. Pit the most well known or best lock makers’ locks against one another to see who’s lock is the superior. Cheerio!
As a Virginia based real estate photographer, I encounter these every so often - and I am often locked out of a home because of either a wrong code being given, or not being given a code at all. This is actually useful for my profession! Can’t wait to be texting the listing cordinator and let them know that they forgot the code, and I was able to get in because they use the most non secure lockbox on the market.
Thank you!! One of these was stuck on our front door for months after we moved in (the people it belonged to wouldn't come and get it), finally got it removed! ☺
Thank you so much LPL I just now got locked out of my friends apartment in SF. I watched your video and it helped me get into the apartment. They had gone to sleep and weren’t answering over new years and I went from going to have a miserable night to now sleeping comfortably. Thank you LPL!!!!
Another Lockpickinglawyer video has saved the day for me. Someone jammed a key for in one of these that shouldn't have been and I couldn't remember the code to it. Everyone else that had the code wasn't available. Saved my day again
My comment isn't about this particular box, but I've noticed this exploit with key boxes before. The fact that the combo doesn't have to be in order is a huge weakness. We rented a house in a resort town for a weekend and were supposed to pick up a key at the realty office. They had a wall of lockboxes with a similar keypad opening scheme. My friend who had rented the place told me the combo and it wouldn't open. While everyone was freaking out thinking we wouldn't be able to get the keys until the next day (when the office opened) just for fun I entered my bank PIN number and the box popped open. Later it turned out that the number I entered wasn't even the exact correct code, (it was supposed to be a calendar date, basically) but it was the right numbers and since the order doesn't matter... it worked.
My two cents: another big issue with this model is use over time. Since the order of the numbers doesn't matter, old locks display their combos via built up dirt, worn buttons, etc.
*I wish I knew this before lol.* I used to be a real estate agent & had to open these for my older co-workers a lot, but usually I could figure out the combo by asking their birthdays (yes, it's that bad). This is waaay better than the way I was taught.

So nice from the lock company to provide any would be picker the tension tool and the pick through the normal interface of the lock, this way it is really looks like a frustrated owner who forgot the code and trying to remember it.
My friend has 2 of these. I tried on them. Initially I totally couldn't tell the difference between the button feel of the correct code and the incorrect code. Believing in the LPL, I kept on trying. After about 20 minutes, I got the first one open. Another 2 minutes, I got the second one open. The difference seems to be the very last bit of key travel, the incorrect ones have a little bit of more resistance.
Thank you for this comment! Your description of how exactly to feel for that last bit of key travel resistance did it for me, after unsuccessfully trying for 15 mins!

Young Sprinkles I think I may like the idea but I’m gonna need some more clarification on exactly what you mean before I can fully stand behind you on this one
I don't watch your videos for the sake of knowing how to pick locks. rather, the way you present and explain techniques and ideas is outstanding. your videos are so well spoken its like an art form. kudos!
Thanks for this, I have one of these left on my house (empty) after some renovation works on my kitchen. This will help me get it off non destructively.
There's an even faster and easier way - just hold pressure on the open latch, then gently tap each button. Buttons which are part of the combination will be tighter and not depress as deeply. Release pressure on the latch and press the tightest button. Repeat until open. Having never seen one of these before and without any googling I had one open in under 30s! I definitely would not recommend them!
Thanks. Your technique worked better than the lawyer's - no offense to the lawyer. Just to clear up any confusion: 1. Push down on the latch that is used to open the lock (the latch with the triangle) - hold down on the latch. *2. While holding down on the latch, press all of the buttons one at a time and feel for any buttons that are harder to press or don't feel like they really go down at all. *Take your time on number 2 and repeat the process until you can feel about 4 numbers that are harder to press than the other buttons. 3. Release the latch with the triangle. 4. Press down on the small latch at the bottom that is marked "C." 5. Press the buttons that felt the tightest (it will probably be 4 buttons only but it might be more than 4 buttons). 6. After you have pressed the buttons that you think are the correct combination buttons, press down again on the top latch with the triangle. 7. Open the lock. 8. Throw the lock in the trash can and find a really good location to hide your spare key.
@@cesarsoto4551 Oh my fucking God, I’ve been spending the last 30 minutes on this. I got it open within two minutes after reading your comment. Thank you!
LOL THANKS! Had this box for quite a while at my neighbor's, decoded it open, put a note in it to change their key storage. At first, they changed combination, but now it's gone thankfully :D
Thanks for this video. I moved into a new place and there was one of these outside. I didn't have the code and your video showed me how to get it open. I've watched your videos for a while for entertainment, but didn't think I'd actually need to learn how to break into a lock!
Thank you! The pressure method didn't work, but knowing that the order of presses doesn't matter helped me open a GE Security keylock through sequential trial and error, in only 37 of a maximum 120 tries to get our backdoor key that has been hidden in this key lock for over 5 years. I knew they likely only used a 3 digit combination and I was correct.
it's fascinating, that so many locks nowadays are actually more security-through-obscurity than actual security... once you know how the mechanisms work, you can easily defeat them.
