    Allen , I luv all your videos . You're an excellent instructor . It's pure genius to recycle and build a diy gold trommel wash plant . I want to build one in Canada . In Canada U.S. prospecting equipment is very expensive . In B.C. and Alberta we're not allowed to put dirty water in the rivers . So your invention is ideal .

  • @markmanwaring3823
    @markmanwaring3823 5 лет назад +2

    the linear flow initiated by the channel sections is a big improvement coupled with the double V rubber section ,but what happens if a piece of gold too big to go in washes through ,will it roll over the top I wonder ,as well as any gem stones that may be associated with the gold ,ie garnets ,sapphire ,topaz . I would still check the wash before tossing I think . Great upgrade though .

    • @allansgoldmining
      @allansgoldmining  5 лет назад +1

      Very good question Mark. The Double-V riffles alternate in stacks of 3/4" and 1/4". Therefore, any large nuggets are easily trapped. My trommel screen is only 1/4," so the largest nugget can only be about 3/8" on the diagonal. Which I've collected a few ! Another cool thing about this Double-V mat (which I forgot to explain in the video) is great for trapping flat nuggets. Flat nuggets act like surfboards and float over standard riffles. The vortex on the Double-V causes them to flip and get snagged in the V's. That flat nugget in my pan makes a good case. Always scan my tails with a metal detector in case a nug is too large for the trommel screen. Thanks !

    I'd like to make a suggestion. You can buy a roll of Airconditioning filter and cut them the same size as your screen filters, then use a silicone bead around the very edges of each and stack them together and silicone them to the screen filters making them scrubbing filter blocks. Which I think would make your return water much cleaner. Especially if you make four or more blocks allowing you to change filter blocks a couple of times during processing. Just an idea.

    • @allansgoldmining

    excellent Allan!!! Question: With these mods and the refinement of your wash plant, you have increased the amount that you transport to your site, your set up and disassembly, packing, unpacking..... it may be too early to tell but, has it been worth it? I have been watching a lot of prospecting vids from you, jeff williams, two toes, ( i think that is his name). Others as well. But, I am trying to concentrate on portability first and gold a close second. If things become too much of a hassle then I, and maybe others will burn out. I know gold is work. hard work..( I had a 4 inch dredge, 7mil wetsuit and everything else so I know requirements). However, I am not as spry as I was. So now it's about portability. What're your thoughts on this aspect?

    • @allansgoldmining
      @allansgoldmining  5 лет назад +1

      That's a good question. In fact, that would make for great video ? Actually, all my equipment fits perfectly in the back of my truck with room to spare. Set up time about 30 minutes. Of course, I'm using the same site, so there are stake poles permanently in place to mount the trommel and sluice. Also have the ground leveled for the tubs. If I were to set up on a new location, would probably take an 60-90 minutes set up, depending on the terrain. And YES ! It's worth every nugget I find. LOL !

    Maybe I missed it on this or the original build video but can you tell me where you are getting the 60, 200 and 400 mesh screens?
    I'm always looking for a good deal and have thought about using landscape weed barrier fabric because the 200 mesh that I have seen was only 12" wide and kind of expensive.
    I know you need at least 36" wide for the dewatering trommel. Thanks

    • @allansgoldmining
      @allansgoldmining  5 лет назад +1

      Thanks for your question. I get those screens on eBay. Just enter Stainless Steel and mesh size inthe search header, and a bunch of auctions will appear. I mention it in my Trommel Build series. Good luck on your trommel build ! Let me know if have more questions.

    • @StratRider
      @StratRider 5 лет назад +1

      @@allansgoldmining Thanks for that - I was just again watching your original video and saw your testing indicated the 60 mesh screen on the dewatering trommel to be the best. Having said that - are you having any issues with the 200 and 400 mesh filters stopping up since you also mention that you work with so much clay? Thanks

    • @allansgoldmining
      @allansgoldmining  5 лет назад +1

      No problem with the clay. It hits the screens and drops to the bottom of the tub. Flow is not disrupted hardly at all. I'm going to experiment adding a small amount of gypsum powder to the water. It's known to bind clay, like a floculent, and cause it to drop even more effectively. My goal is for the trommel to release the gold bound in clay, the have the gyp re-bind it into a particle size great than 60 mesh. This will push the excessive clay out onto tailings and keep water in the tubs. Will make a video if successful. Cheers !

    Hey Allan thanks a million for your vids... ive just about finished building your trommel here in Aus.... Have you tested your tailings? is it worth adding a mini centrifuge at the end of the cycle?

    • @allansgoldmining
      @allansgoldmining  4 года назад +2

      Hi Ben ! Fantastic to here about your trommel build. You might be the first in Aus to operate the design. Just curious, was it challenging to find parts over there ? I don't think a centrifuge will be necessary, provided you have a good set of sluice mats. Post a video when you get it operational.

    Allan, check this Chinese dewatering trommel idea (starts at around 3:14): ruclips.net/video/dUg0j_b6mmI/видео.html Not that it is better or more practical for small scale ops, but just wanted to share as another interesting idea and it seems they produce much drier tails. Also they use flat screens, which might be (arguably) easier to construct. I'd suggest next 2020 version of "Allan's Trommel" to have multiple nested screen cylinders (smaller mesh on outer layers of cause:) to actually produce 3-4 separate material streams (to be processed differently) and automated conveyor with metal detector to screen biggest tailing pieces to drop them into separate pile for further human analysis. And the cherry on the top would be some centrifugal concentrator (like i-con or any other nice stuff from 911metallurgist) with it's output going through sluice (just to double-check at least for 1st couple seasons), along with solar-fed auto-digging or auto-sniffing dredge... ;-) 1am.. I guess time to go to bed.. too much youtube today : )) Thanks again for posting your awesome design!

    • @allansgoldmining
      @allansgoldmining  5 лет назад

      Thanks for sharing. Novel idea to screen tailings. I noticed a small percentage of the material falls back into the tub, which is probably reason for the auger tines. Thanks for the good ideas for future vids !

      Good question Timothy. You'll have experiment a bit to what works for you. The feeder hopper is set at 10 degrees, trommel at 5, grizzley at 30, sluice at 12, and dewater trommel at -2 (negative) degrees. Please check out the Trommel Build series on my channel. Hi Ralph. Good question. Any nugget greater than 1/4" doesn't pass and ends up on the tailings header pile. I always scan this with a Gold Bug VLF detector, which easily senses them. I probably didn't mention it on this video, however, it is mentioned on my original wash plant video. Very rare to find nuggets greater than 1/4" on my property. But can happen.
