Question: I imagine you do this all by ear initially. But how many full takes do you go o through till your happy with something to upload. And then throughout the takes are the solo sections the same or do you change it up each time? (Curious as a music student)
very good questions. it is all by ear. I work out the arrangement (generally takes between 2-5 days), then I play the arrangement a bunch of times before even thinking about filming. Then when I film, I limit myself to 5 or 6 takes max -- if I don't get a take that I'm happy with in the first 5 takes or so, I wait and film another day. Regarding the solo sections, most of them are improvised, but sometimes I will plan ahead or have some target areas to hit in the solos. ;D
