Always found it cool that Sega licensed and ported several Japanese exclusive MSX and PC-88 games to the Master System to bulk up their library. These would be games no one in the west would have know even existed until fairly recently. Golvellius and Y's are others off the top of my head. But I must confess I did get this on SMS with my birthday money one year as a kid, really didn't enjoy it until it clicked years later.
They were really savvy about this, same with the arcade ports which is how we got games like Wonder Boy. Managing the ports themselves made sure they were quality. I enjoy the port of Ys a lot. I can see not liking this game in the 90s. By time this was released so many games would have outshined it which lends to the hidden gem aspect looking back at it decades later. Thanks again for watching Larry!
@@retroactivekev The only issue Issue I had with the SMS version of Y's is it's incredibly grind heavy, it's literally triple the amoubt of work you need to do compared to the Turbografx version. But no worries dude, you make great content!!!
Oh yeah it super is. Ys on the Famicom and SMS follow the original version closer and they need tons of grinding. I’m glad they fixed that for the TG16 version.
Juat played the GG version and was surprised to find out barely anyone has talked about it. Honestly this was a great video that summed up my thoughts as well.
Great vid! Can't believe I missed grabbing this game for the Master System. One thing that would be nice when covering several different versions would be including a visual indicator during all footage that reminds which version is being shown.
I wish I had known about it years ago as well. I was ordering SMS games on eBay in the early 2000s for a few bucks each. I’ll consider noting the footage more than once but that can get kind of cumbersome/redundant. Thanks for watching!
Damn this game does seem like a good amount of fun! Kind of reminds me of Magical Pop'n on the snes, if you have ever seen that game. This was a well made vid dude! Keep it up!
Absolutely love this game! So hapoy you introduced me to it. Because I watched you playing this on stream I lurchased the game gear version. The game is difficult but not to hard thay I think persistent players can figure ot out and have a good time. I will agree the last boss puzzle is rediculous but not to hard that it cant be figured out. Love this video and cant wait to find more master system and game gear games through you.
as is common with most msx ports to other home consoles they always had to cut a ton of content. Similar to metal gear solid. The reality is the msx version is always superior but no one in the west had an msx computer so you can't fault anyone for that.

I have seen Magical Pop’n, you have a good point. I’m going to add it to my 2022 stream/vid list. Thanks for watching! Glad you enjoyed it.
Got the GG version for Xmas 20 something years ago, it was a lot of fun! Didn't know about msx and SMS being different versions, gonna try them!
I wish I had experienced this game years ago!
Great looking game!
I absolutely love this game. In my case I only have the Master System version. Also, I really like your editing and commentary.
