The venn diagram between men who go on about how ideal some anime women are, and men who complain about actual women liking anime men is just one sad lonely circle. This game that dropped, Stellar Blade, has a pretty boring (but pretty) main character that shows zero interest in or acknowledgement of her appearance, i.e main selling point of the game
For whatever reason, there seems to be some desire for a woman or fem that's conventionally attractive but oblivious, has no non-mutual interests and isn't too passionate about anything. Not everyone, yeah yeah, but from what I've seen it's real bad out in these streets.

A lot of this definitely stems from insecurities. I think a lot of men resorted to anime as a place/ medium to feel accepted and not like a loser. It’s their escapism per se.
So when women “come in” and start liking these fictional men more than other men, I guess to those men it’s like hell to them.

I'm not in this fandom, I don't go here, but I was flabbergasted when this story came across my FYP because what?
As a kid I loved characters like Ichigo, Inuyasha, Sashomaru, Goku, and so many others (I have a whole grocery list of male characters that captured my heart then and even now). I knew several guys who didn’t like me taking those characters and imagining them as husbandos. Not just with anime though. I was such a big Danny phantom fan as a kid (still love it now) and I simped hard for Danny and Val. Mind you I did all this shipping and simping irrespective of the storyline. The insecure guys would get so but hurt.
Men are too much!! 🙄😂 Like you said, there's no shame in men being in love with anime women but they judge women/femme presenting people for liking the same things? We can't win!
