- President Cyril Ramaphosa says he must be given space and time to deal with the corruption allegations against Justice Minister Thembi Simelane. Simelane allegedly took a half a million rand loan from Gundo Wealth Solutions, a company that brokered unlawful investments of R349 million into the now defunct VBS Mutual Bank by the Polokwane Municipality while she was mayor of the city in 2016. Simelane allegedly used the "loan" to buy a coffee shop in Sandton.

Right now he is wringing his hands ("give me space to deal with this matter"), hoping that Minister Simelane, on her own volition, will do the right thing and resign (which she won't, of course), thus sparing him the discomfort of having to fire her. Alternatively that she is arrested by the Hawks, again taking it out of his hands (because the ANC "Step Aside" rule would kick in!!). What a useless leader South Africa has.

The best thing the President can do under the circumstances to allay the public's fear due to perceived or real influece the Minister has over the running of affairs in the Department she heads, is to redeploy her to another department instead of firing her until she is criminally charged if at all. That's my take on this matter.
