Thank you for the recommendations. I love great movies. I love the ones you feel compelled to watch over and over like it's a puzzle where you have identified most pieces, and then that moment when everything comes together. Then you watch the movie again, and you realize that there was a whole other layer of meaning expertly woven throughout, and there is the next moment that second layer comes together. That is how I feel about Korean Cinema. I admit. I came to Korean film because I love good horror movies and I'd been told that with Korea's history, mythology and beliefs, their horror movies were a world away from the American horror scene. A friend suggested OldBoy. That was my introduction to Korean Cinema. We talk about how crazy it is to just jump into the deep end of the pool and force yourself to swim, or die. Jumping in with OldBoy is just like that. It made me think of the first time I saw Pulp Fiction. Both movies shook me so hard, I had to take a few months and just stay away from the whole genre, till I felt ok to go on again, with horror and crime dramas. I went on to watch many more movies, and then Netflix had a series called Bad Guys, which I watched thinking I'd move on after a few minutes. The very first episode had me 100%. When I looked for info on it, I could only find articles about Season 2, Bad Guys: Vile City. I was so sad. I had come to REALLY love the characters in the first season, but this was centered around a different cast with a similar theme. Bad Guys starts with us looking at the city through the eyes of one of their best detectives, but when his daughter is murdered, he dies inside. The series talks a lot about how society used to be, that once thete was respect and safety but criminals have taken everything. The chief of police is effected by a terrible crime, so he finds the detective and asks him to come back, choose his own team, and best these criminals at their own game. If they won't respect rules and authority, then they would get on their level and beat them outside of the system they are trying to destroy, and show criminals what happens if police don't have to play by a different set of rules. It's kind of Dirty Harry/Josie Wales meets Seven Samarai. Each of the criminals is told that by helping get these gangs off the streets, they will have time taken from their sentences, and they can have a chance to earn back honor. We also see the criminals recruited to be on the task force had values, or were forced into bad choices, but at heart they are all good men who are haunted by what they have done, with a major mystery centered on a young genius who might be a serial killer, but can't remember anything. The group just calls him "psycho". I enjoy the Korean sense of humor, and notice there is often a character who seems to be a bit of a clown or buffoon. Anyway, I liked it. I am waiting until I can see Parasite on a big screen so I've avoided all news about it. I'm saving it up like a treasure. I only have a laptop, so I want to see it with friends on a HD TV.

Big thumbs up to the movie list! Gotta catch em all haha. Masquerade (2012) played by Lee Byung hun was great too :) What about a review on the movie Parasite, the first Palmed’Or winning Korean film?
Yeah, the Koreans have been knocking it out of the park for the past decade or two. I liked that four seasons one "Spring, Summer... and Spring" a lot, and then of course Parasite. They often go for melodrama but I'd say it suits them pretty well.
Coming from a guy whose into Acting/Voice Acting. I would say for me in my list of movies The Man From Nowhere is my First, Second, is Running Wild, and Third I would say. The Witch: Part 1 The Subversion. I feel like the Witch is a combination of The Matrix, X-MEN, and John Wick Combined into one. Especially, when you have music by Kenji Kawai in one of the films. He is one of my favorite film composers. I have two soundtracks from him which are rare!
Mostly all action movies are heart chasing it increases the speed of heart per minute so fast. you have to give yourself cpr...hit your heart to control the fast paced heartbeat. Excellently done which is presented the movies...all though I was finding a remake in korean movie of one english movie...and I enjoyed/understood korean movie better way.
Thank you for the recommendations I will check them out for sure. I have become a huge fan of Korean Cinema ever since Parasite blew my mind. I moved on to Burning, Barking Dogs Never Bite and Train to Busan. I've seen many others but these have been the stand outs so far.
What about "Castaway On The Moon" ? One of my all time favorites. Would love to know any recommendations for similar movies, that are more humorous. Looking forward to watching some of these action thrillers though. Thanks!
@@Koreaground Yes, I did! Not just once but on numerous occasions. I really am a big fan of Korean movie makers and writers --- they think out of the box while writing scripts for story-based movies although, most of them generally draw inspiration from true events, still the manner in which they depict these events well complemented by realistic screenplay (zero extra effects) makes watching them a very enjoyable experience. I can only recall the names of 5-6 of all the Hollywood movies that I've watched, but with the Korean ones I remember them all, even the plots and characters. I'd be glad if i can get movies recommendation from you --- list them down. Thank You!

