Vito Scotti was pure genius- this guy was so damn unique - The comedic affects he added to his characters was so damn funny and unique - a real genius 👍👏😂
Remember him in an episode of Gunsmoke, where Sgt. Holly (Forest Tucker) is tracking outlaws who stole the military payroll? Holly finds him (playing an Indian) sitting in the road and questions him about whether he saw the outlaws? Scotti tells him everything and then says the outlaws are bad "waddies" because they "kickum him in the elbow"! Tucker gives him a quart of whiskey for his information. Later in the same segment, Kitty finds him sitting in the same place, but now very drunk. Kitty is following Holly and has Scotti get into her backboard rather than leave him sitting in the road to maybe get run over. Kitty catches up with the outlaws because Holly has already been there and has tied two of them and hauled them up by their heels to an attic beam in a cabin. Needless to say, they want to be let down. Scotti wants to scalp them, and says "bad waddies kickum me in the elbow", but Kitty tells him just to let them down. Scotti thinks a couple of seconds, then instead of just letting them down slowly, he gives a wry little smile and cuts their ropes resulting in them falling on their heads to the floor! I think his performance in this episode was pure comic genius!
I loved this character actor. He played an unctuous tailor in the gubernatorial candidate episode, an unctuous maitre d' in Any Old Port, and an unctuous doorman in another. He is a laugh riot.
Bob Best oh, that's right! Then he and columbo chatted over lunch at the shelter. "That is the prevailing rumor," he replied when columbo asked if this was beef stew.
Bob Best :)) I can't, Bob, other than a withering look he shoots the Peugeot, so, as parting gifts: after the withering look at Columbo's shoes in Any Old Port, "the... red wine steward, or the white wine steward?" and in Candidate for Crime when Columbo sez he and wife are going to an affair (bowling league dinner, $17.50/couple ), "oh, an affair... splendid."
hi laura: everybody gave his car dirty looks. my favorite car scene was in police captain/killer case, columbo went to car lot to see if victim's boyfriend had an alibi. he was a car salesmen who praised his car and offered $$ on trade in value. in cia/killer case he gave a speech written by the killer. in painter/killer/with many girl friends he was the hotel owner/bartender where the painter lived as a young man and committed his murder there.
Vitto was such an amazing versatile actor, definitely underrated. He appeared in many Columbo episodes from 1973 to 1989 as Vitto/Salvatore Defonte/Thomas Dolan/Mr. Grindell/Chadwick/The Maitre d'
i can watch this scene in a loop this is amazing and also when he was the attendant when columbo was trying to buy a suit.. that was a classic as well...
They don't make 'em like Vito Scotti anymore. The man could do more characters than any other actor I've ever seen in the screen. Just compare his performance here with the Japanese soldier that he played in an episode on Gilligan's Island. You can't get farther apart in these two characters. The man was incredibly talented. He also had a big heart, too, raising money for charity. And, from what I've read he was a superb cook, too.
"My wife does all the shopping". Mrs. Columbo's next shopping list: Tomatoes, shaving cream, detergent, funeral.
"She cries easily. She cries when she loses in bowling." 😂🤣😂

Vito Scotti is by far the finest comedic actor that ever played on the big screen!
I was a kid when I recall him from The Flying Nun 😂💜
Don't forget his Gilligan's Island appearances.

That’s a bold statement
Scotti was 9 years older than Falk, I can't see it here
Sergeant Schultz
I'm so happy this channel exists
why? for 3 minutes of an 1 and a 1/2 hour show?

That guy would make a used car salesman blush! At 1:16 the guy complimented Columbo prior to what was thereafter quite a sales pitch. Ha!
He’s such a great supporting actor.
This is really excellent acting, fantastic!
Somebody else bugging Columbo for a change!
😁 😂 😃 😄 😅 😆
Only Vito can turn a funeral into a sales pitch.
Now THAT is one of the best Salesman I have ever seen in action and Columbo?...the best antedote.
Vito was always great on Columbo but this interplay is probably my favorite
"hope to see you folks again real soon" said the undertaker.

This reminds me, I should make out my will.
That cat's creepier than a used hearse salesman on Halloween!
Like a vulture circling in
Ha, someone had fun writing this script.
Brilliant!🤣🤣
The usher was also the waiter in the episode "Any Old Port in a Storm"
He is funniest Columbo performers
How do his glasses stay on his face
What was his first name
Mr groundhell grundell
This was Swan Song with Johnny Cash
Noticed how Falk and Scotti have to hold back from completely busting out in laughter?
