Honestly the tips Phil gives about "pedal free" playing has helped me more than most other youtube guitar players. Everyone searches for the ultimate tone, but it makes more sense to hold the tone in your hands than pedals/gear. You're the man Phil.
So true man. I freaked people out on a 52 Les Paul tribute in Sam Ash one time into what they thought was a crappy amp were all wondering what pedals I was running to get such a great tone. I told them my hands man.
The king is dead, THE KING IS DEAD! So long the king of electric guitar B.B King! He will be sorely missed by many, but his music will forever go on, inspiring many!
That new section sounds like King's X. Fantastic. Go on, dare you to play some King's X for us slightly weird progists out here. Got to love a bit of Ty Tabor. Salutations and many thanks.
The world is a better (and louder) place with Phil X in it. I hope FrettedAmericana is giving these videos the full archival treatment. People living 1000 years from now will need to see this.
Sometimes a 5 second part can have a bigger effect on me than a whole song or even a whole album. The progression of five big intervals on 4:41-4:44 are just magical. reminds me of the intro either embryo or orchid on the Black Sabbath - "Sweet Leaf" album, don't remember which. Then I got hit in the face (off course in a positive way) by this new drills song which also reminds me of something. I feel so annoying when I try connect things like this but I can't help it.
If Bon Jovi tours next year, I hope Phil X is there for the entire thing. He was awesome in 2013 when Richie bailed after the first 4-6 weeks of the tour!!!
I swear.....I am saving buy a guitar from you guys, and live, love, love the demos with Phil. I got scared he was leaving! Whew....close one. My heart sank, 1st BB dies, then Phil leaves.....one tragedy is enough. RIP BB.
dude i love this its all like whatever the best is when u dont know the words and u say whatever it cracks me up if u get a chance though kick some lemmy
I agree those old guitar models are really great and I really like how Phil X show us those beauties'…However, I really want Phil X show us some modern guitars(ibanze、ESP 、Gibson 2015 models…)in this channel…or maybe other channel?!
great sounding guitar...really digging the tone on this one...I was also scared Phil was leaving!!! NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO. :) Keep on rocking dude...these always make my day and I generally watch them many times!
Ok this was two years ago but the piece in "dynamics lesson" reminds of "I Want You (She's So Heavy) by The Beatles, the part where they sing the chorus with the riff under it.
I always wondered how these guitars felt - resonance wise. I love playing acoustic guitar so much more than electric due to the resonance. I would imagine these guitars to play somewhat like an acoustic due to the hollow body, but I'm not sure.
HARwinsOUTagain The very early electric guitars were standard acoustic guitars with pickups. Modern hollow bodies are thinner and so there is less resonance. More more resonance, use an acoustic electric with pedals.
Phil can you some day do a video without effects pedals?, some like a basic tube amp, one amp only just to see what tones you can get out of the guitar by it self, and thanks for all you videos,
Hey Phil love your channel ,the new song you said was on your new album, some of the guitar track esp . At 5:30 sound s just like the Beatles song She’s so heavy.lol better be careful Sir Paul might look you up sometime if loco Yoko thinks she can make a buck off someone.... i have the same guitar you are playing looks just like it. Mine is a ES175 D but a 1978 model same color.love it feels perfect in my hands keep up the good work.ps i think shes so heavy is on Abbey road.lol
Howdy, Fretted Americana dudes! Hey, could y'all do me a solid and have Phil do a 339 demo? Sweet thanks! By the way, dig the tune, Phil. It's gotta little Uncle Salty bite to it in there. Mucho Killer.
Your 335 reminded me of Alvin Lee and the 2 times I roadied for him !!! Won't you please do a video w/ plenty of Alvin Lee please ? Thanks for your generous consideration, Steph_Louisiana
Fantastic, Phil, I love your show. Last year you did a superb cover of Deep Purple's Highway Star. Have you ever done a cover of Burn? What guitar would you choose for that?
Would be fitting to demonstrate a Lucille as a tribute to B.B. in the next video if that is possible, beg borrow or steal one... Love these videos, Friday is always a mini xmas when I see the 1 next to frettedamericana in my subscriptions list. One other suggestion, could it be possible to have a sub channel created just showing the tracks at the end of the demo's?
I have faith in you Phil, I reckon you could pull something off, even just an intro piece at the start or something. Most guitar guys would 'get it'...
