@@prometheuscastles well, it has some flaws on my Xbox one. Mainly framerate drop from time to time. But imo mostly the graphics. Yeah, the jumping, especially while running can be wildly inconsistent. It's one of my main gripes with the game. Then they went ahead while knowing about this and made this section... lol
I finally just beat this game tonight after not even getting out of rapture farm as a kid but still there was no way I could have finished without this walkthrough every now and then. So many well hidden entrances and very tricky puzzles at times
currently playing it now.. I kept on repeating on some of the level 'coz I keep on dying! I'm amazed that you didn't even die on some of those difficult levels!

I got this game when I was a kid but I've never completed it, really enjoyed it though. I think the furthest I ever got was over halfway when you're heading back to rupture farms
I love the music in this game, it fits the levels perfectly and is really atmospheric, the graphics for the time were amazing. My sister had this game and Abe's Exodus, I was never very good at it but I loved the look of the game
I wonder why Abes laugh changes halfway into this game. With Abes Exodus I think the same may have happened too but I remember if you are doing really badly and not saved enough mudokons the way he says "hi" sounds different and in a depressed tone.

Picked up the classic PS1 version on my PS3 (New N Tasty just doesn’t quite do it for me...) and oh my GOD the checkpoint system is killing me. Did the secret area under the barrel by the sleeping slig, did the one under the pull-ring trapdoor, then accidentally killed a mudokon in the secret area under the mines... died only to find at no point upon completing a secret area are there any checkpoints...!
One of the things I feel they messed up most on was the movement. The originals basically had you moving on an invisible grid so that movement was precise and the areas were designed accordingly. It really felt like a puzzle game where you needed to stop on a specific tile or jump or roll.. was so satisfying to pull off the right sequence for the room/puzzle. The analog movement in the remake really takes away that feel for me.. that and the camera movement. In the original every single screen felt like a work of art that I just wanted to stare at. I wish they would have gone like the Starcraft remastered route and just prettified everything while keeping the original feel in tact.
You have to press the directional button that's the opposite of where you're facing. In his case, he was facing left, so he pressed the right directional button
when i was a kid my siblings used to make fun of me for being "bad at games". But I'm the only one that could play Oddworld bc they were too scared. and the only one who ever beat it (not until i was an adult lol). Who's the real gamer now 😅
Beat Abe 1 again, now going for 100%. I got only 75/99 dudes even while hawking every pixel and using some guides here and there... crazy. And it was crazy tough, too, whew. But I got the good ending so I'll be content with this I think, gonna look up the rest. lol I got all of em in Rupture Farms (initial and return I think). I got all in the later sections, and I'm pretty sure I got all on the night stages. Some must be hiding in the temples. Well, 14 to be exact. I did find some secrets there but apparently not enough of them.
@@netomx1983 Replayed the demo with the first level just now, and had to search for 2 Mudokons because the stat boards still marked them after saving most. I forgot that there are also some Mudokons hidden in shadows (at 2 different un-hidden screens). Very easy to miss them because there are Sligs and other visible Mudokons nearby them. Just saying.
Though long ago I did manage to max it out and save everyone in the full game. It was a massive effort, trying crouch and climb at every possible corner or plaforms overlapped by the foreground, calling hello everywhere one more time. Just in case there is something hidden. There a dozens of hidden places. The reward was not a big deal, at the ending just some extra concept art shown before the credits rolled, but it was satisfying!
Oh and there is the aggrieving case when dying after saving some Mudokons, and then forgetting that you have to re-do it after respawning at a checkpoint.
After watching, things I missed or learned: Missed: - A secret in the Paramonian trial with the Eastern boulder (3 muds) - A secret in Scrabania next to a flint, on the left. I think this one's unfair, there's no sign of it being there, just a fake wall that you need to roll through when there's no hint of there being a rolly place at all (that throw you did at the mine felt borderline like an exploit, 1 mud) - Through the fence I mentioned above, in various areas, some of which used to be secret (7 muds in packaging, 13 in the "first" area) I don't get this... That's only 24 total. I was missing 25. These are the only ones I missed from what I can tell after watching the video. Where could the very last one be? D: Learned: - The "Look out!" slig quip can be used to make sligs move, remembered that it also makes mudokons duck - Some puzzles can be done in fewer moves or in different order - The best way to clear the spiky rock swings is to roll into each gap. I kept trying to undershoot jumps and that was possible but a lot more exhausting and less consistent overall - You can hop over the red-green mines just like the normal ones, given enough space and if there's only as many as 2 in a row - You can disable the electric fence next to the shaman who gives you the rings in Rupture Farms. I thought that area was off limits. I never saw it open, nor could I find a way to open it. Now I know that the lever that opens the way to the Zulags also disables the fence. I can finally finish the game 100% and put it behind me. lol Thanks a lot!
their newest games are not bad, but this is a masterpiece, pure gold
Quite enjoying the tone of soulstorm seems somewhat darker in terms of story. But gameplay is better in the original
Definitely one of, if not the most, atmospheric game for the PS1
