I love that Nico gets to run a quiz instead of being punished with Digimon designs.
We try to brainstorm ideas for quizzes that Nico or Kyle could run fairly regularly. Shame is that Tyler and I know most of the stuff they know.

Spectrobes had dumb as fk naming conventions, but man they were fun games. Thanks for bringing up a good chunk of my childhood!

This was awesome to see Nico Host one of the quizzes. I grew up with one of the game but have absolutely zero knowledge of the game except for the Little red guy on one of the covers.

No, they do not. The differing names come from adding a piece of equipment that adds an adjective to the Spectrobe's name.
Equip a Spikan with his attack piece and the name becomes Spikan Angot. The defence piece turns it into Spikan Metra
They only have 2 languages as well for the games, english and Japanese, so there are no names in any other language

Even if it isn't for spectrobes again I think Nico should get to run another quiz, this was a fun one. Also I want to see Mitch become broken so we gotta find a series that will break him.

Vilaclasp, looks a little like a bad fan made Fakemon that is supposed to be a regional variant of Kingambit
And apparently it evolved into a fire version of MetalKabuterimon
Doesnt help the name is actually Vilamasta while it's last form is Vilanox, not Vilaclasp and Vilanide

Pretty early DS games I believe. Iirc the DP mining mechanics were dumbed down but ripped from them. It was more action based than pokemen I want to say

Spectrobes origins, the best of the 3 and last Spectrobes game, was a Wii game.
Also, this entire video pointed out all the wrong names except Vilakroma's.
The correct names in order are Segulos, Vilamasta, Vilanox, Spikan, Spikanor
Also, the mining was much more involved than the DP mining mechanic, lets not talk about how they made it even better in WII
Like I don't know the behind the scenes but some of these designs are so hard to actually read what they are they scream "We were made in 3D modeling and nobody thought to do concept art to see if this looks good when seen in any context besides looking at the game running"

God, this unlocked a memory. It’s been years since I thought about Spectrobes
The Spectrobe name doesn't change with a part swap, for example Vilanox with the Vilaball (defence part) is still called Vilanox, Vilaball is the name of the part, and parts I think are only in Beyond the Portals (the 2nd game), but I'd have to go back to replay the 1st game to check and I don't have access to a copy of it right now.
EDIT: 23:19, incorrect Vilakroma is in both the orginal Spectrobes and Beyond the Portals, it is avalible through the card input system, and it is replaced by Scarazook in Origins as the card input Vilanox variant.
Ah, Round 4. Thats one of the firstmain Spectrobe creatures in the franchise. remained one of the main 3 creature you get up to Origins (the last game, wii exclusive I believe). He is a staple. I only played one of the game's so I didn't realise spectrobes could have alternate fighting forms. I'd actually like to see them react to the Spectrobes name song that came out for Origins.

As someone who knows absolutely NOTHING about Spectrobes, I would like to pose a correction to Nico. The "secondary names" for the Spectrobes aren't what you think. See, every Spectrobe has two of what are called Custom Parts. One Custom Part can boost their attack and lower defense, and the other does the exact opposite. However, you assume that the names of the Custom Parts themselves are alternate names for the creatures, which is false.
For example, look at Vilamasta. Its Custom Parts are Vilagrisp (attack) and Vilacrimp (defense). *Those names are exclusive to the parts themselves.* Vilamasta is only known as Vilamasta Sissa or Vilamasta Thrusta when equipped with one of its Custom Parts.

The only Spectrobes fact i remember is that there was this one Spectrobe that was just a pair of Shoes and it evolved into a set of cowboy shoes...
I'mma be real, I played Beyond the Portals as a kid, but for the life of me, I could not remember the alternate names for the add-on features, at most, I remembered the base forms and Vilakroma.

Oh boy i forgot most of the name! Got remembered of a few of them when seeing them but needed to guess often. Freakin loved these game as a kid! Spikanor was my favorite!

Ive played every game. I even animated my own spectrobes animated series. All the spectrobes used their nicknames i gave them ingame. It ran for 5 seasons (one being a fossil Fighters crossover) and had a short movie.

Eh, the comparison to Digimon is more akin to stuff like Beelzemon Blast Mode and Lucemon Chaos.
You add attachments(I don’t think they even gave a statistical difference?) to the Spectrobes and their names changed as a little quirk I guess, but functionally they’re all identical.
I WILL SCREAM FROM THE ROOFTOPS FOREVER THAT SPECTROBES IS THE GOAT
I think so far this is the only time being annoyed by the naming convention actually feels justified.
My votes for other Monster Collection games for this being Dragon Quest Monsters and Yo-Kai Watch. Feel like they'd have a fun time with how pun-focused they are.
