I made one for my toddler (3yo, 23" chest, made size Small) and it turned out very well! It's a good beginner project for someone who needs something beginner-friendly but has made enough drawstring bags to fill the straight seams practice quota. This thing is a masterclass in curved seams. Lol I found the crisscrossed shoulder straps hard to visualize (even with the video) but simple to execute once I was actually making it. I'd move the pocket up by an inch or so, as I found it to sit a little low. Such a quick, fun project! :)

Thank you for the free pattern in so many sizes! I found the printout easy to assemble, and looked online for the size equivalent in age/numerals. I feel ready now to make some cute smocks!

This project turned out very well! I made smocks for all four granddaughters. If I might be very personal, please take care of your voice. I am from a family of singers and your voice makes me worry about nodes on your vocal cords.

I would love to see this modeled on a child. My grandson is quite a messy little artist, so I have to go with something that can be washed down easily. Is there some way to make this water repellent?

You could use oilcloth for it to be water repellent.
