Right!!! I caught up with you. I think that you should start with Milne Bay and insure that you get a solid defence force in place with Australian and British Naval Forces. If I also recall that you have no battleships available. A Battlecruiser and Battleship of the RN were sunk on 10th December 1941. So you might be stuck with Light Cruisers and Heavy Cruisers at first. You might consider using Subs and probably MTB's initially.

I would focus on Wake Island and take that back as equidistantly closer to that as a base of operations. As opposed to Midway. Or at least as a backup base for operation.
My experience dictates level 5 ports will not let you spawn ships. (At least in the Solomons campaign.) You can put them in for repair, but that's it. Battleships are useful in some ways, but the key to this map is carriers: Get them into good positions Protect your ships from enemies Strike the opponent's carriers Your encounter shows how much you need air cover. You can have larger formations than 12 planes in this version I believe. Did you notice that when you "reversed your turn" you straightened out and made yourself an easy target for the enemy panes? Staying in a tight circle is your best bet. When you make bombing attacks, you can't really target enemy ships when they are circling, and neither can the AI. Zeroes, Vals, and Kates = Japanese carrier. Bettys (twin engine) and Emilys (flying boats) are obviously land-based. Oscars are land-based, but Zeroes may also be land-based. Float planes could be anything. That's usually how the game breaks it down. Submarines are great as well especially in choke points, like those around New Guinea. Note that the US torpedoes have like an 80% dud rate. You can turn this off in the settings (recommended), but you'll find out out just how bad they are if you don't. The Japanese go HARD after Port Morseby and Milne Bay. While having a staging base at Tarawa and a secured Wake Island (for vision) are nice, dunno how you feel about losing the south. Thanks for deciding on this campaign. It's nice to see a fellow casual gamer taking on this scenario. There will be a learning curve, but that's part of the fun, right?
Finally someone who can pronounce Milne. I know it's not a common name, but it's a family name and hearing it mispronounced by other content creators was a serious distraction. I have a particular interest in equipment. I am hoping this mod brings us uncommon aircraft and naval units like others have done.
Why would you recommend cheating by reducing the torpedo dud rate? What is even the point of playing the game if all you are going to do is cheat the moment you encounter a sliver of difficulty?

The C3 is a work horse that can carry the maximum supplies and engineers and a goodly amount of troops. Not as good with troops as the Harris but a goodly amount. If you go to the steam discussion, you can get the latest version of this mod as well as detailed instructions on the installation. The newest update is tricky because it doesn't use the mod installer. I had issues and don't want to steer you in the wrong direction with bad instructions. You could try the Unofficial War on the Sea Discord as well.

Most of the ships become available at some point in 1942. I think the Baltimore class, late Essex and maybe the Iowas are 1943
