No, No don’t use newspaper on any food items because it has ink in it. Use Banana or plantain leaves to cover you food. You will still arrive at the same outcome.

Yes green banana leaves. Is a better choice..but first pass the leaf over the fire not too slow ..you don’t want it to burn ( it will make the leaf more flexible that way it makes a better cover ) and won’t tear up in pieces ..

Ms Dosha ,I really appreciated the work you are doing. But, I encouraged you to plan herbal plants around the kitchen: ginger, thym, persil, basil, lemongrass, melissa , sauge.
Create a stand besides the kitchen to wash the foods and put a big container to conserve the food waste to make compost and food for the goats and chicken.
Wonderful. You just need some maintenance.
    Nothing can replace natural life.
    All my respects.

I tend to agree about erecting a stand for the washing-up. In fact, I think there is too much bending over to do chores---knocking together a few tables and workspaces would make life easier for you.

Thank you, Miss Dosha! I enjoy your videos, and have shared them with students at university in Detroit, Michigan, USA. They tell me they also enjoy your videos. Much of what you show about life in a village in coastal Kenya is similar to life in rural Haiti, whose people mainly were taken there from southern Benin (Dahomey) in West Africa--making coconut milk for the rice, covering the rice with banana leaves, then the aluminum lid, using a lot of ginger and garlic in cooking, etc.

We wash rice, put about 2 inches of water over rice add salt, boil uncovered until no more water covers rice, put lid on and cook very low for about 20 min. These measurements are for about the size of the pot u r using. If the rice is not cooked enough add more water @ a half cup and continue to simmer. Don’t spoon rice out while it is cooking, just take a few grains off top to check if it is done. That food that you cooked does not look tasty to me.
