Thanks for making this Jay always appreciate your work. Weird thing happened to me and I got lucky and fixed it.On the last step (I used a 8.1 character) I clicked the 8.1 "lilac color" and all but the head lined up. I was getting lines on the neck, I just clicked the blue for genesis 8 and it fixed it.
Thanks for the tutorial, Jay. I'd been at this for a few hours today when I came across this video. Finally got it to work, once I followed your process for it.
I'm a bit late to the party... but it took me ages to start with G9 at all. And I have to say that I quite like it... except for a few quirks. Now I'm considering buying this product, so that I can re-use my G8s. But I was wondering how this conversion works at the final stage. If I understood that correctly, it modifies the G9 model in a way so that the old G8 skins can be used... but it does NOT create a new G9 skin from that. So... if I want to use the skin on a different model, I can't just use a "transfered" G9 skin... I have to go through the complete process again. And if I want to export the model to other applications... I'm stuck with the geoshells and stuff. Is that correct?
Thanks Jay...useful and very clear as ever. It might be worth mentioning that the product doesn't work if there are other geoshells on the G9 character. Best to remove any other geoshells.
What I notice about textures and shades for gen 9 that it has changed the translucency settings in surfaces for the bodies, so what I do is make sure I have hidden preferences for surfaces, this allows you to adjust the translucency setting for the model. It set high which tends to show skins dark or red in tone, slide it down some to get more lighter shades working on the skin.
I would love to see legacy UVs on G8F so we can use G9F textures on that figure. Makes alot of sense because G8 is still alot more popular among people.
Would likely cause Daz to lose money, though. So, if it were to become a thing it'll either be at the EoL for Genesis 9, or someone manages to reverse engineer the process for G8/8.1.
@@icanmakeeverythingilovedie9861 Don't think so. I think the G9 is one big disapointment. And big spenders who have colllected all of G1238 will not go to a generation that does not fit all those clothes and props. Cayman realeased now a backwards one G9 TO G88.1!
Hey Jay, I was looking on the Daz site, is there a similar product like this that you can put gen 3 on gen 8 models? I was looking but doesn't seem like there is or maybe I'm looking in the wrong spot?
Hi Matthew! The Genesis 8 figures can actually accept Genesis 3 materials without any additional products. You've just saved yourself some cash 😊 If it doesn't work, the source figure probably has a custom UV set, but you can use Map Transfer to bake it across to the base UV if necessary. This video shows the process, should you need it: ruclips.net/video/YxE5Lfkid1M/видео.html
Don't know if this is the right place to ask, but i haven't found anywhere else. i do everything explained in this video, I'm trying to apply the torment 8.1 materials to a g9 figure, but when i click on "apply genesis 8.1 male uvs" the only things that look right are the mouth and eyes, the rest of the skin continues looking fucked up. Am I doing something wrong, is there a specific material i need to be selecting when applying certain things?
In case you're wondering if this is the highly anticipated Face Transfer equivalent for G9, no it's not. I found the results underwhelming enough to stick with G8 for the time being.
so if my gen 8,1 had a facec transfer texture, and i save the mat preset, will the product not transferring it all correctly to a gen 9 without any objects
dear jay, so as mentioned i am not a big fan on g9 atm and still working with g8/8.1, can you explain on how to map transfer g9 to g8 or 8.1? would be really great since it could somehow done with those geografts normally :)
Jay did a Daz+ stream on this topic last month, where he transfers textures from an older character to Genesis 9. The same principles can be applied the other way by swapping the figures. He uses a combination of R3DS Wrap, Texture Atlas and Map Transfer for the process. There's a pinned link in the Daz+ forum to a list of all past live streams, please check it out.

Thank you so much for this. I lost tons of little grey cells on this.
Hello friend, how are you? Does it help when you put the Genesis 9 character, do the eyes stay white? can you help me

bro what if my gen 8.1 had a face transfer material, and I'm trying to use this texture to gen 9, will the product work>?
can it be reversed? apply g9 texture to g8??

Does the G3 and G8 make NFP avatars collection outdated and useless ?

There's a support thread on our forums, where the developer can answer your questions: www.daz3d.com/legacy-uvs-for-genesis-9-genesis-3-8-and-81-male

Is there any word on a product for the male figures for G9? I'm not as enthusiastic about the female characters.
Not yet, all we know is that Cayman Studios are working on it. We'll mention it in the newsletter when the male version is released.
@@Daz_3D Thank you so much for the information. I didn't expect a reply. You are very kind. i look forward to the product.
These instructions do not work, at least for the male version. The UVs do not get applied.
This product has the worst tutorial.

Way to much work to get a dark skin!
How do i make SSS textures ?
sss textures? What does this even mean? You mean make a custom SSS shader?
