Couldn't agree more, "immersive" is a term thrown around pretty casually in gaming, but Metro Exodus is one of the few games that really accomplishes this. I remember just sitting there on the train with Anna as she sleeps, watching the world go by the windows for ages, I was so reluctant to continue with the game because I felt the characters needed that peaceful time. No other game has ever affected me quite like that.
I disagree, there are many other games that are as immersive or more. Dying Light, Fallout New Vegas, RDR 1 and RDR 2, Witcher III, Ghost of Tsushima, The Last of Us, The Forest... Metro is up there for sure but not once while playing it did I thought "this is the most immersed I've been in a video game"
@@OneWithinn I think the lack of "gamey" elements in Metro Exodus is very interesting and helps with immersion much more than any game you listed spare The Last of Us. Like having a hunger and thirst bar in the corner of your screen at all times in games like the Forest, as well as the crafting system in that game can totally break immersion. Not saying that's a bad thing, obviously the crafting and inventory and building in that game are one of the reasons the game is great, I just like the obvious focus throughout the Metro games to make survival and exploration an emulation of real life, at least in some aspects.
This game holds a very special place in my life, at the end of 2018 I was diagnosed with stage 4 cancer, I spent 2019 and most of 2020 almost dying with treatment, I knew I was getting better when I got back the desire of seating down in front of my PC and trying to play a game, it was therapeutic to say the least, and I truly enjoyed it, same goes for The Last of Us II, there was a time when I didn't believe I was going to be alive to play the game when it was released, I really liked it, but the story felt like a punch to the gut.
Glad to hear you're better! My grandma just got taken away from us by cancer, and it really sucks, but she used to tell me that you shouldn't worry about the end as long as you're having fun on the way there. Do what you love and don't forget to have fun!
My most memorable moment in Metro Exodus was exploring the abandon clinic in Volga. It was on an island in the middle of the river. Before i walked in, i knew the place was spooky. I explore inside and got the loot but then the shadows of the dead appeared. A lot of people died due to fallout in there. Literally had a panic attack when i ran out. Best game ever.
The Metro franchise was quite a surprise for me. Usually, I'm not into horror-type games, but Metro was totally different. Its story is really solid for an FPS single-player game, and its mechanics, especially in Exodus, are just top-notch. I was blown away by that game, and it's still one of my all-time favorite FPS single-player experiences.
Yep, waited years to play it, thinking it's horror and gun shooting monsters with rifles in unreal setting. the story is capturing and overtake all. too bad they didn't show more of the boobs of our Russian wife in Exodus.
I had one of my most intense unscripted gaming moments in this game which has never been topped. I was wandering around in the first large area of the game when I saw a large group of the four legged mutants in the distance. I didn't have the ammo to fight them all so I ducked into one of the overturned train cars to hide from them. I had my aim trained on the only entrance and exit and was desperately hoping none of the creatures decided to poke their heads in. I could do nothing but wait and listen to the footsteps of these creatures slowly walk past my hiding place and fade off into the distance. When I plucked up the courage to check outside, to my relief they were nowhere to be seen, so I hightailed it back to the train as fast as I could. I will never forget that moment, even though there was no action, the sheer intensity of it has not and probably will never be surpassed for me.
Something way cooler happened to me. I took that zip line but there were like 8 mutants waiting for me as I turned a corner. I had like no ammo so I switched to my bombs and blew them all up. Ur story is kinda dumb lol but I know wym it’s just these moments that make it feel so real
You really hit the spot with this video. What makes Metro Exodus so perfect is not only what you mentioned, but also the love they put into it (if you play NewGame+ you can select the option for audio tapes from the devs where they tell you about the developing of the game, they are spread all around the levels of the game) and how it is a close to Artyom's story. If you liked Exodus, Metro 2033 and Metro Last Light will definitely be amazing as well. The devs are launching this year a new Metro game but it's for VR and not related to Artyom's story, but it looks great.
If you never read the 2033,2034 and 2035 books and you don't play in the game in Russian language, you really can't fully enjoy it XD Also the big variety of "Metro Universe" books, which not many know about I presume.
@@deno202 I'm in the process of reading the 2033 one. I'm not sure if the original language of the game by the developers is Russian or English, but I'll try it in Russian in my next game trough.
