The realistic art style of 90's fire emblem games are one of my favourite . I wish that someone would make a hack of fire emblem gba games, that would look like fire emblem from 90's ( with full sized characters and visible ground between archers or mages that attack their opponents from distance ) of course with more aesthetic look than the way it was in fire emblem 4 or 5 .
If there does end up being an FE4 remake I would like to see an updated version of the portraits but not necessarily a whole new art style. It can be a dark game so hope it doesn’t look like engage at least…
I just found you by accident when I was looking up Fire Emblem because I’m working on getting My GBA collection back after I gave it away due to my GBA breaking down from overuse. But thanks to my best friend giving me his GBA as a gift and gifting me 2nd one as a spare. (I plan to get a 3rd GBA) I have been on the hunt for GBA games.
GBA hater here, while I definitely like them more than a lot of other games in the series, I think they're quite a letdown after the highs of the SNES era. The stories are generic macguffin hunts, the animations look fun but aren't dynamic anymore and they just miss a ton of great features from Mystery, Genealogy and Thracia like dismounting and leadership stars. (and dare I say capture) I think their biggest achievement is actually the massive UI improvement of the simple battle forecast, it genuinely makes the games a lot quicker and accessible. Really can't understate how much difference it makes to see exactly how much damage I will do, take and who doubles. I also really love the romhacking scene around them.
I kinda wish they would go back to a full pixel art style at least once to combine the dynamic snes and flashy gba animations. Playing the GBA games makes me feel like a speedrunner and playing genealogy makes me feel like I’ve aged an extra 10 years (still love the story, characters, etc though)
The peak of fire emblem : Thracia lite, Thracia lite 2, Thracia lite 3 feat. Gaiden. :) I feel like Intelligent System was too cautious about not changing mecanics. They kinda did in SS but imo it was not enough, maybe if there were only 2 gba games ? Peak fire emblem is Berwick saga.
Don't feel guilty about pirating Nintendo games. I believe it's immoral to support Nintendo at this point, especially with older hardware. 20+ years old games should be free.
True. Can’t even play the first couple fire emblem games in a language other than Japanese without the help of emulation and the wonderful fan translations!
I agree, unless there's a good remaster/port on modern platforms, old games should become abandonware, therefore free. Even if you buy the original disc or cartridge second-handed, you won't give the developers or Nintendo any money anyways so it's almost the same as getting yourself a nice pirated copy
Yeah, can't say that I agree with this statement. To address a couple of the points you brought up (I am paraphrasing from memory, since the RUclips App is cumbersome to write comments in) -"The animations are some of the best" Personally, I always found the animations here to be just a little overhyped. They are over the top, and I agree that that is cool. But so are the animations in many other games? Fates, SoV and Engage have similarly flashy animations, but people actually react to getting hit in those games, and fall over when they die. Not that the GBA animations are bad, but rather middling for me, since they lack any kind of pacing or choreography. -"They have so much replay value" The argument that you can use other units in the next runs can be applied to any Fire Emblem, it's a rather pointless argument in that regard. You also bring up FE 7's modes, but in a bit of a disingenious way. 6 combinations of routes and difficulties sounds great, but then it turns out that one route is a short tutorial (that is also the exact same on bith difficulties by the way) and that the ither two routes could, for the most part, have just been one single route considering they are 90% the same and most of the missing content in Eliwood Mode could have easily been kept. Essentially, they didn't add new content for a New Game Plus, instead it comes off as though they removed content from the maingame to withhold to justify a New Game Plus. Now that's not to say that other FE games aren't guilty of reusing content on different routes or forcing you to play the game multiple times to see everything, but they usually have a good reason for it like the route splits in Fates and Three Houses, or characters in Radiant Dawn that canonically don't join you, but CAN join as a bit of fan service in New Game Plus. Ehat I am trying to say is that this doesn't make FE 7 look particularly flattering in the replay value department. -"The gameplay is snappy" This I generally agree with, and it is valid to bring up how the UI is more starightforward than in the previous games. By that same token though you can make the same argument right back, because FE's UI has continued to improve. You don't have to calculate weapok weight anymore in the newer games, or look up support bonusses online. The game does that stuff for you now. As much as these games have improved the UI, that doesn't mean that they aren't still dated. How much that matters at the end of the day is up to personal opinion. -"The music is great" This is probably my most controversial and subjective take. The GBA FE's have some of the weakest Soundtrack's I'd say. There are many compositions here that I like, but even my favorites aren't exactly something I come back to often. I am usually a GBA music apologist, for example Donkey Kong Country 3 GBA has an incredible Soundtrack. But FE specifically relies on full orchestras, which is a style of music the GBA really struggles with. FE music only got better once it wasn't shackled to system limitations. I simply can't agree that any GBA game has a better Soundtrack than any of the game since Radiant Dawn (I did not play the DS games, so I can't speak on those.) Overall, I find the GBA era to be decent, but a little lackluster. The games are genrally fun, but also kinda uninteresting. Binding Blade was, understandably, a very safe FE game that brought little innovation to the table. It was the first game without Kaga's involvement and the first handheld outing, so it's fine. But then they did it again. And again. Getting Three game back to back with little to no innovation is rather boring in my opinion. Sacred Stones at least feels like a half step, but that's about it. It's been a while since I paid attention to their stories though, so I am willing to give you that one. They're probably good.
Kudos to your long comment enjoyed reading your opinions. I think a lot of it does come down to personal opinion and what you like most in a fire emblem game. In general I can see why someone wouldn’t think the GBA games are the best (like I do) in given categories however I do still think it’s very consistent and aged well for a GBA series. Also funny enough your last point about story is something I’ve been thinking about more. Specifically with FE7 while I did still enjoy it the more I think and dissect it even past making this video the more of a 7/10 it feels like. Though I do think I need to play FE6 fully again to put it together more.
I’d be top notch to have a top tier ranking made by you mate you rock it, you’re a expert in the material. 🎉

Get a Everdrive GBA and save yourself a loads of money!
@ thank you for the advice, but I was able to find some gba games for super cheap at my local game store
@@300kyuubi You are welcome. 🙂
Glad i found you man, love me some gba aesthetics too!
I have to say, this channel is pretty refreshing. I can't tell exactly why, but if I have to simplify how I feel, it's the good kind of casual.
GBA has some of the best games, and spritework
This was a great video
Thank you
Subbed
Again thanks for watching and hope you enjoy this little appetizer video while I try and work on bigger videos!

If they can do it for Advance Wars....

Love some Thracia. Still need to play the post fire emblem Kaga games. I got part way through tear ring saga and then my save file corrupted…

The best of those 3 games of the GBA era is Seal of Swords and yet it's still mid-tier. Sorry man, but not a good point in your video.
Nah
