Something made me feel weird when they said porridge was Margaret's *favourite* meal. I remembered the dad saying that about the stew and thought it was a bit odd we were told the favourite foods of two characters cause that's not something a story would normally pay attention too. Definitely gave the ending even more of a punch than it was before, the writer did a great job
I listen to a ton of scary stories to fall asleep to and was almost out when I started this one. I quickly woke back up because it actually scared me a bit. That never happens! I love it! Great story. Thank you.
I'm camping and we have a hybrid camper so i can really hear outside noises. Owls especially! I l put ear buds in and listen. Sometimes its a bad idea because instead of falling asleep i get a bit freaked out lol!
This is some of the scariest stuff I don't know how people survive this. Now how many of us are going to walk around thinking is this person from our world or the isn't world !!
Its funny because I was just talking to my 14 yr old daughter about this the other day. I told her maybe she doesnt like to read like me because i picture a movie n my head... she looked at me like I was the biggest idiot and said, " No crap, everyone does" I was like, how do u know? She said "Well when u describe something to someone, they picture it n their head right? So wouldnt it make sense that if u hear a story ur picturing that too?" Teenagers... gotta love em
It makes me super sad that the father was one of the victims, but the ending where the grandmother and grandson decide to dedicate their time to keeping the property safe for them to live in and focusing on surviving and sending prayers to their family… it hurts but also it makes me hope for a better future for them. I just want good things for them forever thanks.
This is one of the BEST stories I’ve heard in quite a while…and your narration made it all the better because you’re the BEST! I’m so glad the author sent it to you❤️
Agree with this comment 💯!! This is one of the best stories I’ve heard in a while and your narration was superb as always. Amazing twist at the end I totally didn’t see coming. Loved this!! Listened several times actually as I’d fall asleep and keep starting it over hoping to finish. One of my new faves.
Agree and disagree. There were two isn’t victims. One who wasn’t told of the isn’t (Maggie) and the other who was told, but pushed it off as nonsense (dad). Who knows if Maggie’s fate would have changed if she was told; the isn’t was very clever.
Ireland has some really cool and amazing Mythology: Banshee, Leprechaun, kelpie, Púca and soooo many more. I'm *very* excited to see what this one could be!!! Thanks LH, when you post it *always* makes my night!
Kelpie is more of a scottish thing, but our equivalent is whats called a waterhorse its sorta the same slightly more benign but it'll still drown yah if yah piss it off
This should be a movie. I can't leave the comments without saying how much I enjoyed the variety of voices the narrator was able to conjure up. It was a beautiful and tragic tale and he was able convey it in such a way that it struck core of my soul. So thank you. Nothing really scares me. This gave me the chills.
Oh my gosh! This one was so excellently written/intriguing/sad... it makes my top 10 list easily - possibly top 5! Great job, as always, Stephen. Your voice work just keeps getting better and better!
I havent even finished it but this is one of my all time favorites! the isn't is such a great name with the classic 'trust no one' fear from shape changers like the thing that's so horrifying but then the twist with [spoiler alert!] maggie was amazing! both exactly what i had expected and so much more intense! I had assumed it would take the form of Maggie to hold hands with Luke but absolutely did not expect she was alays the Isn't! and maggie being margret was such a twisted touch i live it! edit: holy crap that ending so tragic! and the dad declaring the beef stew his favorite meal was foreshaddowing or setting up is end?!? 10/10 story!
It made him kiss his own grandaunt, ate her in front of him, and made him feel cowardly for that too! Now, THAT'S evil! 😬 King's IT has Nothing on the "Isn't" except inspirational guidance!
King already wrote a short story similar to this decades ago. *The Man in the Black Suit.* King is still King. This story has drawn inspiration from this.
Got the hammock tied up to both sides out my garage with the door up, big lighting/rain storm going on, soda on my lap, my pup laying next to me, and Lighthouse keeping us company. Southwest Michigan stormy nights are the best!
Thank you for always picking such excellent stories to narrate. I’m a huge fan of the Dark Somnium and have been skeptical about other narrators because my criteria is strict. I came across your video under a recommendation and took a shot in the dark. I’ve now been binging your videos during my daily runs! Your smooth voice, pronunciation, and overall narration makes it extremely easy to listen to during gym sessions. Even better that the volume is always the same in every video and there isn’t any overbearing music. I can’t tell you enough how you’ve changed the enjoyment of my longer runs. Keep going!
One of the best creepypasta I've heard in a while and you crushed it! I was genuinely unnerved a few times and felt some heartache for the kid when Maggie turned out to be the isn't.
I'm glad Maggie wasn't real. I would not have traded anything for her, but I absolutely would have punched the isn't in the face. So long as there is no trade, it's got its hands tied. I would be no match against it, but if it is trapped by the rules, punching it in the face would not warrant my death. A freebie, honestly.
Except...if you panic and something seemingly irrelevant gets left behind in your hurry to gtfo..(Both the 10 pound fish AND fishing rod), that thing smart enough to consider either if those items a "bargain". It is the part were you communicate with the "Isn't" that you DONT want to bargain which is the life saver. For as long as those words are not spoken out loud, and "Isn't" picked up one of your belongings...It pretty much has his invitation to your property to either "finish the bargain" or hear the words "I dont want to bargain". And the fact that "everyone you know" must follow these rules as well makes it kinda powerfull.
I always love how you tell a story! Your voice is melodic sounding when your telling every story. I really enjoy listening to you! Thank you so much!!❤
I live in the area this story takes place. There are some bizarre things around here. As soon as the grandma mentioned names and her encounter, I started wondering. Trying to word carefully for anyone reading comments while listening.
I've listened to this one a few times now. Really enjoy it. I wonder if the "isn't" is a result of/ connected to the terrible thing that her father did before moving the family from Ireland? Great narration as always. Can't wait for the next.
I like this guys voice because he doesn't go out of his way to sound overly mysterious or spooky when it's not needed. And when it does get spooky it's more effective. A lot of these readers just overdue the spooky voice factor and it gets annoying after a while.
Just when I've thought I've heard your best, like the "isn't", you bring even more! Fabulous narration and selection in this amazing story by GreyBuildings679. I couldn't wait to listen to a tale representative of half my heritage. I think my Mom would've enjoyed it too. Thank you and the author very much!!
Bravo, its an excellent one, I've been listening to your stories for a while, though never really got in early enough to post thanks One detail, red string bracelets are a real thing in various cultures. I wonder...if he would have stabbed the "Isn't" with "something red" if it would kill it or hurt it? This is why the knowledge of the folklore and a creature's weakness to "whatever" could he used in multiple ways besides warding. The Isn't appears powerful to us but to it's own kind it's probably more of a scavenger. It kind of amazing when you think of these monsters and their relation to us. You have wonder how their own view the ones like the Isn't. The best pasta was the Aiden vs The Wendigo pasta. That was the closest a creepypasta had gotten to using the actual folklore of the Wendigo.

Spoiler alerts below... Since the dad's office was dusty it made me wonder how long he'd actually been gone... how many of the interactions described here were actually the Isn't. He called the grandma away about the dishwasher just before she told Luke what would happen if he broke the rules. He got the grandma to abandon one of her rituals. The grandma said she never saw the Isn't be so bold and actually come into the house before. Maybe it had actuality been doing that for a while.
