Fun Fact: The whole album was entirely recorded and produced by Tobias Forge. In fact, it's just him who plays the guitars, the bass, and sings. He invited a session drummer for the recording.

In have been exposed to Ghost at the worst time possible in my life where I was a very iron headed and narrow minded metalhead who hated everything that wasn't "true metal", and unfortunately that perception persisted for a long time.
Ironically enough, I came back to Ghost to hate listen to it after remembering it was "bad" and I found out I actually dug that shit up
Enjoy them just now, no hard feelings.
I wish Ghost would give us all a shocker & actually go back to its dark roots like in Opus Eponymous.
Maybe the Papa after Papa Emeritus IV will do that...
Imagine an album that's a mix of Opus, Impera, and Meliora...

A mate of mine said this sounds like ABBA metal, as if I was supposed to be insulted by that. This album is full of great poppy hooks & harmonies and I love it
I remember Nightwish getting ABBA references back when Anette Olzon was their singer.
Ghost covers ABBA... "I'm a marionette", so I'm guessing there is some influence.
My girlfriend loves this band so I'm trying to give them a proper listen - chronologically. Their cover of Marianette was the first time I'd heard that track and I love it, both versions! So haunting. All this to say abas great shtuffs.
to be compared to abba is a huge compliment. They impacted pop culture forever in such a short time.
Really? Marionette maybe 🤔 but then I listen to dancing queen and then I’m thinking probably because they covered their song that’s the only reason the connection was made I’d put it out there they are a beach boys, dick dale and queensryche mixture and that is just as stupid and correct…
Truth is Tobias Forge was 😮surprised by that comment so maybe just enjoy the band and stop trying to take it apart to see how it works

I feel old af because I was a teen when this album came out. It still tugs at my heart every damn time. Very few albums bring out so much for me anymore, but this is one of them.

This is a Christmas album to me! First time I heard it I was on my way home for the Holidays, sitting in an empty train while it was snowing heavily outside...I almost missed my stop :D
This and Hellbily Deluxe I and some good Mercyful Fate and King Diamond make for some GOOD Halloween stuff
100% “Elizabeth” bounces back and forth from Mercyful Fate to BÖC.

I'm with you. I just discovered them through the Sea of Tranquility RUclips channel. I can't believe I had never heard them before. I mean, I knew about them; I'd seen pictures. I thought it was going to be some cookie monster shit, but it totally surprised me with the big classic riffs, melodies, and fantastic vocals and harmonies. I'm going to be 60 in a couple of weeks, and this reminds me of the hard heavy rock I liked back in the 70s without sounding retro at all. More like a traditionalist band embracing hard rock history. Awesome. I hear a lot of Blue Oyster Cult, especially in Impera.
Just got here myself. Discovered these guys through Sea of Tranquility. Great harmonies and melodies and big riffs on Impera, the first one I heard. I'm almost 60 and this is just what the doctor ordered. Now I'm exploring the back catalog.

The Blue Oyster Cult reference is dead on. I think there’s s lot of Cultosaurus Erectus in their sound

Such a great and mysterious album with such nice guitar riffs and memorable lyrics. Genesis is so underrated and so is stand by him.
Genesis is one of my favorite songs ever.

Still my favorite album from them, the heaviest and darkest one. Less radio friendly than the ones afterwards.

i went to a ghost concert a few days ago and miss them a lot, such a great band with such great albums.
I push-mow the grass to this, and let me tell you, it is absolutely fantastically fun and so satisfying! l listen to all Ghost music whilst doing any yard work or gardening (which is my main occupation) and its just an excellent companion 😂🎉. Thank you, Tobias! You are so loved! ❤
This album is untouchable. As much as I love Ghost, they'll never produce anything this great again

Excited by the release of Hunter moon I decided to revisit the old Ghost stuff and have to admit this sounds as good now as the first time I heard it! Ghost have never dropped a poor track in my opinion.

It's really interesting to read the comments for this album. I've like a few Ghost songs over the years, but I'm just starting my first deep dive. Im trying to understand the significance of the different lead singer (characters) and how that correlates with the evolution of their sound from album to album. One thing is obvious from the comments...alot of fans arent happy with the evolution of their sound.

I thought it would be super heavy but it's pretty melodic. Song at 6:00pm reminds me a lot of Blue Oyster Cult! They are still beloved in Europe.

I’ve listened to this album multiple times and can tell it’s been altered to keep it from getting taken down but it’s been done in such a way that in certain areas of the album you could hear the other instruments I will always love this band and experiencing the album with a new sound is pretty cool
Still sounds as magical as the first time I listened to it
So, I became a fan of Ghost in 2018, shortly after Prequelle was released. Found them after Faith popped up in my pandora station in 10th grade before I moved away, the album cover looked too, "death metal" or something, and at the time I was heavily into alternative and high rock, so I almost skipped it. THANKFULLY i didn't. The impact for me was, immediate. Something about the melodies and the guitar riffs, the lyrics felt too evil but mysterious. Then the final organ section at the end, that sold it for me. I was hooked and then I heard Dance Macabre. I was somewhat surprised that it wasn't really metal, but a great song to get your foot tapping along and before long you're singing along to the chorus. I ended up getting Prequelle for Christmas and its still phenomenal to this day. Moving away in the middle of 10th grade was very difficult for me, but Ghost helped me get through. Learning that nobody really knows who the nameless ghouls are, that made my interest even stronger because i thought it was neat. Ghost were just different. Then after awhile I ended up stumbling upon Cirice. It was creepy as fuck, and the riff at the beginning once again, it sold me. Fucking awesome music. Fast forward to now, in 2022, after listening to Impera almost 35 times in only one month of release, I decided that I would try their first album last week. I was somewhat iffy about it because I remember when I was obsessed with Prequelle, I tried listening to Opus Eponymous and I didn't care for it. After listening more and more to Ghost and Tobias Forge, and after listening to this more than a few times, I can officially say this album is a fucking gem and its fantastic.

All praise to the true producer and creator. Opus and 2nd are 2 of the greatest production and recorded masterpieces. The sound is brilliant.

Ghost albums vary a lot. This one in particular is heavily influenced in Merciful Fate or King Diamond if you will.

I agree. Although the falsettos are not present the Melodie’s have that feel which I really like. This is my favorite Ghost album although the others are no slouches by any means.
Gotta be my fave album. In the last two albums Tobias has clearly found the sound he was looking for. You can tell he was still trying to perfect it here.

This album was entirely recorded in Linkoping, his hometown 🥲 I just found out that it is *his* hometown, and it's crazy..., I've *actually* been there! Who would have thought 🥲
Anyway, I saw Ghost live, recently, and I love them (him) so so so so so so much more ever since, it was a truly magical night that I will forever try to hold in my memory, like a treasure ✨ 🩷❤🧡💛💚🩵💙💜 ✨
This band has some really good songs in every album they released till today, i've heard already 3 songs from the upcoming album that will be released in 11.3.2022 and so far so good...i can't wait to hear the rest of the songs from the new album, thanks for sharing.