@@ernestot.3430 Translation is always kinda meh in any way you make it, in games, in books etc. In Metro, the English language feels like it hollow and forced while Russian feels genuine and with weight and atmosphere under each word. When Glukhovski himself was taking part in developing the game and as someone else pointed out, subtitling for background conversations is poor in both games. The Russian dub is nice though, I'd recommend doing it at least once, but not the first time.
There was something just wholesome about the characters having their home in the train. It was a little safe spot in the apocolypse where you could just spend time with friends
I played this game in lockdown (2020) I just played it every hour of the day everyday until I finished. That's how immersive it was. This game is one of those games I'll remember for the rest of my life.
Amazing video, something people might not know, when you're in the train traveling in between maps, you can go to the radio on your room (or wherever it might be at that moment) and scroll thru the stations, eventually you'll find one giving news about what happend on the last map you were playing, and it changes of course, depending on how good or bad you were over there
When i found the night vision goggles, i was so happy i went out of my way to explore. I thought i was just going to find a lot of supplies, but it was better
What a great review mate! I've had the Metro games in my library for a couple of years now, after getting the set of them on discount. but I've not played any of them. The way you describe playing here, exploring everything and speaking to everyone, is exactly how I play most games, hoping to find some secret pathway or event, but rarely do. I'm now going to start playing these games, thanks to you!
I've yet to play Exodus because I haven't gotten around to it yet, but the first two games were way ahead of their time; a buddy got me part one and two of the series for my ps4 years after I rented the first one. I knew this one would be good as well, the storyline is good and the gameplay is too especially with conserving ammo and filters. Such a slept on game.
This was a great review, I've gone back replayed this game countless times since its release, and its fire has never diminished in my eyes. The part that makes this game immersive for me is the people around you, taking the time to stop and listen to their conversations or your interaction with them, letting Anna rest her head on my lap while she talked about our future and the journey where on really made this game for me. If not us then who?
I'm a huge metro fan. I bought it as soon as it came out and didn't think I'd be so blown away. I play through it once a year and every year I think "Okay, this time I definitely found everything there was to be found in every level" and every time I start it up again I find a dozen things I've never seen. It's probably unhealthy to perceive fictional characters in this way but every time I replay it it feels like reuniting with an old group of friends. Hands down the best game I've ever played and I eagerly await a new addition to the Metro series.
The moment I knew Metro was something special was way back in 2010 when I first played Metro 2033. This series has always been a trail blazer, and ahead of the pack for immersion.
I played all of them, it's hard to rank which one is the best. I loved the feel of 2033, the story of Last Light and the mechanics of Exodus. None of them seemed off or anything, everything fits nice. Metro is such a great game, can't wait to get my hands on the books

I have a enhanced edition and you have binoculars which add points of interests on your map when you focus on certains objects while using binoculars. But you can skip this feature and look through scope instead of binoculars.
This is the best fps game I've ever played. Story, side characters, exploration and above all the immersion I felt while playing, it was perfect, perfect....down to the last minute detail.
when i first played exodus, i did not even knew we had multiple endings, so in my first playthrough i played just beserk shooting everyone and everything, coz this game is so scary af. in the end i got to know wat a mess i made. so in my second playthrough, played it sneaky, stealth always, and in that journey explored the game way way more, and it was sucha different experience altogether. this game was a gem of a piece. that part where they reach the fallback bunker shelter in hope to find resistance, but everyone there has gone full bonkers and cannibals, that part of story was so soo crazy good and scary.
My craziest experience on Exodus has to be the part where you're in pure darkness in high radiation and all you could hear were the giant spiders/scorpions around you. I remember specifically tweaking with just my lighter, not knowing where to go and spinning in circles, only to accidentally light a torch on the wall
3:40 The story of this goes even deeper. If you listen closely in game when they find you, its a group of mfs who come into the storage and find their friends bodies at the door. They see that the blood is fresh, and then one of them exclaims that whoever killed them must still be inside. Then they take their places outside and start yelling at you. Super cool sequence, one of the biggest moments why i love this game so much

I just bought metro exodus for $7 on ps store fucking fantastic game Amazing story, gameplay, gunplay, graphics and I’m stoked to see how well they did on the next few games
I remember this random thing at Kaspyan sea when I was aproaching bandits campound and suddenly band of mutants came out of the Dark and bandits start fighting them.
