What garbage! My nephew, who actually lives in California!, is flying one of those fire-fighting planes. Trump's dangerous lies disturb me, but the fact that so many people hear those dumb lies and think, "Sure, that makes sense," disturbs me even more.

I hear/read what Trump and his mouth pieces spew and the misinformation and lies are generally apparent. Unfortunately many people don't pay enough attention to factualized news and information to catch all the dangerous crap. I find that so frustrating! I'm not all that smart. I'm not so special. Anyone can pay attention to the world we live in, yet so many don't. I also know what I can do to mitigate the firestorm that the next few years will be and I'll keep it up. When I read that bit about "an essentially worthless fish" I was reminded of the lines in "A Christmas Carol" when the Ghost of Christmas Present throws Scrooge's words back in his face. Earlier, Scrooge had told some men who were collecting for charity that if the poor did not want to "take advantage" of the provisions that Victorian England had for them (the workhouse, the Poor Law, the Treadmill) then they had better die and "decrease the surplus population". Later, Scrooge asks the Ghost of Christmas Present if Tiny Tim will live and the Ghost throws his words back into his face:
“If these shadows remain unaltered by the Future, none other of my race,” returned the Ghost, “will find him here. What then? If he be like to die, he had better do it, and decrease the surplus population.”
Scrooge hung his head to hear his own words quoted by the Spirit and was overcome with penitence and grief.
“Man,” said the Ghost, “if man you be in heart, not adamant, forbear that wicked cant until you have discovered What the surplus is, and Where it is. Will you decide what men shall live, what men shall die? It may be, that in the sight of Heaven, you are more worthless and less fit to live than millions like this poor man’s child. Oh God! to hear the Insect on the leaf pronouncing on the too much life among his hungry brothers in the dust!”
Ignorant people like Trump are like the "insect on the leaf". He has no clue of the interconnectedness of all things on this planet, nor does he care.

      @ Indeed!
“But you were always a good man of business, Jacob,' faltered Scrooge, who now began to apply this to himself.
Business!' cried the Ghost, wringing its hands again. "Mankind was my business; charity, mercy, forbearance, and benevolence, were, all, my business. The deals of my trade were but a drop of water in the comprehensive ocean of my business!”
Also, scene where Scrooge notices two children clinging to the Ghost of Christmas Present and asks if they are his:
"They are Man’s….And they cling to me, appealing from their fathers. The boy is Ignorance. The girl is Want. Beware of them both, and all of their degree, but most of all beware this boy, for on his brow I see that written which is Doom, unless the writing be erased."
Note how Dickens felt that Ignorance was a greater threat than Want. Very perceptive, given the current situation.

I often have wondered what a modern day Christmas Carol, with Trump in the Scrooge role, would look like. Like Scrooge, he was shaped and scarred by a childhood where love was withheld. Like Scrooge, he values wealth and yet seems to have little real enjoyment of the benefits of wealth. I'd love to have 3 Ghosts visit him, and have wondered what he'd be shown that would lead to his redemption. I think that Pres. Carter's service might be a part of that. Trump must have wondered what his memorial as a former president would be like. Who would mourn him, who would attend the service? That final vision was the last push that Scrooge needed to understand that a life lived solely for profit has no real value.

Ed, Thank you for your warm and sincere videos which have come to mean a great deal to me in the last few months. I truly appreciate your wisdom and guidance in helping to better understand my role as a Christian as relates to the mess we Americans find ourselves in with the "Second Coming" of the great orange narcissist. Never in my live have I ever been so utterly devastated as I was on the day after the election, when I found that not only had Donald Trump been re-elected, but that the republicans also took the House and the Senate. I really feel this is among the worst things that has ever happened to our country. Certainly the Great Depression, the World Wars, September 11th and other tragedies have been terrible events, but those events brought our nation and gave us a common purpose. We haven't that luxury this time. Not only did we elect this wholly unqualified and undeserving person once, but we elected him again - Despite knowing ever more about his level of corruption, narcissism, philandering, lying and general horrible character.
I have long been a fan of the works and ministry of Dietrich Bonhoeffer, and I am driven by his famous quote "Silence in the face of evil is, itself, evil. God will not hold us guiltless. Not to speak is to speak. Not to act is to act." Thus, I am NOT silent and i DO speak out against the wrongs I see against God's children everywhere. It hasn't made me popular, and I've paid a price in many ways, but I simply cannot let this stuff go without shining a light on the evil as well as toe perpetrators of the evil. But I feel like I'm lost. I am crying in the dark, and I know others cry with me. Yet when our cries are heard we are dismissed as "leftist commies" or "Woke", etc.
So what do I do? Should I keep crying out, hoping the voice of reason will eventually take the stage, or do I save my voice hoping the audience will change? Or do I wait for the disaster to come true and take the "I-told-you-so" approach. I see a train wreck coming and I just don't know how to survive it.
Ed, I'm sure you've heard from countless others who feel likewise, and I'm sure our feelings must be a burden for you, as well. But please know how vital your messages are. You provide an "Even keel" for me in times when I feel myself giving in to my anger and desire to inflict retribution and revenge. Please keep it up.
Blessings to you and your ministry, which has touches me in ways I cannot even enumerate.

She was never allowed to talk to me about how her faith differed from the faith my parents raised me in. There was a family argument before I was born, which I didn't know about until recently. She'd ultimately agreed not to interfere in my parents' faith decisions for her grandkids.
But, she did talk about Jesus...a lot. Her version of Jesus was different than everyone else in my family's version, Grandma's Jesus made sense to me, & I'd honestly started to believe that she'd just invented Him herself. I thought that she'd naturally blended things from her First People's heritage into her Christianity & that Grandma's Christianity didn't actually exist anywhere beyond Grandma. Thank goodness it does, bc it's beautiful. She'd be worried about the smelt fish, too, & would be telling me to honor & protect all of God's creations.

