I saw Frank Marino in 1976 in Chicago at the Aragon Ballroom. I didn't even know who he was. We were all there to see Ritchie Blackmore's Rainbow. It was a big day. There was the LA Jets, Heart, Frank Marino and Mahogany Rush, and Rainbow. In that order. Frank blew everybody away and I went out and bought a couple of his albums. Of course Blackmore is my favorite, but Frank is actually a better blues player, and a master of the guitar. Not only that but he is a great singer too. With Frank you get two for one.

I heard that stuff as a German at my local Radio-Station World Anthem Vinyl. As a Rock & Blues LP Collector I bought it the next day! Rainbow was my 2nd Live Concert I ever saw in Essen/Germany 1977 (1st has been Uriah Heep & Woody Woodmansey´s U-Boat in1976). I saw Zappa 1983 in Essen, Monsters of Rock andsoon. Beneath Iron Maiden, Saxon, Deep Purple I´ve heard lots of Progressive Stuff (got 10 James Gang Albums), like Tucky Buzzard, Bachdenkel, Pavlovs Dog... Jazz-Rock, played by myself in several unknown german Rockbands in Hagen NRW, but Frank is one of my alltime favourites...

aint dead yet is amazing. in an old interview in guitar player mag they asked him about eddie van halen and his finger tapping and he responded how he was finger tapping when eddie was still in diapers. along with trower and other guys like chastain(different genre obviously) but amazing when they play. sadly i have only seen marino 5 times and trower 6, but the shows were incredible. the 1st time i saw frank marino mahagony rush they were warming up for nugent in new haven in 78 or 79. funny how most were there for nugent, granted i am a huge nugent fan myself, older music nugent i should say. on a good day maybe nugent could keep up. nah, he can hold his own.

I remember when I was about fifteen I think , and my best friend (and still close bud...) got to go to "Cal Jam''. I was grounded for ditching school. I can recall Dean banging on my front door the next day and when I opened it he was like looking at me as if I were a ghost. He kinda mumbled something like " I SAW GOD!" DEAN!!! I shouted! "You get some bad window pane at the show or what!? Then we went to the local record store and bought every album they had of this Italian guy with long hair, went home and changed the coarse of our lives. Witnessed the spectacle of this icon live at long beach 2 or 3 times along with other venues. And I still have never seen anybody ever leave an audience so awestruck! I remember When a song would end and theyd shine the house lights over the audience Id look behind me at thousands of faces, jaws wide opened they all looked like Dean at my door. It was a moving experience and spiritual at the same time. Wow! And even as I type this...World anthem in the background..I moved once again..Thank you Frank!

I was fortunate enough to have been exposed to Frank Moreno & mahogany rush at a very early age by a wonderful musician friend of mine John Gibbs . I'm ever so grateful to have been so blessed to have him still in my life and even after 30+years of listening to Frank he continues to ROCK MY WORLD. I was able to see frank Moreno n mahogany rush in the early 80's along with Uriah Heap at sunken gardens in San Antonio Texas it's by far is the best live show I've ever seen even though the San Antonio cops lined the stage & unfortunately ended the show early due to the overwhelming energy coming from the crowd. I must confess that EVERYONE was tripping on Acid Frank Moreno continued to play his rendition of Hendrix PURPLE HAZE through the riots that ensued. The crowd was having such a good time n those cops tried to ruin it. NO WAY COULD THEY . IT WAS THE BEST FREAKING SHOW EVER!!! THANK YOU FRANK FOR ROCKING MY WORLD FOR 33 OF MY 46 YEARS.

extremely doubtful, his biggest drawback and thing that did not help his career was his lack of actual songs and songwriting ability. The only success he’s had were with the covers in the 70s and with strange dreams in the early 80s, i give the guy credit for sticking to his guns and focusing on his vision and what he wanted but it did not help his career and neither did all the hendrix crap that plagued him

I first bought Maroon around 1974, and loved it. Football practice made me miss his first concert, but my buddies raved about it. I went to next concert and they were with Heart. Standing in line, my best friend said: That's Frank Marino". Sure enough, it was Frank in a station wagon. That got me worried, but since that show, Frank is my favorite. Fought through highschool, but years later, Zakk Wyled and Vinnie Moore made arguments hold up much better. Saw him six times, and six cancels. The worst when stayed overnight in Indiana when he played with Angel. As they were setting up, it was cancelled. A girl in back of me commented, I thought you were going to cry. Saw Frank after that, and he was magic. There was one night, much like this performance, he was just off the charts. Tell me Eddie V never saw him in concert.

I see RUclips guitarists from 10 years old on up that can play like all today's pros. They can emulate everybody's technique no matter how complex and even invent their own. Haven't seen one who plays like Frank Marino did 40-45 years ago. No doubt Jimi would have stood in awe if he was at Belmont that night.

He looks a bit like a cross between Zappa and Phil Negron from 3 Dog Night, chews gum like Lennon, sounds like Hendrix and has his hair blown back like Beyonce'. This is a real period video and it takes me back there. The sound is very good considering how old it is. Thanks for posting this. Marino is something of a lost guy from back then because of the Hendrix vibe. A very talented player. His brother isn;t so bad, either.

Frank Marino is a classic 70s player good enough for all time. I agree about his brother Vince. I actually think that Vince could finish a show for Frank, if it was necessary.

I love the mix and sound of this performance. I've heard other live versions but this one has the soul. Whoever was mixing did it right and it looks like the guys were really feeling it. Nuthing like a good mix when playing out. Buttrfly--Love this song!

This show begs for Frank's remastering touch......it's easily one of his best performances out there. Not sure what hoops he'd have to jump through to make it happen, but i know that i would be 1st in line to buy it. If the original telecast is still in good shape, it's a damn shame not to preserve and pass this along.....so many appreciate Frank's legacy and talent and this is testament to just how good he's been for so long. C'mon Frank.......please!!!!