I was waiting for a lil Ted Nugent with that guitar. I know it's not a Byrdland but similar. Maybe some Snakeskin Cowboy? That's my go to GC lick for hollow body test drives.
well... we don't really need Christmas presents either. haha. I know what you mean, man & we all thank you. I can't even begin to tell you what an experience it has been to have all these amazing drummers play & record DRILLS tunes. the documentary is going to be KILLER!
i just love the whole thing you do with frettedamericana,,,,,and im guessing the intro piece of music im hearing is your band or just you? {the drills if im not mistaken...i must say its pretty damn tight,,nice drummer u got there to go with the riff,,,he or she is killing it,,,,unless its a machine or a software program im hearing? either way someone had to program it if so??? either way ,,i like it,,,i would buy that cd and crank it up during a decent drive on the highway,,, what is it? and how can i get it? anyone know?
Honestly the tips Phil gives about "pedal free" playing has helped me more than most other youtube guitar players. Everyone searches for the ultimate tone, but it makes more sense to hold the tone in your hands than pedals/gear. You're the man Phil.
thanks man. if I just helped YOU, my job is done.
So true man. I freaked people out on a 52 Les Paul tribute in Sam Ash one time into what they thought was a crappy amp were all wondering what pedals I was running to get such a great tone. I told them my hands man.
Nolan Milnes Sam Ash which one?
Greg Feo King of Prussia, PA.
The king is dead, THE KING IS DEAD! So long the king of electric guitar B.B King! He will be sorely missed by many, but his music will forever go on, inspiring many!
You are my Oxygen, you are able to bring back the old sound, and you are especially gifted, for playing and singing
Helter skelter......damn talk about inspiring !!! Phil the world desperately needs more people like you. Right now more than ever.
That new section sounds like King's X. Fantastic. Go on, dare you to play some King's X for us slightly weird progists out here. Got to love a bit of Ty Tabor. Salutations and many thanks.
Best Helter Skelter I've heard since the original. ooft! Face done gone melted. Thanks, Phil.
The world is a better (and louder) place with Phil X in it. I hope FrettedAmericana is giving these videos the full archival treatment. People living 1000 years from now will need to see this.
I was waiting for the "I GOT BLISTERS ON MY FINGERS!"
that's why it didn't happen. hahahaha
Man I love this drummer. Great tone, great licks and great attack.
I had to check i wasn't watching this at a faster speed. Nope Phil X is just that energized!
Those end jams you guys do are great! I would be great if you made a compliation video of all the jams together!
+Michael Osztertag Agreed!
Phil X is magic. For some reason whenever he says, "Have a kickass day!" I do! Thanks Phil X.
Sometimes a 5 second part can have a bigger effect on me than a whole song or even a whole album. PewDaiper The Great It reminds me of the midsection of "Orion" by Metallica but is still very original, great work.
RIP BB.
I got to this via a Reverb listing for the guitar, but holy crap. Some of the best gitfiddle playing on the tube.
Your riff sounds a little like She's So Heavy. There I said it.
Soundin' freaking fantastic as usual Mr. X.
Sick assed Beatles cover! Yall should put that in the live set,as it blows Aerosmith's & G&R's covers away...Sounds tight man!
That Helter Skelter cover was badass!
Hey Phil, love the videos and watching u play. Hopefully I'll see ya at the Randy Rhoads Remembered show in Jersey. Rock on!
Such a great musician! Love ya!
Phil gave that old Gibson a real workout he is the BOSS
Great review Phil. "Hard to forget" has a similar feel to "I want you - she's so heavy" / the Beatles. Sounds great. Can't wait for the new Drills CD.
Dammit fretted americana you made me freak out with that title
The guitar playing, that new Drills song, the jokes, Helter Skelter, all KILLER!
He is a really good teacher
He's been gone for almost three years. I miss him.
Excellent as usual sir ... Eagerly awaiting the new cd ... rock on.
dude i love this its all like whatever the best is when u dont know the words and u say whatever it cracks me up if u get a chance though kick some lemmy
Love me some Phil X. Have a nice day yea yah
I agree those old guitar models are really great and I really like how Phil X show us those beauties'…However, I really want Phil X show us some modern guitars(ibanze、ESP 、Gibson 2015 models…)in this channel…or maybe other channel?!
Best guitar demos!! Good info, jokes and awesome playing
Phil X - the kind of guy bebopin over a guitar review.
Na it's Great i love this
The tone of this beast was crying out Diary Of A Madman.
Keep kicking ass man!
Looking forward to this new record man, these samples are destructive!
Excellent work from all you guys
I love watching Phil X fail to keep Phil X contained.
Loved every second. Subscribed!
great sounding guitar...really digging the tone on this one...I was also scared Phil was leaving!!! NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO. :) Keep on rocking dude...these always make my day and I generally watch them many times!
Based on the first lick played in this video, when are we going to see Phil X perform at a jazz club? Good work man!
Someone said before Phil sounds like he has a heavy Stevie Wonder nfluence and I’m hearing it a lot now. Love the fretted Americana spots
"They aren't related, but they do be brothers" lol
Phil, you're one of the best guitarists alive.
a 175 has always been my "Dream" Guitar Hell,Ide even take an Epi!