Whether one is a believer or not (and I'm not necessarily in that category), if you honor the words of the Bible, it is exactly so: we are _stewards_ of the earth. Stewards don't have license to exploit what they have stewardship over; they are entrusted to care for it. And on top of that, regardless of how we feel about any individual piece of it, we all depend on the interwoven web of life on this planet. We owe it to ourselves as well to care for it responsibly. ❤

I have watched that documentary a couple of times regarding the Wolves being returned to Yellowstone and the many benefits to balancing out nature. It was astounding the benefits that occurred. Also since the deer were overpopulated and eating up all the greenery, the Wolves cut down the deer population so that much landscape had a chance to grow back. There were so many more benefits.

    • @were-owlinwisconsin4441
      @were-owlinwisconsin4441 4 дня назад +1

Aldo Leopold wrote in "Sand County Almanac" about seeing mountains in New Mexico that had been made barren after the local wolf populations had been wiped out. As the wolves disappeared, the deer population exploded, and overbrowsed so much that they killed all the trees on the mountainside.
"I have watched the face of many a newly wolfless mountain... I have seen every edible bush and seedling browsed, first to anemic desuetude, and then to death. I have seen every edible tree defoliated to the height of a saddlehorn. Such a mountain looks as if someone had given God a new pruning shears, and forbidden Him all other exercise... I now suspect that just as a herd of deer lives in mortal fear of its wolves, so does a mountain live in mortal fear of its deer. And perhaps with better cause, for while a buck pulled down by wolves can be replaced in two or three years, a range pulled down by too many deer may fail of replacement in as many decades."

What I think people dont understand about protecting plants and animals is that our lives end up being better and safer when we care for our cousins in Creation. If we had properly managed our fire dependent ecosystems through prescribed burns and not planted tons of flammable invasive plants in the Western United States, megafires would be much less of a threat to human lives even with climate change. Not to mention that living alongside Creation instead of excluding it from human civilization is one of the best arguments for a Creator. How can you expect people to see God easily when they are surrounded by manmade things, are told that nature is scary, and have never seen the stars?

The hydrants running out of water is that they are on a separate water system and the tanks that provide them were full. Problem is the water system is sized to allow for a smaller number of fires happening at the same time. Not entire communities that were engulfed. This has nothing to do with the water that is available to California or this made-up restoration declaration. Maybe California needs to change the water system for hydrants to be in line with this new climate changed world we live in now. Same would apply to any communities in the western states where wildfires are now becoming common place. Our new leader believes climate change is a hoax and therefore cannot think along these lines to find solutions. He can only point fingers to others he believes are at fault instead of working together to find mitigation solutions.

I'm probably not the best person to answer this, but if one believes in and trusts God, there's a very valuable thing He is said to have given us from the outset: free will. I don't think he's much inclined to muck around with that, for better or for worse, and personally, I think that's a good thing. It doesn't mean he's turned his back; it means he's giving us the opportunity to do the right thing, on our own, without being forced to do so. If we made a mess of something (as we collectively did), we need to figure out a way to make it right. Nothing wrong with asking him for strength and guidance in the process.

For an essentially worthless fish, they sure do sell for a fine enough profit for my far inland supermarket to sell. I've personally dined on the fish, although it's tasty, I do have bigger fish to fry, so to speak. I just am not too fond of eating fish "bones" and all. Probably because I didn't grow up dining on such things, but I've eaten them anyway as a change of pace.
Which reminded me to add fish to my shopping list for Friday, when it's supposed to warm up to low refrigerator temperatures, as it is a mile and a half to my local market and I'm on foot (the larger supermarket being two miles away). The larger full size supermarket being a touch over five miles away and beyond my current capabilities. And brussels sprouts, was irritated when preparing dinner tonight by being out of them and I always keep some in the freezer, dummy me ran out and had to substitute asparagus. Oh well, nutritionally fairly close for micronutrients and many vitamins. I like variety in my diet, so leftovers won't be consumed the following day, save if they're lunch, they'll wait for a couple of days, then join another dinner. That practice actually delayed malnutrition and imbalances in electrolytes on my first major Crohn's flare, so all I was deficient in was magnesium and sodium chloride. By rights, B-12 and folate should've also been deficient, score one more for variety and moderation.
That all said, anything that's worthless within an ecosystem dies off, otherwise it's a necessary part of that ecosystem. But then, to Trump, the only ecosystem he recognizes is his bank account and his golf courses.
As for aircraft, California actually had purchased additional firefighting aircraft last year. But, Trump is more than welcome to board an aircraft and try to take off in 100 MPH gusting winds, he'll really make his mark in the world then! Either a crater or furrow.
California supplies water that he was griping about via huge water tanks, which get pumped full prior to demand and refilled more slowly than the fire peak demand, as pumps aren't magic and have limits. Millions of gallons drained the tanks, refilling them takes time and then the electricity went off due to the electricity provider not wanting incinerated lines dropping to the ground and worsening fires - especially after having to pay out massive damages from when their lines drooped, arced and started a previous year's fires.
Still, if Trump feels so strongly about those fires, have him waddle out to the fire line and pick up an axe, rake and shovel and I'll even waddle out there alongside him, despite my arthritis. Although, if he stops, I do reserve the right to swat him in the behind with my rake or shovel.
Moderation and all, so I'll bury the hatchet the way I usually do, dropping it and being unable to find it until I sit dOWn.
