R.I.P. Randy Paul Romero (December 22, 1957 - August 29, 2019) a Hall of Fame Jockey who won 4,285 races in a 24 year career, including a high number of Grade I stakes. I think Personal Ensingn was the best thouroughbred horse he ever rode. A very brave man! God bless him! My condolences to his family and friend from Venezuela.

Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia´s quotation: "While Randy Romero met with great success as a jockey, the downside of his career was a number of racing-related injuries requiring more than twenty surgeries. He retired in july 1999 having ridden 4,285 winners, notably winning a number of important Grade I events"

Flipping is such a dangerous practice. Healthy foods need to always be available in the jockey room. Fresh fruits and veggies are very high in fiber and low in calories and very filling.

Smh they sacrifice so much just to do what they love why can’t they just raise weight like would you rather have humans die or potentially horses I love horses and would never want to see them harmed in any way but I definitely don’t want to have to pick up a eating disorder just to do something I love ik these horses can take more weight because they have 150lb exercise riders on them in the morning now tell how that can harm a horse in a race when these 130lb 150lb exercise riders are breezing these horses in the morning c’mon now this has to freaking change man !

'i wanted to do it bad enough so he took the easy way' far from the easy way....eating disordered behaviour seems to be previlant in the world of jockeys.i understand all sports have a negative side where you are sacrificing alot in terms of health but to take up eating disordered behaviour it is evident how it continues even after retiring.

That is a fixture called a clinical sink or a hopper, which is *meant* to be used in a hospital or healthcare facility for washing bedpans and really soiled linens before sending them to laundry. It's used also for emptying urine bottles, emesis bowls, and like that.
Now pardon me while I go watch some Puppy Bowl repeats....

Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia´s quotation: "A serious knee injury in December 2000 kept Sellers out of racing for a year and a half. His experience led him to become an outspoken critic of the lack of proper health insurance being provided to jockeys. He returned to the track in 2002, racing until his retirement in late December 2004"

For every male or female jockey around the world, next race can be the last one. And like Hall of Fame jockey Mike Smith said once: "If you don´t win, you´re not paid" Greetings from Venezuela.

Caroni100 well that's BS.....Jockeys get a riding fee....win or lose and if they win they get 10% of the prize money....yanks just love to sensationalised everything...

Untrue Caron, jockeys are always paid to ride each mount. They just make a lot more when they win.

In Ireland and England the jockeys just don’t eat at all but it’s a lot easier then actually eating to throw it back up which will eventually take its tole like with Randy Romero

why don't they form a union like nfl, or mlb? they are a very specialized group that should be taken care of much better than this, 4th place at kentucky derby few hundred bucks? really? go on strike and see what the owners do, I am struggling to get to 200#, how many can do 112# and ride like they do? Go on strike!!!

They are technically self employed with no contracts and no job security. You can't really form a union when there are ten guys behind you to take your job if you say no.
