Slayer was/is definitely the major entry point for many metalheads into the harder thrash/death metal style. They have enough variety in their sound to catch the interest of most listeners that are open to the genre. That being said.. the main points that seem to keep people 'out' are the vocals and the speed. I, personally, like the vocals so no hate from me. This is the difference between a drummer like Dave Lombardo and Lars from Metallica. I love Metallica and think Lars is fine, but it's rhythmically boring. Slayer's fun because they have all kinds of crazy beats.

Sepultura - Start with ' CHAOS A.D. ' album. Then work your way backwards until you don't like it. Then go forward from CHAOS A.D. until you don't like it. Serious Grooves that I believe you'll get into.

I used to sing in a thrash band so my love for the genre runs deep, even if it's not really my jams these days.
