Mit Aufstellungsbefehl Nr. 40 vom 16.02.1957 wurde die Aufstellung des Wachbataillons beim Bundesministerium der Verteidigung (WachBtl BMVg) verfügt. Vornehmlich mit Wehrpflichtigen versieht es seit 1961 den protokollarischen Hauptauftrag. Alljährlich durchlaufen das Bataillon knapp 1.500 Soldaten. Die Soldaten des Wachbataillons werden zu Protokoll-, Wach- und Sicherungssoldaten ausgebildet. Sie erweisen offiziellen Besuchern des Bundespräsidenten, der Bundeskanzlerin, des Bundesministers der Verteidigung und der Inspekteure, entsprechend ihres protokollarischen Ranges, militärische Ehren. Aufgrund der Gepflogenheit des internationalen Protokolls ist das Tragen von Bärten nicht gestattet. Nach der Grundausbildung erfolgt eine 30-tägige protokollarische Ausbildung. Diese hat als Schwerpunkt den Drill mit dem Karabiner 98k, dem Repräsentationsgewehr des Wachbataillons. Neben einer Vielzahl verschiedener protokollarischer Aufträge stellen die Einsätze beim Bundespräsidenten, der Bundeskanzlerin, des Bundesministers der Verteidigung und der Große Zapfenstreich zu Ehren hochrangiger Persönlichkeiten und öffentliche Auftritte bei Musikfesten immer wieder einen Höhepunkt im militärischen Alltag des Wachbataillons dar. Seit November 2008 steht Herr Oberstleutnant Marcus Göttelmann als 18. Kommandeur seit seiner Aufstellung an der Spitze dieses einzigartigen Verbandes. Zum diesjährigen Berliner Militärmusikfest präsentiert sich das Wachbataillon beim Bundesministerium der Verteidigung mit einer Ehrenformation, gestellt durch die 3. Kompanie aus Siegburg, dem Drilleam, gestellt durch die 7. Kompanie aus Berlin und Zusammenarbeit mit dem Spielmannszug des Stabsmusikkorps

With formation order No. 40 of 16.02.1957 the formation of the Guard Battalion at the Federal Ministry of Defense (WachBtl BMVg) was ordered. Primarily with conscripts, it has provided the main protocol mission since 1961. Every year the battalion through almost 1,500 soldiers. The soldiers of the guard battalion are trained as protocol, guard and security soldiers. They pay military honors to official visitors of the Federal President, the Federal Chancellor, the Federal Minister of Defense and the inspectors, according to their protocolary rank. military honors in accordance with their protocol rank. Due to the custom of international protocol, the wearing of beards is not permitted. Basic training is followed by 30 days of protocol training. This has as its main focus drill with the Carbine 98k, the representative rifle of the Guard Battalion. Since November 2008, Lieutenant Colonel Marcus Göttelmann has been at the helm of this unique unit as its 18th commander since its formation. At this year's Berlin Military Music Festival the Guard Battalion will present itself at the Federal Ministry of Defense with an honorary formation, provided by the 3rd Company from Siegburg, the Drilleam, provided by the 7th Company from Berlin and in cooperation with the marching band of the Staff Music Corps of the Bundeswehr.

The Wachbataillon may be classified as light infantry but the two escorts for the flag barer are wearing the parade uniform of the Prussian 1st Guards Regiment of Foot.
This is because the Wachbattalion is officially continuing the tradition of the 9th Infantry Regiment "Potsdam" of the Reichswehr and the 1st Foot Guards of the Prussian army. The only Bundeswehr unit to continue a tradition before WW2

I am of German and Austrian heritage. My wife is of Prussian heritage. My son is in the US Marine Corp and attached to the ceremonial unit at 8th and I in Washington DC. I would love to see the Bundeswehr perform with the Commandant's Own as well as the Marine Silent Drill Team. I continue to watch and love the history and part of my heritage.

I do not see any Prussian Tradition here except the music tempo.. the lockemarsch was wrong, it was only brief at the end not the start, and the only thing Prussian I saw was the two Colour guards marching in the modern Jaeger traditions, not the old Grenadier traditions. Nice performance regardless but lets not mislabel this. Chile's army has more Prussian tradition than what I just saw.
The Lockmarsch is played at 0:01, what are you on about? Also yes, the German Guards Bataillon is light Infantry because Line Infantry doesen't exist anymore in modern militaries. So they are accurately following prussian tradition, down to the grips and the drill manuals on the rifles. More accurate than Chile, just not playing dress up.

Sin lugar a dudas los uniformes de la época del Kaiser lucían mejor por su aspecto marcial. Lo que no conjuga con el uniforme actual es esa boina espantosa que desmerece el aspecto marcial . Luciría mas militar la gorra que usan las tropas de montaña (feldmutze),o en su defecto la gorra de plato o el casco. Con el Ejército Austríaco sucede lo mismo, reemplazaron el casco por una amorfa boina roja.
¿Ha visto usted ceremonias de las fuezas armadas chilenas luciendo sus uniformes tradiconales? Los videos de las grandes paradas militares de los 19 de septiembre de cada año son buenos para ver uniformes prusianos de la época del Kaiser, quedando reservado el pickelhaube con plumas de ganso solo para el director de la Escuela Militar.

Dies ist die preußisch Formaldienst Ordnung. Welche in Hinsicht dazu verfasst wurde das Gewehr nicht zu beschädigen da auch die aktive kämpfende infanterie diese Handgriff können musste. Das Wachbataillon benutzt das k98k nicht als Handfeuerwaffe also kann es für eine ansehnlicheres präsentieren etwas nachlässiger behandelt werden.

@@markus-pg6me so weit mir bekannt ist war der Formaldienst der Bundeswehr sehr stark an den der Preußen angelehnt. Wie Befehle, Formationen. Unterscheidet sich aber auch in kleineren Sachen wie das schlagen auf den Schaft und das Laute absetzen oder neue komplexere Formationen für das Wachbataillon.
Ich kann ihnen leider nicht mehr dazu sagen da es nicht mein Fachgebiet ist. Ich hoffe es war trotzdem hilfreich ihnen einen schönen Tag
Vor Gründung der Bundeswehr gab es keine Formaldienstordnung (die hießen Exerziervorschrift bzw. Exerzier-Reglement).
Da *der* (nicht _das_ ) Karabiner 98k auch nicht zur Grundausstattung der Bundeswehr 1956 gehörte, gibt es auch keinen Präsentiergriff wie in den vorherigen Exerziervorschriften. In eben jenen ist allerdings bis 1945 aufgeführt, dass beim "Gewehr - ab!" kein Schlagen auf den Kolben erfolgen soll. Das ist tatsächlich eine Eigenheit des Wachbataillons (ja, mit zwei "L", nicht mit zwei "T").

Verstehe nicht warum Preussen Deutschland repräsentiert. Das war nur ein kleiner Teil vom heutigen Deutschland. Bitte mal nachdenken....
Dann hast du keinen Schimmer von deutscher Geschichte, wenn du das nicht nachvollziehen kannst.
Mal davon abgesehen das unser Wachbataillon die Tradition des 1. Garde Regiments (Preußisch) zu Fuß pflegt. Also wenn einer nachdenken sollte dann du bevor du mit Unwissenheit glänzt.
Weil ohne Preußen gibt es kein Deutschland als Staat.
In der Geschichte Deutschlands war Preußen der größte Teil Deutschlands. Welche militärischen Traditionen hätte denn Bayern zb.zu bieten?
Preussen war eine grosse Militärmacht in Europa. Das ist Teil unserer Geschichte. Auf was sollen wir uns denn beziehen?
