    Became an electrician seven years ago after spending twenty years working in an office. Now five year into running my own business. Never looked back. Business doing very well. As the guy said, it's very hard work and you do need to be fit but it's very rewarding.

    I am a fully qualified Electricain, and I average £2500-£3000 a month! I only trained for two years and now I am loving it! Best advice to anyone thinking of doing any trade is, go to a private college. Take a loan and pay for the course yourself as aposed to going to a council run college. Private college's tend to teach you exactly what you need to know, and put that with onsite experience you will be on to a sure thing.There is alot of money out there to be earned for trades people,Good luck

    I'm a qualified electrician in Australia. I work on an oil rig off the coast of Western Australia earning $190/hour (£121/hour). I started off on $8/hour (£5/hour) as an apprentice and have worked my way up, continually updating my skills set. An 18 year old I know has just started an electrical apprenticeship on the mines in Western Australia and is earning $76,000 a year (£49,000/year) in his first year.

      In the US 3 options.
      1. Costly college schooling for 2-4 years before enrolling into 3-5 year apprenticeship
      2. Go to a trade school for a brief 2 months and apply to start apprenticeship.
      4. Apply to local union
      College will yield higher salary longer run likely and union is competitive (high salary) and trade school quickest way to get into feild

That's why we have professionals that knows how it works and how it's done safely and efficiently --> these professionals are what we call electricians. There are a huge variety of different places to work depending on where and what company you apply for, just like any other job the experiences with different workplaces will vary A LOT. When it comes to choosing jobs; don't make your decision based on people saying "do this and don't do that", find something you think is interesting and try it! Remember that work will be a large part of your life and for whatever you settle with --> make sure you enjoy it ;)

    Screw being an electrician. This guy is funny. "You have to be fit" "it's dangerous" haha no, you don't have to be fit and it's a Cinderella trade. Did it for years. Became a union ironworker and I couldn't be happier. Yes it's way more dangerous but also more rewarding

    • @mcgoo721
      @mcgoo721 9 лет назад

      I partially agree, but its because I'm a pretty thorough worker. There is a ton of power going through industrial lines. Its pretty easy to make sure you're working safely, but shit does happen. When my dad was in Uruguay on assignment last year, a local diesel electrician died on the jobsite. Not on my dad's machine, just in the same grounds. Also any trade compared to an admin or service job requires you to be more fit.
      you just always have to respect the machine/equipment or you're going to have a bad day heh.
