    A little off-subject, but at an estate sale, I picked up 3 Penn Fathom lever drag reels for $370. Two model FTH25NLDLH's and one model FTH30LDLH. They are the single-speed models, look almost new, and function perfectly. My preference would be to use these for slow-trolling live bait or trolling ballyhoo, skirted baits, etc, out of Stuart Florida area. For this, which Penn (or Chaos!) rods would I consider pairing these with? Short or longer rod length? There are so many choices, it's hard to make a decision on what's best, and I am trying to keep rod price (per rod) less than $200-$250 at the most. For instance, would the Penn Carnage II boat casting rods do the trick? Any alternatives or suggestions would definitely be appreciated!

      I was looking for a cost-effective, yet well-made rod for light Mahi/tuna trolling and kite fishing to pair with some avets and the Penn Rampage has done nothing but good things for me. I like it as much as my Connley. I paid 60 apiece for the rampages and 260 for the Connley. You could pair the 25s with the 6 ft 6 in the medium-heavy conventional model. They aren't on the same level as chaos rods but are definitely worth a look.

      The penn carnage (which I also own) is a bit nicer of a rod but also more expensive but whatever you choose I'm sure you'll be satisfied

    I’ll first start with I love the show. I inshore fish and when weather allows all the way out to the canyons, out of NJ. I learn a lot from your shows, thank you. However I can’t understand why you guys always use those long 7foot rods. Seems like you are fighting the tackle. Is there any benefits for those longer rods?

    Why don't people target yellowfin off South Florida? I'm a new jersey tuna fisherman and you guys got deep water close so I don't get why no one targets them or even bluefin. They swim past 2xs a year so how come they are rarely caught

    • @FloridaSportFishing
      @FloridaSportFishing  2 года назад

      There are not enough of them across South Florida to specifically target, up off central Florida along the east coast guys run to the other side of the Gulf Stream, where the yellowfins are coming across from The Bahamas. Up in the northern Gulf is good too, specially with big fish up around the rigs but just no real numbers down here.