Hiding the key is more protective than showing everyone "Hey, there's a key in this box" imo. You should hide it and have a lock box. Putting it on your doorknob is asking for someone to break it.
I have to call BS on this method, I have the exact same box and have tried about 40-50 times over 2 days and get different results…..time to get out the angle grinder.
They must have fixed this. I have the exact same lock that I’ve forgotten the code to and when I press the buttons to see which ones bind when I press down to open, not a single one anywhere binds.
LPL is a very talented lockpicker, but this lock requires no skill to defeat. Even I, which have not had any practice with lock defeating, have been able to get this lock decoded without even trying, just for fun. This lock is just bad.
I love that LPL has such clean and tidy videos. No filler to get to 10 minutes (honestly if a lock takes 10 minutes for LPL to bypass, I'll throw money at said lock).
So, this method didn't work for me. But, you can 1. Peel off the plastic back cover 2. Get a nail or pick. And the top center of back there is a metal moveable latch. It will release the U shaped top. 3. Use a flashlight for light in the back hole or the top hole. And look at the other. 4. Use a note pad to notated what's pointed up or down, remember. It's a Mirror image from front to back 5. Viola
It worked! Can't believe it. LOL. My friend was going to throw one away because he lost the code years ago. It was on his elderly mother's house for emergencies. . It's just like the one in the video and it took me about 30 minutes to pick it. I really thought this guy on the video was making it up. It really worked. After I opened it, there is a little plastic tool that has "recode tool" on it so you can recode to whatever you want. I feel like I hit the jackpot when it actually worked. The code on the one I have was 1-3-4-6. I kept feeling the keys over and over to see if I could notice any differences between the keys. I did try something and it helped me. After I pushed the top row of buttons, I pressed on the thing he talks about and then I released it and pressed again, I helped me identify which buttons were NOT in a bind.
Can we get like a tour of your lock-picks or what locks you recommend/use. It would be very cool to see what a master at lock-picking would use for his security.
Not necessarily. But it lowers the probability. 6 numbers out of 12 = 12 + 11 + 10 + 9 + 8 + 7 different codes = 57 different combinations. It’s less than 12*11*10*9*8*7 (which you would get with order-sensitive combinations) but it’s a masterlock anyway.
So this week was the most unproductive i ever had, as i binged through all your videos while at work. My first lockpick + training lock set is also on its way. Well done sir.
Edit/TLDR: I finally got it after I took the doorknob and lock off the door so I could work on the lock in the comfort of my kitchen instead of bending over my door in 40˚ weather. What I learned: When looking for free travel the buttons can be deceiving. I found the binding buttons usually only offered resistance at the very bottom of travel, and it usually felt like you were nudging the plate away. The free (i.e. combination buttons) ones felt 'lively' and you could lightly press them and they would bounce back freely with full springiness. The binding ones felt dead at the bottom. It was often very subtle, and I had to sometimes start from the bottom row and work my way up because if you've got the wrong buttons pushed from 1-9, the #, 0, * buttons won't give good feedback. Otherwise LPL's technique is brilliant as usual, you just have to develop a feel for the lock, and once you get it open or can start with one you've set the combo on yourself, you can develop a feel for the difference between the combination (arrow down on back) and the dummy buttons (arrow up). Btw, it's easy to get tricked by a row that has no numbers set. If all the way at the bottom (#,0,*), like mine were, you can imagine binding where there isn't any.
Well said. There is one of these hanging in the stairwell at my work, been there three years. I came across this video and tried it and all of what you said is true. I didn't get it but I'll try again.
When I shoot photos for real estate listings, I almost never bother calling for the code since these are so easy to get into. It's faster to just figure out the code myself than wait for someone to pick up the phone. It's cool to see one made it on your channel!
Yes... been watching for a couple weeks now and when I saw this thumbnail I was stoked because I have this lock and I actually forgot the combination... Let’s do this! Nope. Still locked.
well, that would be a sliding door that open on changing temperature. As sliding door usually allows to people to leave, even if it is set to lock out people, I think he could manage that with a straw in the winter, by sticking it trough the gap of the sliding doors and then blowing trough.

rather, the way you present and explain techniques and ideas is outstanding. your videos are so well spoken its like an art form.
Thank you. This worked in one try.
If the latch is open u dont need to pick it 👏
Thanks. Your technique worked better than the lawyer's - no offense to the lawyer. Just to clear up any confusion:
4. Press down on the small latch at the bottom that is marked "C."
@@cesarsoto4551 THANK YOU!!!
@@cesarsoto4551 Oh my fucking God, I’ve been spending the last 30 minutes on this. I got it open within two minutes after reading your comment. Thank you!
I love your channel. Super informative. I love that you shame big name over priced junk lock makers.
LOL THANKS! Had this box for quite a while at my neighbor's, decoded it open, put a note in it to change their key storage. At first, they changed combination, but now it's gone thankfully :D
You have to trust me on that.