@@Tiger-kq5rmand wandering around huge, open areas with not much going on killed it for me. I liked Last Light because I felt it was more filled with dread. The bright and wide open areas had no atmosphere
great video bro. hard to comprehend that this game is half a decade old, but still is played and enjoyed by people till this day. keep up the good work brodie.
my only counterargument to the whole video is in the Volga map, that one bandit shack "Press E to open the door" "Press E to climb the ladder" "Press E to climb the ladder" "Press E to zipline" and I had to do it like 3 times to dodge some random mutants, I'm not hating on the game but it missed the mark for me. Also if you liked this style of game where your hud is extremely minimal, also try Far Cry 2 and Stalker Anomaly
Not sure if day and night cycle was a thing in the game but i remember doing the warehouse thing at 4:00 at night. Was creepy with those monsters popping up everywhere. But then it was way easier to take out the guys outside.
And also wait to play it on a masta pc race : a good rig will enhance the experience Metro Exodus still one of the best looking game, when you tweak it, mod it even, and disable all the cluncky ATH, QTE (make them automatic) that is recalling the player that it is a video game : learn your shortcuts, disable ATH far better experience, learn to use the map etc ... Be immersed within the game !
I havent confirmed it but according to reddit your filters dont run out when your in not irradiated areas. but the mask could get damaged so take it off anyway
As long as we have companies that only care about lining their pockets. Getting more games like these will be rare. At the end of the day its your Palworld's and Fortnite's that make all the cash
Great video! Metro is such a great game franchise and they all are worth playing. From your gameplay I imagine you got the bad ending. That’s a shame, it’s not the ending Artyom or Anna deserve.
Although this comment will be lost in time - like tears in the rain - it worth mentioning that what made me feel the story was the love the developers put into the tiny details. All that Soviet items, like furniture, cars - and omg the train, how much passion they put to make it as close to the real one! - hit me hard, as I was playing the game when just moved to Canada from Ukraine...
love it when devs dare to answer their own question of "what if a world like these exist" and then provided thru the product which is the game itself, that's my experience w/ Stalker, Metro, Fallout, Outer Worlds, ... how the game's world building heavily relies on the environment alone, which brought rise a new tribal faction, biome, culture, politics, wildlife, and conflicts.
What I liked the most in the Metro games is the soundtrack. Every piece does an excellent job at capturing the mood of the moments/surroundings. Hats off to Alexey Omelchuk.
I like Exodus and previous Metro games very much. I played it all 3 times at least. I never find another game like this which can give me same experience
On saving: The game has 4 saves you can load (one quicksave from when you save, and 3 checkpoints). Going to the Load menu allows you to choose which one. You could have gone back to an older autosave for that sandstorm.
My first playthrough was when the game came to steam and i finished the whole game without using the backpack, only in my second playthrough i used it beacuse i saw it ina video and remebered the mechanic existed. It was also the first game that actually made me cry at the end when you excape the city and see the train with the music swelling up. Man such a great game. Also the DLC are relly good. Love the yoke when sam and captain are drinking and he wakes and says hes blind, but the captain just says hes slepping on his face.
That’s why I love this game so much , the small details like Dimitri and Idiot cracking some jokes while Miller rambles about the government and Sebastian talking with that woman , everything going on at the same time in the background making you feel insignificant in the grand scheme . The realism of this game is so intense, it's almost scary.
One thing I love is how the game pulls no punches with travel and combat. You want to fast travel? Nope, you gotta rough it through perilous territory. You might get attacked by ghouls, watchmen or flying demons. VATS? (Like in Fallout). Nope, you gotta grit your teeth and shoot enemies that are moving erratically and jumping around.
Metro exodus is a gorgeous looking game. The charactar models maybe not so much. But the enviornments are beautifully detailed and the lighting brings it all together.
Not a fan of shooter games generally, but this is one of my all time favorite games. Starting with the character writing being so brilliant that even if it was a 2d pixel game I would be invested that these were real living people. Then everything else it built upon that to match the quality of writing of the people. The story is good, but all good stories follow basically the same set of ideas that have been around for thousands of years, what makes them different and special is the individuals involved and the tools they have to exist in (and change) the world.
Don't forget that getting the platinum trophy on Ps is one of the hardest achievements you can get. for one gold trophy, you have to pass a whole chapter without being seen by humans, and if they even notice you, you got to start from the start of the chapter. There is also a mode where you can't save the game yourself, the game saves at the beginning of every chapter (witch are between 2/4 hours long each). And don't get me started of the difficulty settings. I challenged myself and started another playthrough with basically everything on the max difficulty. Including the no save feature. The only time I got sent back was when my power went out and I had to start at the beginning of the last chapter again. So basically 0 deaths. It was exiting to say the least :)
The whole series is goated. They are working on the 4th game rn and hopefully the first two will be remade eventually since they are starting to get dated
Metro last light is one of my all-time favorite games, not sure why I never finished Exodus, but maybe it was because of my primal dislike for open world games, but I will definitely give this game another try now after watching this video!
