Fiji would still have found a way to score if that try was not counted. The whole game structure as we now know would have changed too if the try was disallowed. Ireland were given multiple opportunties with probably 80% possession and some penalties going their way that looked wrong but they didn't take any of those chances.
For me, sevens at the Olympics are the best door to a wider audience. Let's face it, in most countries (mine included) rugby is a very minor sport. But the huge audience that gets to see the sevens at the Olympics every four years might slowly move it more into a mainstream sport in other places than in just "Commonwealth and Friends". :-)
Blatant knock on. The Fijian knew it was possibly their last chance to regain possession... and made sure to hit that ball one way or the other. How the ref and linesmen can choose that decisive moment to fall asleep on the job... well its beyond belief. Watched a lot of 7s games over last few years. Was really pumped for the Olympics. But have to say, the ridiculousness and importance of that mistake... really put me off overall. Not just that one, obviously. Its happening all over the place not just in this game. The reffing has been awful throughout the tournament. But random incorrect and inconsistent ref decisions determining outcomes so directly (and sending a team home seconds from a historic win) just sucks the enjoyment out of any sport. Congrats to Fiji... they fought hard like the champs they are... never gave up... and it was nothing to do with them that the ref ruined it for our side.
Did you see Ireland's tries? One of them had his leg in touch and the amount of penalties given to Ireland was ridiculous and uncalled for, Ireland didn't take their chances. And the fact remains that Fiji would have still scored despite that knock on that was called that looked backwards.
@@gustaaf1892 This is all rationalizing nonsense. The original irish try was checked by TMO. An “opinion” doesn’t overrule that. And as for other mid-game things… Everyone knows there will be random 50-50 calls that could be mistakes at certain constant random moments during any games 7s and 15s. This was NOT that. The possible final kick off was coming and both teams were playing for their career legacies and knew it. The Fijians set up to give it everything to regain possession and make contact with that high ball one way or the other. Ireland set Keenan right under it at same time. He had his hands on it and it got SLAPPED OUT OF HIS HANDS FORWARD to stop him catching it. It was literally ALL the refs needed to be focussed on at that moment. And it is clearly ridiculous that a direct action leading to the winning try from a forced foul ball… “can’t be checked”.

I was in the Srade de France, it was a clear knock on to me (I was on the other side of the pitch though) . Through the roof that France did make their first impressive performance in the tournament when it started to matter. Great tactic, solidarity and composure ❤
7's predictions are far more difficult than 15 a side. France and Fiji must be favorite to advance, but write the Boks off as underdogs your own peril. The booing crowd might galvanized the Boks yet again. At the RWC I was backing the Boks/France winner to win the Tournament and I am going to back these 2 teams again to win Gold. It will be boring if Fiji won it for a 3rd time.
Even if that was a knock on, it would never be checked because those are the rules in 7s unfortunately. They can only check foul play, touch line and grounding. Not try Buildup
As Ireland’s game is all about efficiency, we cannot make any mistakes against a team like Fiji (possible knock on but if you cough up two tries in 30sec in a game like this it’s over). Conroy was a huge loss as he is Ireland’s only real X factor player. 7s really is its own game - Zac Ward, who probably wouldn’t make any of the Irish provincial teams was outstanding all tournament. Hugo Keenan, one of the best 15s full backs in the world added almost nothing 🤷♀️
How many times have Fiji been robbed too? , but take it in their strides. These comment reviews are a one man perspective. You can feel he's anti Fijian.
Well, Ireland can feel hard done by on several fronts: the obvious knock on from Fiji, the very un-Fiji like performance of cheap shots, cynical penalties and one shoulder to the head challenge that was a straight red in the 15's game. How many penalties in succession is a team yellow? Gone off Fiji.
It was definatly a knock on but it's not scandalous at all. In 7s it's an actual law that the TMO can only intervene for grounding, touch line and foul play. They cannot intervene for try buildup Plus I think fiji would have found a way to win anyway
@@Forest9528 Its scandalous... because the ref and linesmen fell asleep on the job... missing a blatant forced knock on... at the very moment the game was in the balance!
