Super black hole is banging. Matt Bellamy is a genuine guitar god. You should see his tripped out guitars and the lead breaks he plays. We don't have many new guitar legends spring up in the last 20-30 years that play a proper shred, but he is certainly one of them.

Now you're both aware of who the members of Muse are (Matt Bellamy, the frontman, at minimum), there's a must-see video for you to see - when promoting their album The Resistance, they went to Italy and performed on a chat show, but were told they weren't allowed to play live - so rather than protest, all three members switched places, with Matt on drums, having the time of his life. It's called "Muse playback on Italian TV show". Enjoy, fellas!

Some personal Muse live set highlights... Glastonbury 2004, 2010, 2016 (yep they headlined Glasto 3 times!) Saitama Super Arena Japan 2013, iTunes festival 2012, Reading festival 2006, 2011, 2017, Rock in Rio 2013, Royal Albert Hall, Rome Olympic stadium 2013 and their home coming Teignmouth Devon 2009. The earlier years were much more raw rock and the later years much more refined musicaly and technically. Both have their merits. Matts fulsetto voice really was something other worldly in the earlier years tho.
I would start at the beginning and work through the years as they really have evolved. Glastonburry 2004 is a great place to start for someone new to Muse. I was there and the crowd really didn't know what was happening. There was a genuine feeling of open-jawed awe amongst the crowd. Many had never had heard of Muse. Every single person there that night had their musical lives changed. It really was a shock and awe experience.

One song no one has mentioned is 'Psycho', which always gets the crowd going - not the most sophisticated song they've ever done, but watch the 'Live from Roskilde Festival 2015' or 'Live from Muse: Drones World Tour' videos - the latter tour they played in the round. Also, the new album 'Will of the People' is out on 26th August - guessing they will be touring to support it...

You have a very valid point about what gets played on American radio. It’s funny you mentioned it on this song in particular. Maverick Records refused to release this album, Origin of Symmetry, in the US unless Muse re-recorded parts without the falsetto. The whole album has a lot of it, but they particularly objected to this song. I guess because it was slated as a single? Anyway, the band refused. The album didn’t get a US release until 4 years later after the following album! American record companies and radio seems to think that the general public is rather dim-witted and can’t handle anything that falls outside of an extremely narrow set of parameters. Muse usually doesn’t fit in that mold, so most people have only heard a few non-representative songs. You’re right, it makes me wonder how many bands I’ve misjudged…
Anyway, nice reaction! I will definitely tune in for more. Everyone else is right that they’re the best live, but the studio recordings are also worthwhile. Glad you enjoyed this one!

I never found out what this song is truly about exactly, but I've always kinda figured he was singing about his guitar. His "Plug In Baby" so to speak.
Maybe I'm right, maybe I'm wrong. Maybe both? That's the great thing about music, or art in general, you can derive multiple meanings from it depending on the way you look at it.

    • @robbieshand6139
      @robbieshand6139 2 года назад

The funny thing is, Muse themselves don't really know what the song is about either! They were asked in an interview what it is about and they said they couldn't remember, they were really high on shrooms when they recorded it! The 'plug-in baby' line apparently refers to the baby monitors parents have. Funny that one of their biggest live songs that everyone sings along to and no one knows what it's about. 😂

So you're basically saying that Muse are Wyld Stallyns. The record that this track was on was so ahead of its time and even came as a multi media CD. Also it took ages for Muse to become big in Britain. I remember being at Glastonbury when they were playing on the Other Stage around 2000ish and I was going crazy whilst everyone else around me looked completely confused. The lead singer reminds me of Kenneth Williams for some reason.

I saw muse for the first time in 2011 when they headlined leeds festival (and reading) which was the second time they had headlined, and they’ve headlined Glastonbury 3 bloody times. Just shows how massive they are over here and they always put on an amazing live show. Hysteria and Stockholm syndrome as many others have suggested you’re deffo gonna love!

Strangely, US Televison cut out Muse playing at the London 2012 Olympic closing ceremony. Maybe Muse was too raw or 'threatening' for the sainitised TV coverage?....BTW checkout 'Supremacy (Official Video)' - could easily be a Bond theme.. - or the live version at the Brit Awards 2013. Awesome!

Quite funny you say that as there was a fe wreasons this wasn't as big in the US at the time Korn and Slipknot were like the top bands out at the time so they didn't think matts falsetto would have a market, also they said they(record labels) were critical of the studio recording of the first and second(this) album so Muse didn't really hit the US until their third album. And still wasn't until uprising (take the power back song) on their fifth! main album that they started getting mainstream attention in the US.
Also this song has been voted by a few music magazines best guitar riff of the 21st Century/00's which is even more impressive considering it came out in 2001.
Also like this song Hysteria solid follow up Bass line leading song, Supermassive Black hole or Stockholm Syndrome.
Fancy something more left field to show the bands talent give a listen to
Space Dementia (from this album) a rock piano ballad,
Micro cuts (from this album) Fully falsetto chaotic Heavy rock [p.s. listen to the original album mix as towards the end as they add in full panning on headphones to truly make it feel chaotic]
Showbiz (from the album Showbiz) a building emotion driven rollercoaster, [with jumanji drums as I like to call them].
    :)
