The tone Clapton uses on this song and throughout this album ranks among his best, and personally my favorite of his entire catalogue. Gets me everytime.
Mere mortals would have been satisfied with the first half of that killer solo, but Eric took the second half to a place mere mortals fear to tread. In my book, the all-time greatest guitar solo.
The first time I heard this album, I was so excited to see EC go back to his roots. I agree with you that this is (one of) the greatest solos ever captured on record. I would offer, as perhaps this song being #1, as number #1A, Stevie Ray playing Buddy Guy's Leave My Little Girl Alone, from the In Step album. Blistering and the second half of THAT song stands next to or above anything anyone has ever done. Btw, you want the volume turned to "STUN"!
On this day in 1994 {September 24th} Eric Clapton performed "Five Long Years" on the NBC-TV program 'Saturday Night Live'... The song was track five from his 'From the Cradle' album, which was released on Sept. 13th, 1994... It was composed and originally recorded by Eddie Boyd in 1952, and on Nov. 8th, 1952 reached #1 {for 7 weeks} on Billboard's R&B Best Sellers chart... This SNL episode was its 20th season premier show... RIP Mr. Boyd {1914 - 1994} & 'Slowhand' turns 69 next March 30th...
There have only been 2 songs that I’ve heard in my life that I thought were musically perfect; Eric Clapton’s “5 Long Years,” and John Coltrane’s “Dear Lord.” Those tunes are timeless.
Clapton has been, is and always will be the best!!! I'm in doubt though weather this is my favorite solo from him or the one in "Just Like a Prisoner". But again, everything he does is so perfect, it's difficult to tell.
Eric Clapton - guitar, vocals, producer Dave Bronze - bass guitar Jim Keltner - drums Andy Fairweather Low - guitar Jerry Portnoy - harmonica Chris Stainton - keyboards Roddy Lorimer - trumpet Simon Clarke - baritone saxophone Tim Sanders - tenor saxophone Eddie Boyd - songwriter Russ Titelman - producer, mixing Props & respect to Junior Parker, John Lee Hooker, the Yardbirds, Muddy Waters, Long John Baldry, Ike & Tina Turner, Bobby "Blue" Bland, Freddie King, B.B. King, & Buddy Guy, who all inspired this version.
HOLY COW!!! Clapton really rocks out the 90s Blues-Rock on this one! In-Fact I always think of a sleazy 90s roughneck-bar Everytime I hear this to be honest.
Снова обращаю свой взгляд на один из лучших альбомов Клэптона. На From The Cradle (1994), полностью состоящем из кавер-версий блюзовой классики, Клэптон демонстрирует тонкое понимание блюза и превосходную технику исполнения. Версия Five Long Years Эдди Бойда, просто потрясающая. На наших глазах обычный 12-тактовый блюз, превращается в грандиозное творение...
This is where Black Sabbath got it from. Sure you add the Tritone and Harmonic Minor, but at the end of the day, Heavy Metal came from Blues. And some bands still have the feel
If you've ever been mistreated You know just what I'm talkin' about I work five long years for one woman, and she had the nerve to put me out I got a job at a steel mill I'm shucking steel just like a slave Five long years, every friday y'all I went straight home yeah, I went straight home Lord but a finally learned a lesson I should have known long time ago The next woman I marry, she gotta have two jobs And she gotta go out and work long and bring some dough home.
I can't express how much I love Claptons music. He was my first concert ever, a surprise from my mom at 15 years old. He truly has been a major part of my life's soundtrack🎸🎸🎧🎧. Bell-bottom blues ranking as my favorite of all time. The man can still rip into the guitar after all these years. If he isn't God, than God surly blessed him with the ability to Rock :)
Lord, if you've ever been mistreated Then you got to, you got to know just what I'm talkin' about Yes, have you ever been mistreated? Then you got to, you got to know just what I'm talkin' about Lord I work five long years for one woman, And she had the, nerve, to kick me out I got a job at a steel mill, I'm shucking steel just like a slave Five long years, every Friday y'all I went straight home yeah, I went straight home Mistreated Then you got to, You got to know just what I'm talkin' about Lord I work five long years for one woman, And she had the nerve, to kick me out Lord but I finally learned a lesson, I should have known long time ago The next woman I marry, she gotta have two jobs, And she gotta go out and work long and bring some dough home Lord, said I been mistreated And you got to, you got to know just what I'm talkin' about Lord I work five long years for one woman, And she had the nerve, to kick me out Have you ever been mistreated? Then you got to, You got to know just what I'm talkin' about Yes, have you ever been mistreated? Then you got to, You got to know just what I'm talking about? Lord I work five long years for one woman, And she had the nerve to kick me out I got a job at a steel mill, I'm shucking steel just like a slave Five long years, every Friday yes y'all I went straight home, I went straight home with all my pay Yes, I've been mistreated And you got to, You got to know just what I'm talking about Lord I work five long years for one woman, And she had the nerve, to kick me out Lord, I finally learned a lesson, I should have known a long time ago The next woman I marry, she gotta have two jobs, And she gotta go out and work and bringing home some dough I've been mistreated, And you, you know just what I'm talking about I work five long years for one woman, And she had the nerves to kick me out

Def the notes but the tone is a bit fuzz face
@@gssong7111 This was when he started playing the tweed Bandmasters and cranking the crap out of them. Now his Bandmasters are modded by Dumble.
Mere mortals would have been satisfied with the first half of that killer solo, but Eric took the second half to a place mere mortals fear to tread. In my book, the all-time greatest guitar solo.
It's one of the nastiest, grittiest, most beautiful solos. He's really speaking to you through the guitar, just amazing.
My thought EXACTLY

it is super good lol. I liked that he used laced sensor pickups
This is why Clapton is god
Glad I am not alone in thinking this was a stand out solo. The intro really grabs me, and beats me up completely.
that describes what it does to me as well....as if it just pummels you, and says you're gonna listen, and listen good
This album changed my life.
I
love
it
Absolutely a turning point for me.
Mine too just now.
Same
Eric Clapton has played the sound track of my life for the past 40 years. He is my muse. Great licks and lyrics.

90s blues rock song that was written in 1952.
True Enough. Welp, 90s Blues-Rock would never exist without 1950s Blues and Rock N Roll.
