Yeah that is excellent point how India being a democracy can support Regime like Russia.
We most Indians love Russia for things they have done for us as you know (also some Indians are not aware of dark side of Russia).
So what I have come to understand that yes we are a democracy and would like to reject Russian politics but you can’t. When as a democracy India was under threat from western democracies who were supporting Pakistani generals and arming Pakistani terrorists they were basically okay with Pakistan using terrorists to kill Indians. All because west had its interest to support Pakistan and was okay to sacrifice Indian democracy. And since Soviets supported us on every moment so we can’t go against them even if we want because our relation is time tested.
Russia support India on critical issues. On the other we can’t yet trust America and whole west. They supported Pakistan for their interest against democracy and even were ready to attack India to save Pakistani military who was committing genocide and raping women in east Pakistan. What stop them again changing their mind about India???
Point is Russia understand what is important to India and support India, India do not raise its voice against Russia although they might be doing wrong.
If west had supported us from the start and we did not had this positive interaction with Soviet Union I am 100 certain india would be criticising and sending aid to Ukraine.
Our first interaction with west as independent country was bad one.
Same thing do America they preach about democracy yet support terrorists and dictatorship for their interest. If they were hardcore on democracy China wouldn’t have what it is today. I ramble a lot, but I hope you understand what I mean. Also these are my views I don’t know how whole India think about this

You said Indians don't know the Dark Side of Russia.
My point is,, do we Indians ,, really know about the "Dark History" of the so-called ,,,,,,,
      Democratic Western Powers ?

    • @TGill22
      @TGill22 6 месяцев назад

@@vipinpuri1855 look brother I am not here to argue about who is more vicious or evil west or Russia.
She was making a good point on Russia India relations and I tried to explain it.
Now you pick a one line to argue or trying to say oh west did this but I still would like to say.
Both are evil, but Russia is more dangerous. US killed millions in the name of democracy and was okay with Pakistan killing us. Now replace the same USA with Russia, Russia would have done the same.
Now why Russia is more dangerous. It is simple, if I say something or done something against regime in Russia, I will never be found again. In western democracies, I would get arrested, maybe killed in some accident but after sometime it would eventually come out and the government have to pay the price.
Point is at the end government is accountable but Putin or any dictator not.
If tomorrow Putin decide to go against India there is nothing stopping him, but if west do they can be manageable to what extent I don’t know.
Both are bad, when it comes to national interest both parties will react ruthlessly.
India I believe would do the same. Because we are not at the top so it is bit easy for us. We are not dictating or controlling the world so we don’t have to make those tough decisions.
Or do you think if India become superpower and control half the world we will be like god or like saint. This is not how worlds works. Governments have to decide what is best for them even if it means going against your values. How you go about it make you evil less evil but you will be evil no matter what or how hard you try to be impartial.

This is not true. IITians had zero role in the success of ISRO. ISRO comprised of people like APJ Abdul Kalam and Nambi Narayanan who just had a diploma or were Science graduates. Today ISRO has more than 20K engineers but they are still using the VIKAS engine developed by Nambi. Most IITians in the 60s, 70s and 80s did their graduation and went abroad to make the West rich. Indian science progressed because of ordinary people from lower middle class families who were interested in Science. Please read Wings of Fire by APJ Abdul Kalam to learn more about India’s space journey. Nowadays days the IITians are staying back in India and that is because there are opportunities here. IIT education was subsidised but these students completed their education qnd went abroad. Gaurav is unaware that the contribution of IIT is close to zero. It was institutes like the Indian Institute of Science and Tata Institute of Fundamental Research who have played an important role.

11:15 - The way Bharat has always perceived foreign relations is through the lens of equanimity and respect. We respect diversity of opinion and thought. There may be different ways of thinking and governing a state and we are not to question a sovereign state, which is (Not adversarial) to our interests. As a democratic nation we look at how to protect our interests first instead of trying to preach or bomb our democratic values on another country. We understand the situation which led to the communist revolution in Russia (erst. USSR) and respect their choice. If a significant majority of people would want to change the state of affairs in their country, then no power on earth can stop them. (Breaking up of USSR), Civil war in Myanmar against junta. We believe that we are not hegemons of the world, as famously quoted by American president when a reporter inquired about the US support to a dictator while bombing others - It was Roosevelt who made the often-quoted remark about the dictator of Nicaragua, Anastasio Somoza: “Somoza may be a son of a bitch, but he’s our son of a bitch.” We are not hypocrites, we believe in a diverse world, "live and let live." We want to prosper and as long as you are not an adversary you are a friend (We are Vishvamitra (Friend of the globe)), we want to exemplify a state which is intellectually, spiritually, and materially prosperous, hence we do not have to prove anything to anyone. Just like the capitalistic western European countries did not have to promote capitalism to eastern Germany, they themselves wanted change after visiting the developed nation. We will be a Vishva guru (Guru to the world), when we ourselves achieve the gold standard of morals and ethics. We realize that we are not there yet and have no right to criticize other sovereign nations. Hope this helps clear some doubts... :)

