Written in 1933 'It's Only a Paper Moon' was an instant hit for Cliff Edwards aka Ukulele Ike. Over the years it would go on to be recorded by such greats as nat King Cole and Ella Fitzgerald. In this quick lesson we look at the basic ukulele chords to both sections of this jazz standard and strum the tune along with a full backing track.

Nice song, also one of my fave movies with Ryan O’Neal and his daughter Tatum. 😀
I have to admit I’ve never seen the movie. Putting it in the list of things to do :)
Wonderful lesson. Thank you so much Christopher. You are such a brilliant teacher.
Hi Christopher, it's always a pleasure to listen, watch and learn with you. :)
You do the very best RUclips productions!
Hello Chris. Thank you for the very generous lesson. It's such a wonderful tune and seems to be made for the Ukulele.
Absolutely lovely Christopher!!
Thanks John!
This is one of my favourite jazz tunes. I initially learnt it through your 1 minute play along a few years ago, then transposed it to Bb to match the Ella version. I’ve only recently started peppering in the V9 instead of the V7, makes for some nice voice leading
Love this one in Bb, sits so nice on Uke.
Thanks again for posting this classic jazz tune. I got the whole song down, just need to practice. I even figure out the last jazzy chords you did as an outro. That is, I can play them but I'm unsure of the names of those chords. After the C I named the remaining 5 chords as F#o7/Ao7/F/F7 and G#o7.
Do the charts go into detail about the more jazzy version?
Being able to play them is always more important than knowing what to call them. Really what's happening at the end is C to C#dim7 (moving up to another inversion of the chord) Dm9, to G7b9. More or less the chord changes to the song with just a little flavor. The full lesson has a chart with these voicings as well as a 15 minute lessons on using them to construct a chord melody solo. Each month the charts always have a second version of the tune with the more fun chord voicings and a lesson on where thy come from so you can start implementing them yourself in songs.
@@Banjoleletinman Hey, thanks Christopher...and what a delicious flavour those chords are. When I have more time I'll be sure to check out the full lesson.
