  • We picked up our NuCamp TaB400 from the NuCamp factory in Sugarcreek, Ohio and we take a look at the warranty repairs and the upgrades that they performed for us. Austin Jones, service manager, tells us exactly what his team did while they had our trailer at their facility.

    We purchased our 320 CS-S and picked it up from the factory in Sugarcreek Ohio around Sept 2018 and dealt with Austin to have our sway bar and electronic brake unit installed. Can't say enough about how professional he and his crew were. Before we arrived, we sent Austin an awful lot of emails with a ton of questions and he always replied, normally within 24-hrs. We had NEVER pulled a trailer so on our last day, one of Austin's crew took the time to talk us through towing, what to expect, and gave us some tips from his time as a long distance hauler. We just picked up our new 400 BD and waved a sad goodbye to the 320. Came down to the wife wanted a larger bathroom and a separate eating/sleeping area.

    This is the kind of exposure NuCamp needs as it's hard to find companies of this quality any more. Great products, great service. Everything they do is premium, just a smaller package than many of the other manufacturers. Looking forward to your review of the new solar set up next summer or fall as one of the concerns I've had is the 2 way fridge being so reliant on battery power rather than propane off grid and the radiant heating system being sufficient for the cooler temps and what load that would mean for the battery as we'll be doing a fair amount of off grid camping. We live in Canada so cold is a way of life here 3 seasons out of four.

    Thank you for another great video. I have been concerned that you needed warranty work and your explanation has relieved my anxiety. We have factory solar in our 400 and have been very pleased with its' performance. Our solar was installed in March 2018 and has the two 100 watt panels and RoHs controller which has worked very well. Even through a winter cover the solar panels have float charge on sunny days. The 400 has been under cover since mid-October and the batteries are at 100% (14.0 volts) reported by the bluetooth app (which I love the convenience).

    Can you describe the flooring problem a bit more. My 400 was I think produced in early 2018 or late 2017 (it still has the single 240 Ah battery). I've noticed a bit of softness in a few areas, and wondering if that might be the flooring material. It hasn't been a problem, at least yet, but if it was this material, then it would be nice to know I can get it fixed.
    BTW, that was an interesting video. You're going to love the Victron stuff, I have both the monitor and the solar controller, it works really nice. BTW, depending on how they wired in the monitor, mine gets it power directly from the battery, the power draw is so small that you can leave it on all winter with the battery switch off and it still works. Nice part is I can just walk up to the camper, pull out my phone and check the voltage and power levels on the camper without evening opening it. So far, only minimal voltage drop after a month in storage.

    • @TravelswithDelaney
      @TravelswithDelaney  5 лет назад

      I would suggest calling NuCamp about your trailer. If you give them your VIN#, they will be able to tell you if yours was one of them with the green core sub flooring. Ours was easy to tell as there was a line running from the front door to the bathroom wall. It was like the flooring was popping up and if you stepped on it, you could feel it go back down.
      I am really excited to try out the solar equipment. It seems everyone who has it has nothing but positive things to say about it.

    Love to hear how solar works in real life. Sunflare's claim of efficacy over longer span of hours can only be achieved through lowered reflectance which will only get you so much. The real key to solar efficiency is angle of incidence which is compromised by definition on RV fixed installations.

    Nice Oregon scenery there at 11:00, I-84 east bound :) What is the extra cost with having the battery monitor installed? Did you consider having the monitor installed up front by the other controls? Seems a bit "awkward" to have to check the battery from the bed area? Final stages of a factory 400 order and debating the options! I agree with comments on the panel, while NuCamp readily admits not a lot of track record yet, this seems like an awesome supplier change and if it holds up under long term UV exposure I think it will be a good change, one I am willing to take a risk on with our order.

    • @TravelswithDelaney

      I believe that controller was $300 extra. I am sure it could have been installed up front but this was a much easier install for them and I don't mind it being right beside my inverter plug. You could always request it in a different position as NuCamp is very accommodating.

      The "monitor" is more than just a visual gauge, it is installed with a shunt that reads ALL input and output to the battery, the app to control the solar charge controller only deals with the solar side. The monitor is BT enabled so it may be possible to see everything that the gauge shows on a smartphone though the app? Now mind you I am just a student at this point, BUT have read quite a bit about the Victron products and while I think I understand it all, I could be way off base. The model of the monitor is a BMV-712-smart. www.victronenergy.com/battery-monitors/bmv-712-smart

      I have heard about it and actually we had ours replaced for the same reason. My mother will not be getting the camper, but she wanted to see what I was interested in. So I shared your tour of the Tab. She loved it. And my sister may follow and be in the market for a camper as well. I told her how you can be an instrumental presence with all your tips/videos. I appreciate you.

      @@TravelswithDelaney Nice....do we need to make reservations, and if we do, who do I need to call and speak with? 😁

      @@putGodfirst_1 You will want to get a reservation as it will most likely fill up fairly quickly. I believe they are going to start taking reservations at the end of January or beginning of February. There is a facebook page for it: ucamp

    Whats the round thing in the plug by the door?

    • @TravelswithDelaney
      @TravelswithDelaney  5 лет назад

      It's a battery monitor and it has 2 USB plugs in it. It will tell you what voltage your battery is at approximately.

    I guess even the Amish show up for work with a hangover from time to time.

      This is probably the best built trailer of the 9 we have owned over the past 15 years.

    Did you have to pay for the furred bug strips? My windows let in every mosquito out there!!

    • @TravelswithDelaney
      @TravelswithDelaney  5 лет назад

      NuCamp provided the furry bug strips at no charge to us. Those little furry strips make a huge difference with bugs getting in.