Most of us don't like democracy. Democracy selects popular leaders rather than the most able one. We as a people believe in autocracy where the leader is selected as per the merit. When you give everything to your leader then the leader will lose interest in the material things and will do everything to uplift its people. We want the current party to rule for at least 20 years. They also know that.

Russia India ties flourishes even after being two countries of different political ideologies because first of all India and Indians in general are people with a mindset of "live and let live" so we don't care how Russians rule their country as long as we can do what we what and exercise our sovereignty, and Russia also respects this part of our culture as it does not interfere in our domestic politics unlike US and China. Moreover i live in Uttarakhand and have talked to many Russian tourists and they don't seem to have any problem with Putin they say life is Russia is very similar to any other country.
Another thing that helps is india russia are natural allies i.e more often then not we have coinciding interests whether it is in trade or in space sector or in the arctic.
Not only that Russia India ties and bonhomie is not only because of 1971 but also because of the help they gave us in the heavy industry sector like energy and steel sector all while helping India in international forums and doing joint research with india when no one else wanted to.... so yeah russo-indian ties are very deep and time tested.

India doesn't want to impose its version of democracy or its ideology to other countries. India doesn't poke its nose into the internal matters of other countries. If Russia and China were democratic, of course we would have appreciated them. But if they are not then its their internal issue, we are nobody to impose our thoughts onto them unlike the USA. We're no saviours.

We take a nuanced and more pragmatic view of the world, unlike west we do not want to impose our values on another country or society, our relation with Russia is more interest based not value based. The west have their superiority complex, and tends to preach the world that their way is superior and we all must follow. We dont preach Russia. We deal with Putin, and we will deal with whoever comes after. We just know, democracy works best for us so we preserve it, and we don't seek western validation of our democratic credentials, similarly we dont go and meddle into other country's internal matter, unless its spilling into our country.

Indians as a democratic nation supporting Russia isn't confusing if you look at it in a very simple way.
Imagine a person with a shotgun living across the street who you went to school with and also is your office colleague. Suppose you have a deadly beef with that person. It doesn't matter if i have something common with my gangster neighbour or not, he'll be my best friend. Should he come and save me from a mess, I'll be indebted to him forever. Common values don't matter when your perceived friend becomes your enemy and a stranger saves you.
And btw, Boris johnson was the PM of UK who resigned after failure to manage COVID and gas prices. He resigned just 2-3 years ago.

So with Russia, it's a simple strategy in geopolitics explained by Chanakya, your neighbour's neighbour is has to be your friend, because you two have the same everlasting neighbor. That's what makes India aligned with Russia in so many situations. Also Russia's friendship is a historically trusted one, during India Pakistan war, the UK and USA both sided with Pakistan which was a dictator led state then. So it's simple that if it has happened once it can repeat aswell.

I mean the Russian policies have been friendly for india and so does the indian politics... And Putin is not the bad person... And also, we used to have common enemy back in time... And even today also, when we have good relations with USA, USA keeps decent ties with Pakistan to keep india in check and at the same time to keep China in check they become good with india....
So USA's friendship has been situational... Whereas Russian support has always been unconditional...

We can easily be a developed country in next 25 year as we don't believe in materialistic life. More hardwork, stable govt, sincere effort by govt n citizens both, can make things lot easier. We were contributing almost 40% to world GDP in past and least was 25% just 300 years back. So achievable target.