We always trust you LPL.
This method doesn't seem to work very well if there's a long combo on it, every button just becomes loose.
Thanks for this video. I moved into a new place and there was one of these outside. I didn't have the code and your video showed me how to get it open. I've watched your videos for a while for entertainment, but didn't think I'd actually need to learn how to break into a lock!
Me: ok time to sleep
LockPickingLawyer: *No*
You're going to regret not having those 2 minutes of sleep tomorrow!
Lock: Time to weep.
I'll use the memory erase device that Bosnian Bill and I made to erase the code in my memory :)
We have a lock like this in my office. I tried it the moment you cracked that lock and I gotta say.. Worked like a charm.
it's fascinating, that so many locks nowadays are actually more security-through-obscurity than actual security... once you know how the mechanisms work, you can easily defeat them.
So I'm a Realtor and I forgot the combo to my push button lock and I just opened it. I'm showing this to my broker tomorrow! This is crazy!
Hiding the key is more protective than showing everyone "Hey, there's a key in this box" imo. You should hide it and have a lock box. Putting it on your doorknob is asking for someone to break it.
As a property manager, I've used these lock boxes before, but not any more!
I have to call BS on this method, I have the exact same box and have tried about 40-50 times over 2 days and get different results…..time to get out the angle grinder.
Always love a good LockPickingLawyer vid over 2 mins
This is the lockpicking lawyer and the company going into liquidation tomorrow will be...
You underestimate the power of marketing.
They must have fixed this. I have the exact same lock that I’ve forgotten the code to and when I press the buttons to see which ones bind when I press down to open, not a single one anywhere binds.
How many years has it taken you to accomplish this. I really love watching you open these locks is absolutely amazing
But, you can
1. Peel off the plastic back cover
2. Get a nail or pick. And the top center of back there is a metal moveable latch. It will release the U shaped top.
3. Use a flashlight for light in the back hole or the top hole. And look at the other.
4. Use a note pad to notated what's pointed up or down, remember. It's a Mirror image from front to back
5. Viola
can you explain the metal moveable latch more? i don’t understand
The power of the mind you got that right it's called remembering
"The order doesn't matter".. Well that is some security flaw right there.
Adrien Ragot
If it’s a masterlock, a rope knot would be more secure.
Each button can be on or off, so it's binary. That means 2^12 = 4096 combos. Not terrible. And certainly not the lock's biggest flaw!
Lock companies should send their products to you and get feedback so when they actually go and sell the product it doesn't suck
I ran across one of these doing security. Immediately thought of you. Wondered when you'd get to it.
My grandmother was a realtor and my grandpa figured this out when she forgot the combination lol. This method works on a lot of lockboxes.
So this week was the most unproductive i ever had, as i binged through all your videos while at work. My first lockpick + training lock set is also on its way. Well done sir.
Thanks. Took me about 10 minutes. I found it, now I got a free lock box to use for my next listing.
"try me!"
challenge accepted
Literally came across one of these recently on one of my jobs and had no idea how to open it. Thanks for the video LPL. Gotta keep my skill set up
The last time I was this early the lock was still closed.
“You’ll have to trust me on that”
I think I trust you more than myself
I am now going trash my lock now 🔐 😆
Edit/TLDR: I finally got it after I took the doorknob and lock off the door so I could work on the lock in the comfort of my kitchen instead of bending over my door in 40˚ weather.
@@roosduster Cool! I had forgotten about this post. Thanks for the reply. Good luck. Let me know if you get it open.
Cool cool, Master lock just providing the torsion wrench and letting you use your finger as the pick. Good times
I wasn't expecting any more from this lock. A 5 year old could do that.🤔✌
I love the buttons they remind me of the buttons on a jukebox!
"Master Lock" should change their name to "Apprentice Lock" after this.
When I shoot photos for real estate listings, I almost never bother calling for the code since these are so easy to get into. It's faster to just figure out the code myself than wait for someone to pick up the phone. It's cool to see one made it on your channel!
*Sees title*
Oh dis gon be gud
Yes... been watching for a couple weeks now and when I saw this thumbnail I was stoked because I have this lock and I actually forgot the combination...
Let’s do this!
Nope. Still locked.
Trying this in 2024 with a brand new version and I feel like Masterlock has since removed this exploit. Unless I'm just not very good at this.
I've had one of these on my wall for years and have long forgotten the code. This video solved it for me today. Thanks.
Waiting for LPL to open a lock by breathing on it
well, that would be a sliding door that open on changing temperature. As sliding door usually allows to people to leave, even if it is set to lock out people, I think he could manage that with a straw in the winter, by sticking it trough the gap of the sliding doors and then blowing trough.
He opened a gun lock with a twig..
I did this exact decode 2 years ago for my Mother in Law. I found the flaw by reading the item's 1 star reviews on Amazon.Turns out that's actually a good way to find exploits for a particular lock.
Master Lock: "are we a joke to you?"
LPL: "yes!"
hah