I’ve played the game on and off for years. The open world is a snore. The best areas are like the ones from 2033 and Last Light. The open world (especially the desert) is A LOT of walking and nothing else.
If you’re playing in fear of open world games, I wouldn’t be too worried. The “open world” sections are kinda small, and you can get a lot of stuff just by going through the main missions. Plus, the last two sections (Caspian and Taiga) are pretty fast, due to a truck and a linear structure respectively.

bro your review is so beautiful and real, i playing the game right now and im in the same mod keep searching and discover places, and also if u used the Binoculars from high place you will know the side quest just need to wait few scends on the opject or the place and artyom will write it down on the map.
saw ur subscriptions almost 500 break my heart, i hope for you milions of it and u got a new like and subscribe, keep going pal
I really hope Stalker 2 hits like Metro Exodus.
Not to mention how amazing the characters in exodus are. To me, they felt like real people and I was sad when damir left and miller died
miller death is unavoidable but damir can stay if some action are taken into the caspian see map
I have a enhanced edition and you have binoculars which add points of interests on your map when you focus on certains objects while using binoculars. But you can skip this feature and look through scope instead of binoculars.
This is the best fps game I've ever played. Story, side characters, exploration and above all the immersion I felt while playing, it was perfect, perfect....down to the last minute detail.
the combat to me feels a little underwhelming if it was a like resident evil 7 than yes perfect
This game was superb, and I rarely hear or see people talking about it. It changed my perspective when I played it!
when i first played exodus, i did not even knew we had multiple endings, so in my first playthrough i played just beserk shooting everyone and everything, coz this game is so scary af. in the end i got to know wat a mess i made.
so in my second playthrough, played it sneaky, stealth always, and in that journey explored the game way way more, and it was sucha different experience altogether.
this game was a gem of a piece.
that part where they reach the fallback bunker shelter in hope to find resistance, but everyone there has gone full bonkers and cannibals, that part of story was so soo crazy good and scary.
My craziest experience on Exodus has to be the part where you're in pure darkness in high radiation and all you could hear were the giant spiders/scorpions around you. I remember specifically tweaking with just my lighter, not knowing where to go and spinning in circles, only to accidentally light a torch on the wall
these guys were rly good at making scripted events feel natural
You can see the passion and hard work that went into all of the Metro games, especially Exodus.
I love it, am going to start another playthrough soon.
Super cool sequence, one of the biggest moments why i love this game so much
I love love love this game😭 i played this already 3 times and years after i still wanna play this. Its just so immersive
I’ve just start playing enjoying metro exodus at this time literally one of the best games I’ve ever played I’ve always been a call of duty player but with all the nonsense cod has now micro transactions sbmm over price bundles and other stuff I’ve enjoyed metro exodus better and has improve my mental wealth being in game but metro exodus is just a masterpiece literally best game ever I’ve played in my gaming times
I just bought metro exodus for $7 on ps store fucking fantastic game Amazing story, gameplay, gunplay, graphics and I’m stoked to see how well they did on the next few games
There's a VR metro title coming: "Awakening", doesn't look half bad, but we'll see. Exodus was sublime.
I remember this random thing at Kaspyan sea when I was aproaching bandits campound and suddenly band of mutants came out of the Dark and bandits start fighting them.
Anyone here who could tell me the name of the Song at 3:26?
Beautiful to see people who never played this series when it was first out and all these years later people still enjoy metro
I've always found the "mini-cutscenes" during action sequences extremely immersion breaking.
they are and the controls are extremely clunky…
@@Tiger-kq5rmand wandering around huge, open areas with not much going on killed it for me. I liked Last Light because I felt it was more filled with dread. The bright and wide open areas had no atmosphere
💯 It really was a mediocre game/experience.
@@HereToWatchNotRead
Wow really??
And also all this gun jamming, flashlight charging, mask wiping etc. are the pace killers, too
great video bro. hard to comprehend that this game is half a decade old, but still is played and enjoyed by people till this day. keep up the good work brodie.
my only counterargument to the whole video is in the Volga map, that one bandit shack "Press E to open the door" "Press E to climb the ladder" "Press E to climb the ladder" "Press E to zipline" and I had to do it like 3 times to dodge some random mutants, I'm not hating on the game but it missed the mark for me.