Definition of democracy doesn't means poking nose in others business ...yes we are democracy but we don't poke our nose in others matters ....if the Russian don't have problem with putting if they are not standing against him...why would we? And what is the objective.....and ultimately it is a nation first policy so we will do what benefits indian and yes Russia is an old friend but this not the kind of friend ship we often see around our neighborhood

We didn't criticized west either for invadding Vietnam, iraq, libiya, Serbia, Falkland.
We understand these situ6r complex and we have no moral ground to lecture anyone.

it is our basic culture, we do not force our ideology on others and can have relations with someone of exactly opposite idelogy.
(practical example- different sects of hindus and some of them have exactly opposite views but still there is not conflict, even with other dharmic religions like jainism and buddhism)

Hi, the very pertinent question at @11.04. See, India's worldview is not ideology-based. Our foreign policy is based on realism. This stems from our culture as well, we are very open to having different viewpoints within our families, states etc. Therefore, you will not see, India commenting on other county's internal affairs. What does this mean for practical purposes? We can't dictate or change the way other countries, societies, and communities want to do their affairs. We have nothing to do with how Afghans treat their women, Putin shuns opponents, American kids get gun access, Arabs care about religion etc. What matters to us is our interests and we are very open about it.
This is in stark contrast with the Western (Anglo-Saxon, US allies, and MAJORITY of Europe ) worldview (Ik you emphasize on diversity of Europe) where both foreign policy and public opinion are shaped by liberal (neoliberal/pseudo-liberal) values. Why do I call it, pseudo-liberal? Because West shows an incredible level of hypocrisy as far as these values and more importantly narrative building are concerned. It has destroyed and betrayed many countries by creating this public opinion to garner support for their undemocratic actions. More importantly, by creating this narrative, the West can make the public feel that you are on the good side, on high moral ground. You already have seen Dr. Jaishankar getting hounded by the Western press on matters like Democracy in India, freedom of the press, Russian oil, etc.
I may not be that articulate but if you want a more academic explanation of this, do read our democratic peace theory vs realism theory. Professor, John J. Mearsheimer from Yale has excellent lectures on these.
I am linking a few good videos, don't be taken back by the video titles.

Reference North East (NE) : Internal viewpoint : Whether there are sizeable population or not, we need to make civic amenities available to them within 3 hours. There fore raods are necessary.
External viewpoint : Because NE was left like that, the chinese funded militia in neighbouring Burma. They come in and go out of India at will. This Burmese territories are the biggest hub of opium, heroine and maybe cocaine. Excellent quality hashish is grown there. The profits are also taken by the chinese. Any gun of any make is available there inside Indian territory.

To answer ur question bout Bharat -russia.....its easy. Russia mind their business, we mind ours. We help each other out when necessary, and keep our respective noses out of each others' business. If russia has problem with putin, russians will take care of it themselves.....same goes for Bharat. Its exactly opposite of "interference"

regarding india being developed by 2047 ....he is counting on Indias demographic dividend [young population] , if we can generate enough jobs for huge population than surely we can get developed otherwise not .
north east or Seven Sisters states is a very ethnically diverse region with difficult terrain less population and conflicts of all sorts......its different in many ways but the reason its hard for inner india to mingle with them is because of language barrier and the way they look , not talking about complexion here [also not demeaning in any way ] ....lets just say they don't look like the typical Indians you imagine , so the central Indians and others confuse them with different nationality , but now things are changing .
nowadays people and the government have started giving more attention....also Arunachal Pradesh is a disputed area with china .

  • @RG-un2vl

Don’t know what happened to my previous comment but essentially India is a culturally vibrant, religiously sound, historically ancient, fiercely independent, extremely viable non western democracy of a native majority population which the west is not ok with and constantly wants to change or convert to their ways and religion by interference, hypocrisy and bullying, but Russia is fine with(with major lapses mostly in the 60s and 70’s,non recently)and the feeling is reciprocated. India is still not hostile to the west because in principle( on paper) its democracy is closer to the west than Russian communism. So if Europe and the US stops to constantly interfere and try to change India into a western style democratic vassal state to satisfy their ego and insecurities,India can be an extremely good friend to the west. But old habits die hard.

Indias relationship with Russia should be seen in two sets
    .
one is peoples point of view ... people have a soft corner and love towards Russia which is purely emotional as it comes out of pure gratitude ... reason for it is the whole world cornered us when we were poor n suffering and only USSR came to the rescue
    .
Second is Govt to Govt relationship ... it is purely a interest based relationship ... Though we r democratic we cant go against russia and strain our relationships because that might have a negative impact on our public interest ... ultimately a country should consider its public in terests first or else they might suffer like the european nations who kept the interests of their public aside and funding the war.
    .
That doesnt mean Indian wont go against Russia , infact India voted against Russia in UN when felt necessary but we wont spoil our relationships ... Geopolitics is not a short term game we should think for the future ...