I've been a big fan of Korean cinema since the early 00's, have seen 43 on the list of 50, for me S Koreans hve been making the best movies in the world for almost 20 years now. They could even take the zombie movie genre and created something fresh and original in Train to Busan. In fact, the only genre they can't seem to do right is comedy, for some reason actors overact in Asian comedies, they tend to act as if it were theatre, and the style of humor is usually situational, the kind of comedy children like, people tripping over stuff, cakes thrown in people's faces and such.
Oh wow...43/50... These are my thoughts about comedy movies. For Korean movies to do extremely well in the box office, it needs to be funny but also touching...I agree that there aren't that many comedy-only movies like the States...movies like Superbad, Pineapple Express, we don't have many of those. But movies like Veteran, Extreme Job, Sunny, Miracle in Cell No. 7., The Outlaws, All these movies did extremely well in the Box Office and all have a lot of comedy in them. Twenty is a great straight-up comedy movie, so I highly recommend that. Probably the closest Korea is going to get to proper comedy movie...
@@Koreaground Extreme Job was billed as comedy, Veteran and The Outlaws are thrillers with bits of comedic relief, as most movies, drama seems to work better with some contrast and you can't keep the audience tense for the entire movie. My problem with Korean comedies, most Asian comedies in fact, is something else, though, it's the theatricality of acting, there's too much pathos in them, like in comedies from the 1950s and I'm having trouble understanding why other genres can be acted with such perfect calibration, minimalism even, as tends to be the style these days, but not comedies.
very good point...makes me wonder, too. I have some thoughts on why (being a Korean and living in Korea right now) but it's just a personal thought. Our society and our lives are way too serious and competitive to have writers like Judd Apatow and Seth Rogen. And those movies won't be funded, either...Just a personal thought...
@@Koreaground Well, I've done some reading on this and the perception seems to be that while some white people appreciate subtler, "character" comedy, most people and especially minorities prefer simple, situational humor due to their limitations in abstract thinking. This is supposed to be further demonstrated by the lack of original words for abstract phenomena in non-white languages, it's either borrowed words or attempts to convert abstract into concrete. For instance in African languages (and in Arabic) there's no word for I promise, and when they do make a word, it's something like your feet being bound. It's a bit tone deaf, I know, but more importantly, it doesn't make sense in the case of South Koreans and the Chinese as they have some of the higher mean IQs in the world, if anything their humor (and language) should be among the most sophisticated of all. And I've actually heard that there is a style of Chinese stand up comedy that is almost entirely based on word play, on puns, Chinese being a tonal language seems to offer many opportunities, but that stuff is untranslatable and we probably couldn't recognize its quality even if we saw it.
Headshot, Merah Putih Memanggil, 22 Menit, Gundala, Message Man, Foxtrot Six are also a gem of a movie, I suggets give it a shot. Of course, Raid 1 and 2 need no introduction.
@@Koreaground yeah I've seen both of them, I wanted to watch no.3 and shiri, I can't find those anywhere, could you tell me where to find those? Please

Veteran and The Outlaws were the bomb. Yoo Ah and In and Ma Dong - 2 top kdramas actors. Veteran fight scenes were so tight. Very engaging movie.
Where can I see these movies!?
The Yellow sea is the best action I’ve ever seen.. HA JUNG WOO👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻 👍👍👍 Yoo ah in , Won Bin and Gang dong won movie is awesome too👍 Nice Ranking!!!!
Big thumbs up to the movie list! Gotta catch em all haha. Masquerade (2012) played by Lee Byung hun was great too :)
What about a review on the movie Parasite, the first Palmed’Or winning Korean film?
Totally forgot about Masquerade!
And yes, i plan to review Parasite in the near future 👍👍👍 Thank you ☺️
@Vibeeshan Pillai A/L S. Gopalan ff erotica ??? lol. That turned you on ?
@Vibeeshan Pillai A/L S. Gopalan ff i wouldn't comment if i had hadn't watched it idiot
Watch Veteran and Chicago Typewriter, Kill Me Heal Me, The King - Lee Min Ho and Itaewon Class
Please watch oldboy and I saw the devil
The Yellow Sea is the best movie I've ever seen.
great list bro! all are wonderful. very good taste
What about "Castaway On The Moon" ? One of my all time favorites. Would love to know any recommendations for similar movies, that are more humorous. Looking forward to watching some of these action thrillers though. Thanks!

The man from nowhere and the chaser are my fav on this list
The man from no where and the yellow sea are my favorite Korean movies.
Veteran n the outlaws was so good!!!! 👍
I caught the movie New World while it was free on RUclips. Extremely good film!
The Yellow Sea was an engrossing movie from beginning to the end --- one of my all time favourites.
Same here...very good script.
Have you seen Director Na Hong Jin's other movies? Like Chaser and the wailing.
Both are great movies, too~!
Thank You!

Good!🤩
korean movies are amazing.
7., The Outlaws,
All these movies did extremely well in the Box Office and all have a lot of comedy in them.
Just saw the secret reunion, Gawddamn brilliant film, in love with Song Kang-ho