Metro series is the best
And also wait to play it on a masta pc race : a good rig will enhance the experience Metro Exodus still one of the best looking game, when you tweak it, mod it even, and disable all the cluncky ATH, QTE (make them automatic) that is recalling the player that it is a video game : learn your shortcuts, disable ATH far better experience, learn to use the map etc ...
Be immersed within the game !
zoomer plays a well made game once: the video
Just finished the main storyline and it was my first metro game as well. The ending was so so good and totally unexpected. Excellent on all accounts.
Just picked it up for 6 bucks on sale on series x. Pretty awesome so far, just started last night
I remember playing this and thinking about how ive never felt "attached" or something to a bunch of NPC's before.
I shined a flashlight in the faces of those fisherman at 6:54 , they had a script for that too , turning it on and off, has one too
I havent confirmed it but according to reddit your filters dont run out when your in not irradiated areas. but the mask could get damaged so take it off anyway
The feeling when weapon jammed when fighting the spider inside the bunker. Damn this game so good.
The giant bat picking me up & dropping me was immersive AF 😅
Okay you got me hyped, I'm gonna go try it after I came from work.
As long as we have companies that only care about lining their pockets. Getting more games like these will be rare. At the end of the day its your Palworld's and Fortnite's that make all the cash
Dude just start liking fortnite wtf
Stop resisting
@@GORILLA_PIMP 😂I stopped resisting a long time ago. I'm just saying games like Metro Exodus are going to be very rare.
2:28 I get these too when I can’t figure out what I was going to do next
Loved metro exodus. It's such immersive game. I wish games like this would be more common.
It's also insane how well the first two metro games aged. Mechanically they are on par with most games these days
I've never gone out of my way to sit and listen to everything every character had to say before, until this game!
Good video, I actually enjoyed it
Great video!
My south african radar is going off!!!
love it when devs dare to answer their own question of "what if a world like these exist" and then provided thru the product which is the game itself, that's my experience w/ Stalker, Metro, Fallout, Outer Worlds, ... how the game's world building heavily relies on the environment alone, which brought rise a new tribal faction, biome, culture, politics, wildlife, and conflicts.
This game is amazing... and has a special place in my gaming heart
Mine too best game I’ve played literally is
Stalker will make your brain explode
What I liked the most in the Metro games is the soundtrack. Every piece does an excellent job at capturing the mood of the moments/surroundings.
Hats off to Alexey Omelchuk.
I like Exodus and previous Metro games very much. I played it all 3 times at least.
I never find another game like this which can give me same experience
loved this game, dident finish it cuz i moved and to much time got between, gonna play it again and finish it.
On saving: The game has 4 saves you can load (one quicksave from when you save, and 3 checkpoints). Going to the Load menu allows you to choose which one. You could have gone back to an older autosave for that sandstorm.
You should check out the Stalker franchise(which is from some of the same devs). There are some mods even standalone free mods that do the same thing.
Agree. The gunplay was also really good. Crossbows especially.
Speaking with people or reading all his diary notes - i love ganes like this 👌🏻
That’s why I love this game so much , the small details like Dimitri and Idiot cracking some jokes while Miller rambles about the government and Sebastian talking with that woman , everything going on at the same time in the background making you feel insignificant in the grand scheme .
Best fps of the last ten years. Blows the first two games out of the water with its depth.
The story is good, but all good stories follow basically the same set of ideas that have been around for thousands of years, what makes them different and special is the individuals involved and the tools they have to exist in (and change) the world.
hope there VR title will be as good as
Don't forget that getting the platinum trophy on Ps is one of the hardest achievements you can get. for one gold trophy, you have to pass a whole chapter without being seen by humans, and if they even notice you, you got to start from the start of the chapter.
Taiga took place somewhere in the Burabay National Park area
Excellent video! This is my favorite game series of all time! Hardest difficulty with no HUD is where this game truly shines!
Last light was awesome as well
No dumb intro. cool video
One of my favorite games I always come back to it❤
The whole series is goated. They are working on the 4th game rn and hopefully the first two will be remade eventually since they are starting to get dated
what really took me out of imersion was that one container you can walk through
front page brought me to this year old video... why not sooner?