Damn phil rips so bad! Gets me super psyched
Fantastic tone :3
The man is a absolutly magnificant goofy 😂👌💖
FOOOOOOO!!!
Nice cover!!
Haha! You f'n crack me up, dude. Well played.

That thing is mint!
GREAT DEMO
This riff at 5:00 sounds like Beatles I Want You
maciejej96 Sounds a tad bit like the middle section of Benefit of Mr. Kite by The Beatles as well
That's what I thought... I Want You (She's So Heavy). Man, what an awesome atmospheric track that is.
Yep
True
Aerosmithhy...
Dope!! Phil X DA MAN!
hey Phil X your fucking awsome!!! \m/ Rock & Roll
That new Drills track where you demonstrated picking sounds slightly similar to Shinedown's '45' tune. Just the picking part aha
Nice guitar, yes, but let's take a moment to acknowledge that freakin' beautiful early Hofner!
Phil can you some day do a video without effects pedals?, some like a basic tube amp, one amp only just to see what tones you can get out of the guitar by it self, and thanks for all you videos,
What does "The Final Chapter" mean? Last round of videos for the year or something?
Final chapter of PAF guitars. He says it at the start of the video
Brilliant cover of Helter Skelter... But it Always reminds me of Charles Manson.
Hey Phil love your channel ,the new song you said was on your new album, some of the guitar track esp . Cool man... :)
This is my favorite cover of Helter Skelter.
The begining to Hard to forget sounds kinda like a Megadeth riff, I can't place which one but I like it!
Phil just says "I'm too badass for headphones."
Goox for you Phil x.....
^_^ Oooh David Barrett's favourite guitar.
Gotta say, the new drills stuff I'm hearing sounds really freaking good. 's gonna be a goodin
Your 335 reminded me of Alvin Lee and the 2 times I roadied for him !!! Won't you please do a video w/ plenty of Alvin Lee please ?
Thanks for your generous consideration,
Steph_Louisiana
Exo stufffff!
Seems weird to see rock being bashed out on this guitar but hey shows how versatile this model really is
Izzy Stradlin used this guitar to help record one of the biggest hard rock albums of all time...
🙄 for fuck sake
@@rocknfrollYeah, Izzy also used white 175 for GNR’s live show at Ritz.
Fantastic, Phil, I love your show. Last year you did a superb cover of Deep Purple's Highway Star. Have you ever done a cover of Burn? What guitar would you choose for that?
Next time you get a Strat can you do Sultans Of Swing? That would be rad!
That tone at 8:27 tho 👌🏽👌🏽
the new song sounds insanely like shes so heavy
Uuuuunnnggggghhh it sounds soooo much like Yes!
That new riff reminds me of the beginning of "Gods of War" by Def Leppard.
Kickass version of Helter Skelter! You nailed it! Rock on!
X, THE NEXT ! !
It was a jared dines video i think.
Would be fitting to demonstrate a Lucille as a tribute to B.B. in the next video if that is possible, beg borrow or steal one... Love these videos, Friday is always a mini xmas when I see the 1 next to frettedamericana in my subscriptions list. One other suggestion, could it be possible to have a sub channel created just showing the tracks at the end of the demo's?
we did a Lucille once. I don't know if FA still has it or it sold. plus, i don't know if I'm a guy worthy to do a tribute like that.
That's my go to GC lick for hollow body test drives.
can anyone tell me what the opening song is??! those drums were crazy!
Tass Tourtsakis It's one of the Drills new songs. It isn't out yet unfortunately.
Tass Tourtsakis Something To Say - The Drills, with Matt Chamberlain on drums
nice thanks guys
Phil..You really don't need guest drummers.....:)
well... we don't really need Christmas presents either. haha. I know what you mean, man & we all thank you. I can't even begin to tell you what an experience it has been to have all these amazing drummers play & record DRILLS tunes. the documentary is going to be KILLER!

Exellent Rock'n'roll tone from such a, shall we say, not Rock'n'roll guitar (come on Jazz-snobs).
when will the new record be out?
Play China Grove live with the Drills please dude!
I want some of whatever you’re on because you can’t be sober, I’m just afraid I’d stare at my guitar and laugh
Phil...what amp are you using? It sounds awesome. I love the band's cover of Helter Skelter.
Phil never sounded sooooo gooood.....
Top good
Whats the steve howe song with the fast strumming at 4:43ish its sagooood

That new song on 8:45 is really great.

Izzy Stradlin from Guns n Roses!!!!! Izzy's go to guitar.... Where's the GnR songs?
No shame in being stumped by a Steve Howe tune ;)
